    Mission:

Many different kinds of missions with great risks of bodily harm or with small chances of death are given to genin. Such a thing is part of the ninja way, but it is a rare thing indeed for a ninja to get put on a mission where there risk of death is monumentally higher than their odds of survival. Nearly every upstart genin that has been assigned by accident or design one of those missions has perished. Luckily Nakaba wasn't on one of those missions. The genin looked over the valley of dirt and rock expanding for nearly a kilometer as fake, distant stars illuminated the sky up until the point where they dipped into the horizon. Their eerie glow sent cool light down to the warm earth beneath Nakaba's boots.

Hundreds of silvery, spirit flames danced in mockery of life a dozen or so meters away from any moving thing as if they were avoiding a snake or mouse. Their ephemeral glow caused the world to be cast in monochromatic light as if they were sapping life and color from this place. The stark moon loomed overhead, like a predator in the branches waiting to snatch up any who dared move too loudly on the ground beneath. The stars, the will'o'wisps, and the moon, between them world was illuminated with the soft glow of a hospital room, but there was a grave silence abound. The kind that made your leg restless or your vision search in empty corners.

Nakaba arrived, painted gray in this place with the understanding that any of the ninja who had come here would have: There is an impostor that must be defeated in order for my quarry to be revealed. On each of the genin's hips dangled three swords. For those who were counting that's four or five too many. He wore a once-orange, now gray, prison themed jumpsuit that had a jack'o'lantern motif eyes and mouths visible on both sides. The puppeteer would be entering today without the puppet given to him by the Tsuchikage herself. Seemingly another figure stood dozens of meters away almost seeming to appear in the genin's sights. Its shadowy visage reminding him of the citizen at the gates he'd seen the last time he was in Iwa.

What Shadows Dawn Cannot Dispel Empty Re: What Shadows Dawn Cannot Dispel

Post by Tadara Tue Oct 24, 2023 12:22 am

Tadara had located this tag already and had chosen to return to it in the hidden hours of the night. He did not care for being so exposed in the open. Night offered escape and stealth options the day time simply did not. His work had been completed on the lower floors for now and night had settled. The young doctor had paused to eat a nutrition bar and restock his bodies balance of required supplies for optimal health. He stood there out in the open walkway outside the castle walls. A wide path that walked around the width of this level of the castle surrounding the entire floating base. He had measured it at a glance as twenty meters wide. As if crowds were meant to walk here. Its structure design seemed to suggest large open spaces meant for larger crowds. Did they intend to populate this location with an army? These questions rattled through his mind as he placed calculations and attempted to discover a hint to the source of the craftsman. Neither Okane or Kara were this style. They would have marked it somehow too. With some monument to themselves. This looked more like it was designed as a mobile base.

Removing these tags came with challenges. Illusions that attacked you more often than not. Leaving little time to examine them while under a sense of urgency. He had already run an experiment correlating guardian respawn times with the existence of the tag. However this one was unguarded as far as he could tell. He had detected no traps and what was more no illusions. He would stand at the bottom of the pillar eating his nutrient bar. His honey colored eyes staring up at the seal With his red hair laying lazily about his face. His red suit once again looked more casual business or a work outfit than any sort of style. An academy outfit maybe for a private school. The only thing modified about it was the dress boots had been installed with new tread for grip. His outfit looked rigid but it would do little to stop his attack style. However it would appear there were no weapons on his person. Still he had sent two bee's to patrol the length of this side of the walkway. He wanted to keep his attention up. For now it appeared a swords man he had noted the face of before. Six swords likely meant he could use all of them at once.

However this appeared to be a genin he knew records of. A recently released rebel prisoner now serving with his skills at the behest of Iwagakure. Eyes would shift to look at him more in depth as he took another bite of his bar. Chewing it as he contemplated the coincidence. The boy wouldn't know it but Tadara had been partially responsible for the downfall of Suna. Coordinating efforts to wipe out anyone considered elderly to an incredibly effective extent. He had been known as the Owl and wore a plague doctor mask at the time. Still he had little use for a thug at the moment. Instead he felt a slight perturb at being interrupted by the approach. He would dissuade this one from interacting with these tags. He would need them for further experiments. So once the young genin approached close enough Tadara would turn to face him fully. His eyes reflecting no emotion. Just a dull emptiness.

