What was normal anyway. Hibiki wasn’t sure. The answer could depend on who you asked. For some that was riches and fame and for others being part of a stable loving family. Hibiki for her leaned towards the latter. Money was nice and all for buying supplies now that she knew it wasn’t some kind of weird cabbage but there was far more to life than acquiring vast sums of it.

As long as she had enough to pay for her bloodline lessons and for the one other possible thing she was pretty good. Really after that she only needed enough to get by comfortably which wasn’t alot living in a place like Konoha.

As for fame, she’d leave that to people like her friend Toru. While Hibiki felt a burning need to be useful to other people in order to validate her existence she had no need for the excess amount of attention that having a limelight shine on her would bring.

Hibiki didn’t want statues of herself put up in parks or portraits hung in important buildings. No, what she desired was something much closer to home. Acknowledgement from her friends and family. Just hearing her big sis praise her would be more than enough to bring a smile to her face. She had a lot of work to do to repay Airi for saving her.

Ok it was time for the last jutsu. No seriously this time. She was out of ones she could learn. Well ok that wasn’t entirely true. She still had a couple C-rank Jutsu she could get under her belt but it felt kind of wrong to learn those on her own, not when she could use learning as an excuse to hang out with her fellow doton buddies Natsuki and Karoi.

It was funny, not long ago she would have struggled with learning ANY C-rank jutsu on her own and here she was performing an entire plethora of them. All of the hard work and dedication she had been putting in had resulting in a stellar amount of growth in such a short time. It was hard to believe she couldn’t cast that one earth wall practically just yesterday.

The last jutsu was once again as simple as the name implied. All performing the Shoulder Charge technique meant was throwing your weight behind a shoulder thrust, aiming to knock an opponent off their feet…. And perhaps off into the next world even if you were strong enough.

It would boost your strength for the charge by two pluses from standstill. More if you had a three meters start to build up some steam.. Well assuming you were running in a straight line anyhow. It was enough to turn someone that had more average strength into a super star football linebacker.

As for Hibiki…. Well if she used it, especially in her steel form she would turn into a human bulldozer or perhaps wrecking ball, trampling almost anything in her path that was unlucky enough to get out of the way in time short of a bijuu or boss summon.

Needing only a straight line to use to it’s full potential. Not a problem since Hibiki liked to stake the shortest fastest route anyhow. Besides she’d need to go in a straight line anyhow if she was to combine it with body flicker for maximum mayhem. She wouldn’t quite be an unstoppable juggernaut yet… but try telling that to anyone she used it against in the exams and I’m sure they would mostly disagree.

It had been a long night so far, the hours creeping into the twilight. Hibiki was dripping with sweat and panting with exhaustion after all the effort and chakra she had expended. One thing was for sure. She was going to need a good shower before she went to bed. That and she was likely to sleep in the next morning….

Perhaps the matron of the cafeteria would be worried about her. It was rare for Hibiki to speak breakfast. At least when she wasn’t out on a multiday long mission, the kind that were rare for gennin like her to get.

She had somehow managed to learn all the jutsu she had wanted in this one session. Her minimal goal obtained just under the wire. Still she wanted to push herself, to test the limits of her endurance and then go beyond. Trix the bunney was cheering for her. Shouldn’t she at least try just that little bit longer?

Taking a fighting stance she began to spar against an invisible opponent, one that she could only see in her mind, her imagination. It was someone she had never fought before, but had traits from all of her friends….

It had Nao’s speed and ability to tamper with Chakra. Toru’s cleverness and ruggedness. Natuski’s sheer level of technical prowess. Sara’s sharpshooting with a bow and Karoi’s toughness. Heck it even had Innocences sheer belligerence.

Individually any one of them was tought. Merged together they seemed like an impossible foe. But hey Hibiki had cleared so called impossible hurdles before. She knew that there where more and that she could make it. But who was to blame if it wasn’t the best that she could achieve?

Making the first move the Amagram lunged at her with an open palm, moving with speed that Hibiki could just barely perceive. Narrowly she managed to slip her head to the side at the last second but even then she could feel its fingertips brush harmlessly through her hair. So close, he had almost tagged her, and one tag would be enough to make her begin to bleed what little charka she had remaining.

