Tending the Field:

Back to the fields they went. Instead of the field they went to a few days ago, today they were headed towards one that already had been worked ages ago and required them to water the crops. Much like every day that had passed taking a mission with Katsumi had Shin questioning where were the people who were generally responsible for the agriculture of Iwagakure no Sato. “Are we sure Iwa even had people to work the lands? I feel like everything under the sun is something we need to do eventually. It just feels like… we could be doing something a bit more productive.” Whether Katsumi was with him or not mattered little to Shin when he spoke, his question being more rhetorical, though he fully expected an answer from Katsumi if he was present.

The fact the Shin himself did not have access to the element of suiton for his techniques and with the assumption that Katsumi probably did not either – Shin never asked – today would be a long day at the fields much like their first trip here as well, especially with the lack of someone who could use a jutsu to make the process of watering the crops much faster than doing it through a more laborious process. Shin’s eyes already having found the tool shed when they initially began their trek here, began to make his way towards it; hoping there were a few watering cans at the very least.

“I highly doubt it’s my fault that we’re getting stuck with these missions. Pretty sure this all your doing and your wish to be a farmer rather than a shinobi.” There was a pause on Shin’s end as he would look over at Katsumi. “I won’t judge you if you end up changing your name to Farmer Kyūzō or something.” Turning his head back to the amount of land that remained for them to water, Shin would temporarily lower the pail back to the ground to wipe the sweat off his brow. He would flex his shoulders just so they wouldn’t get locked up and release a sigh. The first time they had worked the fields, he hated it. The second time they worked the fields, aka today, Shin still hated it. Hate… was a strong word, but in the moment that was simply how Shin would describe his attitude towards the mission. If he had the choice of working the fields or doing any other mission with Katsumi, it would be the latter option, simply due to his feelings towards the current mission and the one prior. “Hopefully with the crops they harvest… if they don’t get us to harvest them… maybe then they’d be able to pay some farmers to actually farm.” His statement was a general addition and not directed at Katsumi, though he figured he would agree with Shin’s statement. Picking up the watering can, Shin would continue the work on the field for the remainder of their remaining day. The hours would tick by slowly for Shin, but the field would eventually entirely get watered – a task that took far too long than Shin had wished to be here for.