"Nakaba Tōru, You are not needed here. These tags are my studies at the moment. I will not argue this point. If you remain you must consider a flight or fight response and dedicate yourself to one or the other. So long as you do not endanger my studies I will not engage you."

What Shadows Dawn Cannot Dispel Empty Re: What Shadows Dawn Cannot Dispel

Post by Nakaba Thu Oct 26, 2023 12:28 am

Nakaba Tōru The name came out of his mouth so freely obviously there was more to this man than met the eye. Too many options flooded into Nakaba's head and none of them got processed. The genin wanted to take a moment to process, but when it came down to it this environment was too chaotic for his gut to let him settle. Fight or Flight. He could feel himself getting fired up as he looked at the man in front of him, not to determine if it was a bluff or not, but instead he was laying out the path he was going to take.

"I wouldn't want to regret my choices." Nakaba's senses would flare awake, noting already that man had chakra reserves far superior to that of a civilian. Also there were two other chakra sources near him, but they had relatively low chakra reserves, so they weren't his top priority. Spring Chant supplemented his fighting style since being Unrelenting and Unpredictable was essential to accomplishing anything. He'd begin. Grabbing his Nameless Blade and Listless Night (both are regular C-Rank katana), Nakaba Sprinted as he finished his. With a burst of speed that Nakaba thought to be too fast to follow with the naked eye he would close the distance zig-zagging towards Tadara. Moving 5 meters forwards and 5 meters to his left, Nakaba would launch (at a whopping D++ speed) the Nameless Blade first at Tadara's neck then Listless Night at a higher angle so as to land a point between Tadara and the edge, both spinning in the air towards Tadara like too large kunai as they were discarded.

With mostly maintained momentum Nakaba would zag 5 meters forward and to the right 5 meters, dashing at Tadara in a straight line once again. Rapidly closing the gap of the remaining 20 or 30 meters, Nakaba would draw Rosebud and Evening Grazer as he ran towards Tadara and attempted to zig-zag through the genin-strength figures on the walkway with them. Halting just in front of Tadara, Nakaba would be in a fencing pose preparing to strike and dashing at him again if it looked like he'd moved. Spring Chant was a taijutsu style that excelled in the kind of free-form thought that Nakaba used.

Nakaba didn't swing the blades though. He would instead be going for the ninja's ribs with a punch shifting his weight so that his back hand's momentum would shift his body weight into a Spinning Punch. The punch would land before the katanas even had a chance to arrive. There was a slight golden glow to Nakaba's eyes if he got this far as he'd be feeling his momentum building up. The sweat already forming on his strained body was steaming in the cool night air. If the punch hit Nakaba wouldn't hesitate, shifting his weight again following up with an open-palmed Spinning Right Hook to Tadara's chest, dropping his sword.

What Shadows Dawn Cannot Dispel Empty Re: What Shadows Dawn Cannot Dispel

Post by Tadara Thu Oct 26, 2023 1:37 pm

Tadara would quietly watch as the young man seemed to not wish to lose out on some opportunity with these tags. It was a pity that someone would choose to fight him. So readily attacking and speaking of not wishing to regret his choices. It was an interesting flawed method of thought. Still those words meant they would in fact have to fight over this prize. Normally he would have accepted having a guard or something along those lines. However this one felt provoked by his words. Even as he drew two of his blades Tadara would begin forming hand seals. His dull eyes never leaving his would be aggressor. Adopting a more basic medical technique called Pressure strikes. Dog-Ox-Rat would quickly be followed by three quick strikes to pressure points on both his legs. A small amount of chakra utilized but he wouldn't opt to lose in speed. Analyzing his opponent as he did so. His eyes trailing him to the left as he let loose two swords like slow Kunai. Moving faster then those significantly as he moved to the right. Tadara would shift his feet and launch backwards and to the left. He wouldn't be easily caught by a combo with throwing and melee. His movements carried him at A rank speed back five meters and to his left five meters.

