Walking over to one of the training dummies Hibiki grabbed onto the ring in the middle of the shuriken embedded on its head then gave it a hard yank, pulling it out of the wood with a swift and forceful tug.

The only question now was which came first for this technique.  Did she throw the shuriken then do the hand signs? Or Do the hand signs and throw the shuriken?  Probably the former in this case.  The latter seemed a bit awkward.  It was kind of hard to do proper hand signs when part of your hand was already occupied by a weapon.  Not to mention most people wouldn’t be able to handle the increased size.

But Hibiki wasn’t most people, Giving the shuriken a light toss into the air she quickly flashed through the signs she needed to cast the jutsu before it could fall back down again.  Tiger, rabbit then dog.    With a burst of smoke the shuriken she had thrown quadrupled in size, to the point it was beginning to resemble more of a fuuma shuriken in stature if not shape.

Effortlessly Hibiki snatched the now larger shuriken out of the air.   A normal gennin would probably need two hands to heft it now but here she was holding it up with one as if it was made out of cardboard instead of cold hard steel.

“Not bad, I bet I could have made it even larger if I’d tried a bit harder.” Hibiki said to herself as she wound her arm up, moving more like she was about to pitch a baseball then tossing a shuriken.  Lacking the Bukijutsu skill her throwing technique was laughably amateurish, but the force behind her throw would be far from anything you would want to laugh at.

Without any future preamble she tossed the enlarged shuriken at full force sending it flying through the air accompanied by a sharp hissing sound.  With a loud thunk it chopped straight into and then through the training dummy splitting it in half like a hot knife cutting through butter before crashing deep into the ground behind where the figure had once been standing.

The bunny accompanying  her gave her an impressed clap of its paws. The results had been better than either of them had expected considering how dull the blades of the shuriken had been.   Not to the point where they would had simply bounced off the training dummy but still. It just went to show the difference a higher level of strength could make.

With a puff of smoke the Shuriken reverted back to its original form.  Unable to take the straight of the excessive force that had applied to it in its weakened rusted state the old weapon crumbled into pieces.   Not unlike all the rubble at the gates that had turned into gravel under Hibiki’s mighty fists.

The bunny cupped its paws offering the weapon a prayer.  Hibiki decided to copy him, thanking the shuriken for offering her that one last final service and allowing her to master another jutsu that was sure to come in handy.   If she could get a model that could withstand her strength she would be able to unleash devastating amounts of damage with a single throw.

The last non-elemental jutsu on the scroll was the piece de resistance.  The illustrious and all too frankly vital to her survival Genjutsu Kai.   A technique to break though and sunder all those pesky illusions.   If Hibiki could hone her perception to notice the Genjutsu before they fully set it she would be able to use the Kai technique to break them preventing any mental damage from being done to her fragile mind.

Since she had so little defences against illusions otherwise, Knowing this one technique and using it well would be quite literally the difference between life and death for her.  Hibiki was practically a bull in a china shop, sometimes the only hope her opponent had to win was to attempt to whammy her.

Forming the tiger seal which was starting to become pretty familiar at this point she pulsed the chakra inside of her body, imagine what it would be like to push out any foreign chakra that had entered her system.

Hibiki now had a counter for Genjutsu being cast on her but it was far from what she could call flawless.  The biggest issue was that she had to notice an illusion had been cast on her in the first place in order to break it.  Hard to do when you didn’t recognize any jutsu you hadn’t personally seen before… Maybe she could find and consult with a genjtusu expert in the village to learn more.

The second issue was that even if she did detect an illusion her low intelligence would make it harder for her to fight off, costing her extra chakra in most cases since most casters who specialized in illusions would have above C-rank level intelligence.   With her low reserves which also had to be spent on other stuff like turning her body to steel, she could only fend off a very limited number of illusions.

Tossing the non-elmental ninjtusu scroll carelessly to the side Hibiki watched in amusement as the bunny hopped over and snatched it out of the air before despoiting the scroll into a small pile.  It looked like while she had been working the adorable little thing had been working hard for her benefit cleaning up the scattered scroll she had left about and putting them into one place so that it would be easier for her to clean up after herself when her training was over.

“Thanks Mr. Bunny, or is it Ms. Bunny?”  Asked Hibiki a little unsure.  She had a hard enough time differentiating between human genders let alone Lagomorpha ones.  She’d read something in a storybook about bunnies laying eggs before.    If this one popped one out on the spot then she’d be able to tell, otherwise she might as well be up a creek without a paddle.

For whatever reason the bunny refused to dignify her answer with a response.  Huh, maybe it was a they/them kind of creature.  Well whatever floated it’s boat, as long as the bunny was happy all was right as far as Hibiki was concerned.   The nouces of pronouns were too complicated for her to bother with much anyway.

“Well then if I can’t call you Mr. or Ms. You need a name little bunny. How about Trix?” She asked namign it after that one famous breakfast cereal,  The the bunny responded by hopping up and down then running excited circles around her. Apparently the name was a big hit with it.

