-I understand why people wear these things anywhere but their forehead- Haruka's thoughts remained stuck on the steel-plated headband emblazed with the markings of Kirigakure. As a new graduate of the Academy today was the first day Haruka ever fastened it to himself...and within ten minutes his forehead was uncomfortably sweaty. He had tried it on other locations, around his neck, fastened to his bicep, as a belt, etc. However for one reason or another, even though he didn't like the feeling of the headband around his head, he liked it far less everywhere else. It fit his body too well, and that did not fly for the young ninja. Haruka had never worn clothes that actually fit him a day in his life, much preferring very loose clothing. It always looked he wore clothes that were bought for a man whose potential size was sorely overestimated. He wasn't small but he wasn't built, and such loose, flowing clothes made him look even thinner.
Haruka sighed heavily and adjusted the headband one last time before shoving his hands back in his pockets and continuing down the road toward Kirigakure's marketplace. Graduating the Academy was far less exciting than he thought it'd be. The following days have been nothing but registrations and preparations. Logistics. Why did it always seem like every ninja he watched train have an infinite supply of weapons? Here he was heading to a shop, to spend almost all of his meager savings on one single kunai. -I should name it something....how about...Poor Man's Gold?- That thought brought him a slight chuckle. Such a childish thought. Names were reserved for only weapons of legend, not one single mass-produced kunai bought from a store.
Not long after he casually strolled into the weapons shop and was greeted by a fake smile. Being from a prestigious clan and being in the latest crop of Academy graduates gave him a recognizable face, he guessed. "Welcome, welcome! That headband looks great on you!" the merchant shouted in a chipper tone. Haruka stared back blankly. It didn't take a genjutsu master to realize this person was trying to make a sale.
".....I'm here for-" Haruka began.
"Ahhh yes, I know what you're here for! I have something just for you" the merchant interrupted a slack jawed Haruka. With speed not even the legendary Sage of Six Paths could muster and carrying capacity of a giant, the merchant raced around their shop and slammed a myriad of different tools on the table. Kunai, shuriken, explosive tags, katanas, steel wire, and multitude of things that Haruka didn't even recognize lay before him.
"No need to say it. Only the finest for a ninja from the FAMED Yuki clan! Allow me to tell you about these...." the merchant's chipper tone no longer reached Haruka' ears. His voice drowned out into nothing. Haruka watched the man's mouth move with narrowed eyes and a blank expression. The sales pitch seemed endless. Haruka wondered if that's where the rest of his life would be spent. He cleared his throat.
"I'm here for....one of these" he said with a monotone voice, grabbing a single kunai from the pile and holding it by the ring in front of the merchants face. All at once, the man's demeanor completely changed. His look of disdain was almost audible. Without another word he simply held out his hand.
Haruka handed the merchant 20,000 ryo, and with a shrug turned to leave the weapon store and head to the training ground. With the knowledge that this was the first of their many, many future interactions, Haruka wondered if he should take that kunai and jam it into his skull instead.