Positioning aside his opponent was coming at him rather aggressively. As if determined to eliminate him. He would need to take this seriously. First however was a dull sensation he felt to observing the young mans movements once he maintained a twenty meter distance. Perhaps it meant getting too close to the young mans style would mean a dip in his reaction time. However Tadara had little time to analyze that. The young man was continuing to push forward to Tadara would move back maintaining a healthy distance shifting between twenty and fifteen meters. He wasn't a close range fighter really so allowing someone who so obviously was to close the distance didn't add up well for him. However there were ways to deal some damage to the coordination stat of the young man as well. Keeping the distance between them as he retreated. Tadara would quietly form the hand seal of snake as he focused on producing his counter attack. Thirty bee's would begin to buzz as they erupted from his sleeves. Individually they weren't much threat....but a hive on the other hand....

While keeping his distance and watching the coordinated attack and his opponent thirty bee's would erupt from Tadara's sleeves. Flying out at B+ speed and encircling his attacker. Thirty bee's would begin to dive in from thirty different angles and attempt to get under the clothing or at exposed skin. Stinging at the back, legs, neck and face. Thirty bee's surging at Nakaba at once. Testing to see what hidden tricks he had while attempting to inject at least six stingers worth of venom. Attempting to drop his ability to fight significantly. If he couldn't avoid being stung six times he would feel his body begin to swell and his vision blur from the effects of said venom. All the while Tadara would quietly watch while being much more conservative in his chakra usage.

"Regret is for those who prevent me from my work."

    Analyzing Nakaba 1/1

A cloud emerged from Tadara, dozens of separate chakra signatures vastly amplified the chakra density. As Tadara formed the first hand seal, Nakaba would skid to a stop, not wanting to get hit with an attack at point blank range. He would slide his left foot backwards as chakra began coming from Tadara's hands dropping his techniques in exchange for a potent increase in his power as radiant fuuin tattoos shaped like chains etched up from his heart across his body. Right hand cocked back, Nakaba would slam it into the ground as the attack would resonate twice in the rocks surface to send a dust cloud up around him. With strength he had never exerted before rocks, pebbles, and chunks of ground would raise up into the air as well.

Much to his surprise the resonance also shattered the ground beneath his feet, collapsing the walkway in a one meter radius around him.It would take him a moment to understand what happened as these were completely novel circumstances. His plan had been to become invisible and dash past the swarm, but quickly he would change plans as he fell past the half meter of ground, crouched to get line of sight faster, and leapt off the boulder onto the bottom of the walkway continuing his chase from beneath.Beginning to sprint again Nakaba would use sensory to track down Tadara, aiming to get just beneath him to attempt the opposite, but the current situation was difficult to manage. At A-Rank speeds Nakaba hoped to be losing the swarm that was sent after him.

Post by Tadara Tue Oct 31, 2023 8:09 pm

The young man would slam his hand down and Tadara would let his eyebrows raise at the impact of destroyed stone. Certainly a heavy impact for a physical body. Even at the point of impact Tadara would note the strain on the young mans hand before he was masked by the debris. If he did that too many more times his hand would give in. So there was a difference between his power and his durability. However amber eyes would take in the hole that was left behind. He would note that the sensation of being unable to keep his usual ability with hand eye coordination was still hampered and could deduct the young man wasn't gone. Which left his probability of approaching from beneath to be considerable. Tadara would shift to the castle wall and use a similar technique to climb the walls sideways. Standing a solid ten meters above the ground looking down as his eyes searched out his opponent. His speed still boosted by the pressure points. He would however not spot him yet unless he came up back onto the bridge. The bridge itself was easy enough for him to break through with that immense strength but the castle was a different story.

