Kotsubo hadn't wasted anytime on the scrolls he received from the Mizukage, he went to a secret spot outside Kirigakure only known to the Hoshigaki, a cave under a well-hidden rock with most of it filled with water but this can easily be averted by simply using the walking technique, the problem is however the sharks that frequent the cave. They're usually fed and trained by either Kotsubo himself, or by his father, they make sure that they're not followed when doing this however and for secret operations regarding the Hoshigaki himself or for serious clan meetings despite it just being the two of them, they use this spot.
Kotsubo had spent a good amount of time sitting down, going through each scroll and looking at the ones that he can actually learn, considering time was of the essence when it came to holding such sensitive scrolls, he wouldn't take too much of his sweet time just looking at words and decided to speed up on the ones that he can read and learn. He'd only use the ones that weren't so damaging however, such as the Great Waterfall technique. The last thing Kirigakure needs on it's own hands is a large tsunami of some kind right outside it's home, he would only learn the steps and handseals for it but wouldn't activate it. All the other techniques seemed pretty solid to learn.
He would take the first step in learning Silent Killing, since that seemed to be the easiest out of all the ones that he could currently learn. All though there weren't any mist or smoke currently in the cave, he'd practice it anyway as the purpose of the technique is to quieten down ones movement and he'd focus on that aspect alone. After activating the technique, he started to silently move around the cave, trying to listen in on his own footsteps which failed, meaning he had managed to master Silent Killing on his first try.
The other techniques he had to learn weren't so easy however, as he moved onto the Water-Heavens Convergence technique. If it's really like Konami described, this is indeed quite a dangerous technique to have. He even placed the scrolls in a more dry part of the cave for the purpose of using this technique, he used the technique at first and controlled very small quantities of water but this didn't last very long. It seemed to be a jutsu that required multiple tries until one properly got used to it. He activated the jutsu again and again, trying different motions with his hands in order to better control the water and he had finally started to get a solid amount of water under his control.
He believed that would do for the technique as he didn't want to risk large-scale practices with such a deadly technique, for the next one is the Waterfall technique and he would only learn the words carefully and the handseals behind it but that's it, as previously stated earlier it'd be dangerous to use such a technique so close to the village, or in such a small cave. He'd experiment the technique later on but it'd be a fair distance away from Kirigakure, as it'd be ironic to destroy the very village that he's trying to protect. He doubt the jutsu really had that much firepower, but he wasn't eager enough to test it for the aftermath.
And finally came the Water Mirror technique, despite being easier to read and the handseals not being too difficult to learn, this seemed to be far more difficult to get under his control. He had launched out the Mirror several times from the water of the cave, launching a Water Shark Bullet at the mirror's reflection everytime but every jutsu that came out of the mirror was relatively weak, which resulted in Kotsubo repeating this technique over and over again in order for his mastery over the mirror to get stronger, until the Shark Bullet was perfectly replicated. When it finally was, he'd assume that he got a good grip on the technique as it is, as once more, he didn't want to try more destructive techniques in such a small cave.
Once this training had been done, he'd pick up the scrolls and exited the cave, making his way back to Konami's office in order to return them. He couldn't understand Kirisame sadly as that technique seemed to be out of his range to currently learn, but he is interested for learning from it properly next time.