“Could you fetch the last scroll for me?” asked Hibiki  holding out an expectant hand.  Trix obliged hopping over to the pile and picking up the one scroll she hadn’t read yet with its mouth. It really was clever to be able to tell the different scrolls apart like that.    Apparently rabbits had limited color vision so it was more likely it had distinguished them by their scents then anything to do with looks.

“Thank you again Trix.” said Hibiki as it dropped the scroll into her hand. Having an assistant around was proving to be surprisingly helpful.  Maybe she would invite it to come home with her once her training session was complete.

Like the overgrown kid that she was Hibiki had saved the best techniques for last.  She loved moving around so performing some taijutsu after a long ninjutsu session was like savoring her desert after the main course was complete.  No wait… if she kept making food analogies like this she was going to get hungry again.

Moving on she opened the scroll counting the techniques inside.   At first it looked like their where only five (based on open customs) but then the scroll unraveled further to reveal an extra three, all related to the Arhat Fist, the one fighting style that she of all people maybe shouldn’t be using… at least not for the exams anyway since she needed the other side to live, if not necessarily remain in one piece.

Well might as well proceed learning them in order going from top to bottom.  First up was the Counter of the ram.  It should be simple enough for her to pick up considering she had known and been using the parent technique Body of the bear for years.   As Airi might say, this would be a piece of cake.

All she had to do was concentrate a bit of chakra to her forearm or shin and use it to block a physical strike like a punch or kick.  Totally useless against ninjutsu but plenty of use for a brawl which was what Hibiki was best at.  She was already pretty dang tough, especially with her partial steel hide deployed.  This one technique would lower the odds of someone being able to out punch her in the exams significantly.   If it came to a contest of sheer physical blows she would be virtually unrivaled.

Next up was the Spring Chant fighting style.  This one looked promising to Hiibki.  If she understood what the words on the page were saying correctly, using it maximized the speed of her hands.  The one purely physical trait she had that was lagging slightly behind the others was her coordination.

Her coordination also dropped when she went to use Body flicker without hand seals. That drop in punching speed had cost her from landing a potential punch on Nao when she’d first rushed him.  A way to offset and counter that drop could be very very useful indeed.   Being able to flicker without warning and then punch with her usual speed would be enough to catch most anybody at the exams by surprise, at least the first time anyhow before everyone became aware she could do that.

Moving into the starting poss of the Spring Chant, her body flowed through the kata as she began rapidly throwing punches out, one after another.   “Ora, Ora, Ora” she screeched as her fists flew with fury.

By the sage was that satisfying.  The other exam takers where lucky she didn’t have the taijutsu skill yet and couldn’t access the full extent of this technique.  As it stood it only increased her Corrdination by a single plus rather than a full tier as well as lowering her strength by a minus.  In Effect it was actually making her blows less deadly in exchange for her being able to throw them a bit faster.

The idea of her throwing around punches at full strength and the full speed up effect was a terrifying one to contemplate.  Especially as it wouldn’t be long before her coordination reached the same level as her other physical stats.   If she somehow managed to advance her bloodline to the second stage and or learned the Impervious Ex-skeleton technique she would become an absolute juggernaut if she took to to field.

Forget the other exam goers for a second.  There was a chance that once she got her coordination up to be that she could flat out level some Jounin.  At least on paper.  Well maybe that was a bit of an exaggeration.  The X-rank ones like Ren and Zenku were way too far above her to scratch, even the more regular ones like Hanabi and Tori would be fine as long as they avoided taking a direct punch.

It was really only with the Twins that Hibiki stood a decent shot of outclassing even as she was just now.… well as long as you excluded their Jinchuuriki status which she did not know about. Did the fact Hibiki might still have a small shot even if they transformed into their V2 state say much about how strong she was or was it an indictment of the twins that even a measly C-class Gennin had the potential to knock them on their ass?

Of course that was merely just going by the raw stats on paper.  Considering the Twins could use the magnet release they would probably give Hibiki a lot more trouble then she would reckon unless she somehow managed to get the drop on them.

On the same token the other exam takers were still extremely tough opponents for Hibiki.  Even if she had a slight edge on some of them with raw stats all of them had potential to outclass her in one area or another.   What was the saying about a strong enough lever being able to move the world?  Just like she could knock someone that was stronger then her out by getting the drop on them, someone weaker could do the same to her.  She would have to be vigilant if she wished to pass.

Vigilance started with learning as many jutsu as she could, even ones that otherwise seemed fairly pointless like the three D-rank jutsu in the rising series.  Hibiki for the life of her couldn’t understand the utility of these weak punches and kicks that cost more energy than delivering a normal punch or kick only to get less results.

Take the rising side kick for example.  It was just launching your leg from a standstill position up into the air for a bit higher then she was tall.   And it was only D-rank power without the Taijutsu skill.  Big freaking deal.   It would be like being struck by a regular teenager in comparison to her normal b-rank force….. Wait a minute maybe this jutsu would be good for something after all since it was typically hard for her to hold back.

Hibiki chuckled, finding it very funny how punching down instead of up could actually have a use for her.

And so it went for the Rising Scissor Kick as well.  Just another much needed way to hold back when lashing her feet out at someone.  This time rather than hitting them with her foot on the way up into the air it was more about hitting them with her foot on the way down.  It was so simple that it was almost banel.     At only D-rank power it would be perfect for knocking someone around without having to risk killing them.