For now he would take a breath and keep a calm mind about the situation. His cold eyes scanning the platform as he divided his bees into tactical approaches. Ten would become a barrier flying five meters between himself and the walkway below him. Ready to intercept anyone charging up at him. Ten would flow down into the hole and begin their pursuit of their target Nakaba to no immediate effect. However should he stop they would be upon him in a second or two. The final ten would fly over the side of the walkway and attempt to cut off Nakaba from any path back up but through. He would be flanked if he didn't do anything soon and be left with unfortunate options. For now though Tadara merely watched and waited with the bare minimum of effective attack power. Still he could feel some mild irritation at being attacked so brazenly. He contemplated the use of a genjutsu but for now stuck with his bee's. They were slower than his target but not by too much. Less than a full tier. If he kept on the move he could evade them but the numbers would persist after him. A matter of time really.

Post by Nakaba Thu Nov 02, 2023 9:00 pm

Struggling and straining to get his breath back under control Nakaba would rest here under the bridge for a moment as he perched beneath Tadara. Nakaba begrudgingly noted the 20 chakra signatures approaching shifting into spring chant once more, taking a deep inhale before striking. With his swings towards the initial group being his first real strikes against an actual opponent, Nakaba struggled to line up more than two bees at a time. Then the first bee would get through probably somewhere where Nakaba had a gap in his ‘armor’. He’d hit that one as it made contact, but the hit itself was a death sentence.

As the next wave came, Nakaba would get hit by a second sting then a third before he could dispatch a single bee. The tides didn’t overtake Nakaba slowly. A final burst of unpredictablility would do naught but waste what little energy the genin had left in his veins. Errant swings would hit occassional bees, but Nakaba’s last sword swing would cut through the air not losing momentum as his body turned to mist leaving Tadara and his bees to their studies. Silence would fall upon the space as neither Nakaba nor clone would know of the Owl’s connection to his past nor of Tadara’s connection to the Land of Wind.

What Shadows Dawn Cannot Dispel Empty Re: What Shadows Dawn Cannot Dispel

Post by Tadara Sat Nov 04, 2023 2:51 pm

For a Moment Tadara would wait along the side of the wall. He would settle there with his arms crossed as his bee's did his fighting for him. The young man was fast. Perhaps able to keep up with Shigo in terms of physical ability. However for the young man it had been a poor match up. Likely he was burning through chakra just to keep up with the pace and starting at a distance. Had he managed to get closer during that initial fight Tadara had calculated a much more difficult time. He would have likely had to resort to his genjutsu or seals and he wouldn't have gotten away without having to heal himself. Impressive for a genin but he needed to manage his chakra output or he would only be good for a couple initial engagements. For a single target attacker he was impressive though. Tadara would likely send a written recommendation for chunnin if not for the fact that his word would likely be detrimental. And this one had attacked him all the same. Perhaps it wasn't entirely beneficial to keep his name from popping up anywhere. He had taken on the Jounin commander and won after all. Even if she had simply underestimated him.

Still soon the majority of bee's he had sent to attack would disperse from under the bridge. His opponent had been vanquished. Unable to keep up with the sheer number of attacks. Honey colored eyes would shift to some movement on the pillar as one of the three tags would fade to mist at the same time. Eye's narrowing as he removed himself from the wall and collected the other two to study. So this castle had a self responding system in place. His eyes scanned around for anyone monitoring them as he dispersed the bee's to search as well. Finding nothing he confirmed his suspicion. These tags might empower the flight of the castle...but the nature of it was something else. With that he would retire to a lower floor where he had arrived. The illusions didn't seem to wander and his only threat would come through the anchor port. He would rest there for the time being. Eating and hydrating for the further exploration. He wanted to be prepared for whatever may come and the boy had taken some measure of energy from him. Both in calories and chakra.

Exit thread, Tadara victory 2 tags.