What could she do in response? Should she armor up… If she stopped to consider how limited her supply of stamina remaining it didn’t seem like a good choice, especially since the Hyuga could slip straight past the steel as if it wasn’t even there.

What could she do to move that just a little bit faster and counter him. So many of her techniques like body of the bear or counter of the ram revolved around enhancing her toughness but those would all do little here. It was wearing the stone armor Kaori had learned so she couldn’t use the Spring chant since weakening her strength would render her unable to tear through its defenses.

She would need her strength, especially since it wasn’t somebody that she could beat in one blow, but at the same time she couldn’t afford to lose anymore speed since it was already faster then her and she was having a hard time keeping up. Only just dodging its attacks by the narrowest of margins.

It was quite the conundrum she had found herself in. Any one choice she made would either open herself up to taking damage, or render herself unable to deal any. Of all the things she could have dreamed up, why had she gone with something that seemed so impossible?

Was this just some sort of sick self flagellation? Heck no because in her heart of hearts Hibiki did not truely believe in the impossible. No matter how dire a situation might seem their was always some method, some way to turn the tide.

What was the answer then? She could hit him but only if she had some method to trip him up or slow him down. For one moment that rock spikeihs type jutsu that Natuski had shown her flashed across the mind, but the time it would take her to stoop down and touch the ground would have it rushing in at her before she could reach the surface with her fingertips.

Simply put, she couldn’t win this battle on her own. The amargram was simply too strong, too fast for her to overcome the way she was now. Maybe once she reached further along on her potential that would be another story, but that was a battle for a different day, a different her.

If she reverted to her past self, the one that acted only on her programming without emotions coming into the picture she could win but it would come at a heavy cost. It would strike her as she went to strike it, causing her to bleed out charka with no way to stop the bleeding until she sank into the abyss that was death.

The thing was…. Now that she had become a part of Konohagakure Hibiki was never truly alone anymore. Not the way she had been back as a test subject in Hades. She didn’t NEED to revert anymore. Not when she had her friends, and her family at her side.

From out of nowhere a single chain shot out of the darkness intangeling itself around the anagram's lunging arm, stopping it in it’s tracks. Without looking Hibiki smiled knowing that as always the ever reliable Airi, her big sister had come to her aid giving her the opportunity she needed to clinch the win.

Like a bull in a china shop Hibiki combined the Shoulder charge she had just learned with the body flicker, charging forward like a comet to crash straight into the amergram head one, cracking it armor with one mighty blow and sending it flying with enough that it’s body slid and skipped, rolling acrossing the ground for several painful looking meters before finally coming to a stop.

With victory over her imagination foe ensured Hibiki held up her fist in victory. She could see Trix in the background, clapping its paws in a show of appreciation for the show she had put on for it. With the match now over Hibiki collapsed to the ground like a puppet with its strings cut. She had wasted the last of her energy on that match, and didn’t have enough remaining to stay conscious for long let alone make it home.

With a sigh she glanced at Trix. Without the bunnies' support she never would have made it this far. She had come a lot further and a lot faster than she had ever intended or expected. The time for burning herself out chasing after points was over… it was time to switch over to exam mode… time to spend with her friends instead of herself.

With the last of her energy Hibiki gently gave the bunny one final pat on the head, before her eyes slipped close and she fell into a deep, deep slumber.

With a grown Hibiki slowly came to her senses. As her eyes fluttered open there was a bright light shining directly on her. One that made her flinch for a second as her eyes adjusted to the glare of the morning sun.

She should have been cold from sleeping outside on the grass, but someone… most likely Trix had left a blanket on her to keep her warm. With a grin Hibiki glanaced around hoping to spot the bunny again so she could thank him but he had vanished into the wild along with the isolation seals, almost like his presence had been nothing more than part of a dream.

“Thank you Trix.” She whispered in gratitude. She had done everything she possibly could to earn as many rolls as she could. The rest would now come to the bunny and to luck, may fortune be in her favor. Perhaps one day if she was lucky she might even see him again.