Considering it was only D-rank she had to wonder if it would be enough to actually knock an opponent out.   That seemed unlikely unless she was to rough them up a bit at first with something a bit stronger.   But how much would she need to wear them down first before something like this could be used as the finishing blow?  By the sage was it frustrating to have to think about all this kind of garbage.   If only she could hit someone at her full unfettered force, not having to hold back at all and still avoid killing them somehow.

Sadly such a thing would be akin to magic.  Maybe she could try asking her friend Toru again if he could whip something up for her. He had a mind like a wizard so if anybody could figure magic out it would be him. Perhaps some kind of glove that softened her blows at the last second so that they would just knock anybody she punched out and nothing more.

At this point she was on the last Rising jutsu set, The Rising Defense Kick and she was getting well and truly sick of this family of techniques.  This one seemed the most useless of them all. Able to take a D-rank attack at best and redirect it elsewhere and only if it was solid in nature to boot.   Oh come on now, She was tough enough that she could eat D-rank attacks for breakfast with little to no harm being done to her.  Was learning this kick really necessary?

Tix nodded its head seeming to read her mind and agreeing that it was in fact necessary.  Who’s side was this rabbit on anyway.  With a sigh Hibiki practiced blocking imaginary strikes with the sole of her feet for a few minutes burning the movements of the technique into her body until she could unless it was practically instinct.

Thank the sage that the series of three techniques was done and over with.  Now she could move on to learning the much more useful and much more potentially dangerous for everyone involved including herself.   She was already so powerful that she could barely control her own strength at times.

What good was being able to hit even harder going to do? Without a higher level of impervious armor to absorb the impact she was going to feel the impact.   Oh sure on it's own it might not be enough to break her bones or anything but bruises could still slow her down and create extra weak points for an enemy to target.

Still what if she came up against someone who was like herself. Someone that could punch in the same weight class.   Being able to increase her own strength might give her an edge.   There was also the possibility she could run into someone that for all her strength she wouldn’t be able to scratch.    Having the Arhat fist could make the difference between if she could break through their defenses.  If she couldn’t she might have no choice but to run away or surrender.

Taking the beginners stance which was much more aggressive than her usual one Hibiki made to punch at the air. Maybe it was just her imagination but her punch did feel slightly stronger than normal.

Ok stronger punch acquired, that was great.  Shame it came with the cost of lowering her speed.   Considering she needed to be fast to close in to punch in the first place it was going to be harder to land a hit then usual when fighting using this style, at least until she picked up the taijutsu skill.

It was always some trade off or another.  Say she did learn Taijutsu and could use Arhat to its full potential without the speed draw back. That meant it would take longer before she could learn more of her clan’s fighting style which was to be the linchpin of her build going forward.

Then should she prioritize learning Ninjtsu first to gain that linchpin or Taijutsu.  There was no real right or wrong answer with either option.  Even if she had Ninjtsu she’d need to find a master to teach her the clan’s ways.  She could think of one person who might help her… Perhaps for a price.

Considering how rich he was, could she even afford his lessons?   Hard to say when she wasn’t sure how much money she had remaining after shopping with Kiyoshi.  Math had never been her strong suit.   There was also something else she might need money for in the future.  Man no wonder people always seemed so desperate to get ahold of the stuff. She could never seem to get enough of it for what she truly needed.

On the other hand Taijutsu spoke for itself.  She would be able to utlize not just the Arhat fist and the Spring Chant to their full potential but she would finally be able to learn the Strong fist and all its accompanying moves, not to mention maybe some fighting styles from her home land.

If anything it seemed like the almost obvious choice, if it wasn’t for the considerably larger gap between B class and A class…. And the even larger one between A and S.  It might be a while before she ranked up again, especially if she wanted to remain a participant in the chunnn exams so she had to choose carefully.

One down, two jutsu to go.  Next up was the rising knee which was as straightforward as the name on the tin.  All she had to do was literally drive her knee up into an opponent's abdomen to deliver a devastating blow.  How many Gennin could truly say that they could strike with Potential A-rank force?   Heck it would have even been A++ if she’d been a taijutsu master.

Was there such a thing as excessive force for a ninja?  If there was Hibiki was starting to become the very picture of it in the dictionary.  Sage helped everyone if she ever ascended to her full X-class strength potential.   The fact she could maybe reach those heights without using sage mode or some other enhanced state would have been terrifying if people were more aware that was the direction she was currently heading in.

But sometimes it was the journey that mattered more than the destination.  Hibiki was enjoying herself so much right now hanging out with the other gennin and preparing for the exams that she was in no rush to reach endgame level potential.  The ability to punch out bijuu with her fists would remain a far off dream for a good while yet….  Assuming she lived that long.  You never knew what could happen tomorrow in the ninja world.

Sometimes it was better to cherish what you have while it lasts than covet things you didn’t. Sure becoming a world shaker would be nice, but Hiibki just wanted to be a normal person, with a normal life and perhaps if she was truly blessed she would find a normal love.
