Ningyo waited beneath the shade of the tree for Airi. She read a small pocket sized book. Ningyo read these to optimize her schedule so as not to waste any training time. The book, called the Hagakure, said; "When one's courage is fixed in his heart, and his resolution is devoid of doubt, when the time comes he will of necessity be able to choose the right move."
The book, while philosophical, still contained some of the wisdom of the samurai-poet who wrote it.
Konoha HQ had relayed it's orders. Today, the two-man team had been directed to uncover a human trafficking ring in the immediate vicinity of Konoha. Intel had stated that disappearances of women and children had been occurring in neighboring villages within the immediate area of Konogakure, and possibly even within the village itself. The team was directed to pursue and put an end to the slave trading activity in the area 'with extreme prejudice'.
Honestly, Ningyo had been a little surprised that this mission had even come down the wire at all. The white slavery of the 'Red Light District' was a public secret even in Konohagakure. And the village (in it's capacity as a large military base for the Fire Country) had mostly turned a blind eye to the various mature forms of recreation and leisure. They retained a large population of male shinobi personnel engaged in frequent violent combat, and the demand for these services was sky high. Too close to their own backyard hm? thought Ningyo.
She knew better than to make any allusion of this to Airi, the senior shinobi, and team leader on this mission, whose skill she admired. As a Genin, these matters were way above her rank. It would be unprofessional to mention at best, and mutinous at worst, she might wind up in a Konoha interrogation room! Regardless, Ningyo was excited at the chance to do some meaningful work, beyond the usual cleaning up of wild animals and junkies she had hitherto engaged in.
When Airi approached the tree beside the path Ningyo would put away her book and bow respectfully. "Ready to depart when you are ma'am." Ningyo would report in an optimistic voice with a smile. Ningyo had taken the Ninja lifestyle in stride, the idea that they might be injured while completing the errands the village tasked them with was routine. However, with Airi with her, Ningyo had the feeling that an incident was more than unlikely.
Ningyo would follow Airi as they travelled through the treetops. She knew very little about tracking, so she was counting on Airi to use her Byakugan to help them locate the slave traders base. Ningyo had expected to be slightly intimidated by a higher ranking shinobi, as one would be intimidated by a commanding officer, or deadly instructor. Interestingly Airi seemed to be somewhat carefree and nice. Perhaps this bubbly exterior was the carefully crafted device of a master shinobi to divert and confuse the enemy. Ningyo would assume giving her attention to the assignment at hand.
"It's pretty out today. Nice day to stop some human trafficking huh?"
