Character Name: Yuki Haruka
Character Age: 19
Character Sex: Male
Character Appearance:
Character Personality:
Many who don't know Haruka on a more intimate level would describe his personality as, "one-dimensional". His emotional expression to situations on an outward level is almost always cynical and/or aloof. Those who are especially kind would describe him as witty and carefree. He presents a face that he isn't terribly affected by anything around him from waking up late to the death of a loved one, and you would think that he gets paid for every time he shrugs. He always seems rather bored and is often found taking part in, or being the catalyst of, mischief. Many would also say that he doesn't hold his own life in very high regard.
All that being said, this isn't actually who Haruka is. These are all learned traits that jail him behind emotional walls. He feels very deeply, and fear of being close with anyone prevents him from expressing it. Often times Haruka's actions betray his attitude. If a complete stranger near him needs help, sure he might make it seem like an annoyance or that "he was there already so why not", but without fail he'll help that person with no regard for his personal safety. He pays attention to others' wants and needs, and if he can make someone's day a little bit better or easier without getting attention, he will.
If you manage to get close to Haruka, and you're alone with him, he's almost an entirely different person. He's pensive and thoughtful, caring and considerate. He'll give a glimpse into his mind to show that inside, he genuinely regrets the persona he hides behind and simply isn't able to be any other way.
Character History: (I'm gonna flesh out most of this in flashback posts if that's alright)
As a child Haruka never seemed cut out for the life of a ninja. Not that he wasn't talented, or that he was too timid, but that he didn't have the heart for it. He didn't have a mean streak in him and wasn't competitive. He lacked motivation and abhorred violence. As one can imagine this didn't sit right with most of his clan, a clan of warriors. Could they allow such a powerful Kekkei Genkai into the hands of someone who would likely die on his first real mission and expose it's secrets to a rival village? Should they waste the time on his training and a spot in the Academy when both things would be better suited for anyone else?
Fortunately for the clan, and unfortunately for Haruka, these questions would never have to be answered. Life became terribly cruel to Haruka. And as a powerless child he could do nothing to stop it. Tragedy after tragedy in rapid succession began to take large chunks out of a fun-loving and caring kid's fortitude. He was still growing; physically, mentally, and emotionally. He couldn't make heads or tails about why the only people who cared and appreciated him for being a gentle light in a violent world were being torn away one by one. He began to believe in gods just so he had something to resent. Existing in this misery bled from days, to months, to years. He became a teenager. Sure, the losses may have stopped when he had nothing left he held dear, but the world was a perpetual shade of gray. He drew breath but wasn't alive. Tears had long since dried up. He couldn't raise his eyes from the ground. He didn't know the sound of his own voice. He couldn't bring himself to take part in any aspect of life. He didn't attend the Academy and didn't associate with any of his peers or his clan.
In this pit is where Haruka the child officially died. While wandering absent-mindedly outside of the village Haruka was kidnapped by a group of bandits. Blessings can come in many forms and are not always apparent right away. To this day, Haruka can't remember exactly what happened to him for the two months he was captive. He doesn't remember who rescued him (I'm totally open to discuss if someone wants to be this person). All he has are scars up and down his body and a foggy recollection of screaming. A searing pain fills his head when he tries to recall the past and he blacks out without fail. But being that close to death sparked something in him. A fire to live. A furnace that melted away everything he was and reformed him into the person he is today. All things considered, Haruka could have come back from this experience a broken man; a maniac. Instead, it simply shaded the person he used to be with different colors. Strange colors. Mismatched colors. But even colors that don't make sense are better than none at all.
Haruka looks back on the person he was as a kid with disdain. He blames himself and how he was for all of the terrible things that happened to him. He joined the Academy where he excelled and fully devoted himself to the life of a ninja. Much to the approval of his clan he showed surprising aptitude with ice release, taking to the kekkei gekai like a fish to water. Weaving hand signs seemed to be easier for him than many others, and he showed aptitude for one-handed seals. He wasn't the strongest but was nimble and light on his feet. Accurate with shuriken and kunai. However, this devotion to the shinobi way is Haruka running from himself. Pushing down anything that might really matter to him in an effort to not be hurt by loss ever again. If you asked him, Haruka would not be able to tell you what he wants in life. What's left for him? What kind of difference does he want to make? Does it even matter? Haruka doesn't know where to begin and it haunts him like the ghosts of his childhood.
