Manning the Shop [D-Rank] Empty Manning the Shop [D-Rank]

Post by Shin Mon Dec 14, 2020 8:21 pm

    Manning the Shop:
    Mission Name: Manning the Shop
    Mission Type: Chore
    Mission Rank: D
Mission Goal: Lend a Hand to the shopkeeper
Description: the shopkeeper needs some help working the counter of his shop, get to work.
    Payment: 10k
    Requirements: -

An exhausted looking Shin could not be spotted if someone walked through the front entrance to Sayo’s bookstore… what the actual name of the shop had been, Shin couldn’t be bothered to remember at this particular moment. For someone who was usually a morning person, it was just one of those days where Shin was just unexpectedly and infinitely tired for each passing hour that went by. So far, it had been only an hour and a half working at this shop, and all Shin had accomplished thus far was putting back the books on the shelves and was expected to return to the front desk where Sayo had requested their help. Instead, Shin had decided to sit down at one of the few empty seats in the shop and rest his eyes for a few moments. Those few moments had continually increased from what Shin mentally stated would be a minute to nearing half an hour of dozing off on the seat.

If someone happened to walk by the area and had not seen Shin, they would not hear a sound come from the man. However, it was clear to anyone that attained a visual on the Muramatsu that the brown-haired man was fast asleep. A slight trickle of drool would escape his mouth, his head tilted completely onto his right shoulder, bound to give his neck some slight issues when his eyes opened once more and his consciousness returned to the book shop he was tasked with helping out with.

Books, books, and... magazines. Everything put in a particular order, the morning weary Katsumi slowly put the books away, paying particular attention to the order they were placed, if they were set as a series to set them in the right order there as well. It was all so meticulous, each book placed upon a shelf and re-stocked seemed to come interrupted by a slight or even, heavy, yawn as he put eveyrthing together. Their morning task was simple, help the shopkeeper, put the books up, and help customers find anything should they come to the shop this early.

Katsumi couldn't imagine that latter even happening this early but as he broke down his next empty box to be put away and trashed, he couldn't help but notice that it had been quiet for a while now. His eyes glancing around as he stopped, his ears tightening in on his surroundings and finding... nothing? No, that was the problem. Nothing. He was supposed to have some help with this task but he didn't hear the shuffling of feet, emptying of boxes, or the soft thud of a book being set onto a shelf. A quick and quiet tour would find his mission partner neatly asleep on the chair not really stirring as Katsumi walked next to him, noticing especially the drool that had begun to collect. With a small and yet, irritated, chuckle Katsumi would turn back into the store and head over to the non-fiction section. Fingers perused several large books until he came to a single book, nearly two inches in thickness and leather-bound, Morrison's Ninja Handbook Vol. III As he felt the wieght of it in his hand, he would walk back over to his sleeping companion and with a pause, he would lift the book up and let it drop to the crown of his head. On contact he would yell out, "Hey, we don't get paid for sleeping!" He would stand and wait to see what came up of his actions.

The first thing that roused him was something heavy dropping upon the crown of his head, followed by the sound of a voice that he clearly did not register, choosing to ignore the words entirely and opting to rub the spot of his head where the book had been dropped. Shin did not look up to figure out who the culprit was, since he already knew the one person who it would be, especially given who he was assigned to do this mission with. “Anyone ever teach you any manners?” He would grumble out, finally opening his cool amber orbs to glare at Katsumi. “And being dropped on your head is not a reasonable excuse to go around dropping books on someone’s head.” Shin continued promptly, providing very little room for a rebuttal to be formed by Katsumi. Shaking his head to hopefully alleviate the pain slightly, Shin would rise to his feet, removing himself from the seat he had planted himself on.

“And, if you must know… I already finished most of the work here, perhaps you should stop slacking and continue working.” It was slight fib, though Shin had accomplished most of his task of returning books to their proper places, as they had very few interruptions due to the lack of customers this early in the day. “I’ll return to the front counter once I’m done here.” Shin stated as he would go back to the small pile of books he had remaining and put them back in their rightful place, which would only take a handful of minutes. Less than ten minutes later, Shin would be done with the task and would return to the front counter in order to help any customers that would enter the building. The day would pass by relatively slowly, with not too many customers coming in, but it wasn’t the worst job that Shin had taken thus far. Eventually their day would come to an end with little difficulties presenting themselves.

"Apparently not, but what's your excuse?" Katsumi would taunt onwards as Shin rubbed his head from where Katsumi had planted the book on his head. "I wasn't dropped on my head though, I just have more respect for getting our work done and behaving in the appropriate setting." Retort or not, Katsumi would return to his list of chores and returning the books to the shelves and tearing down the boxes to be thrown away. Not long after the process was complete they would be done with their tasks and stuck in the monotony of the rest of the day, waiting for customers and helping them with finding various books or researching various topics. All in all, the whole process was rather against Katsumi's typical plan of applying himself physically first or going for whatever process outright instead of researching and studying the subject at hand. It made some things easier, and made him more capable of innovating and changing things up on the fly however, in turn it left him rather clueless on a great many number of subjects and even those that he did 'know' he couldn't describe in any consistent detail. Still, the day would drag on, the conversation with Shin would be another example of their usual half-insulting and half questioning back and forth. Again, the day would unfold, they'd turn their mission in and go their separate ways, leaving Katsumi wondering if there were a better way of rekindling some amount of mutual respect between the two of them.
