Cosmic Horror Sage Mode Lore
- The Calling:
Open for The Calling
Those who look upwards and those who look inwards may find themselves feeling a lack of 'something' in their life. Those who fall into this despair are open for invitation from the Old Ones. Those who have wished for things due to their awful circumstances are prime candidates for The Calling. Those susceptible to The Calling must only beg for power, beg to the cosmos for change, and the Old Ones will accept the pleas from those with nothing to lose.
Upon The Calling, the user will notice the night sky open up in a sea of stars and a sea of myriad colors above them. They, however, are the only ones capable of seeing this beautiful spectacle and are the only ones capable of perceiving the Old Ones. They speak in a cryptic language, but you are capable of understanding every strange word They speak. These words echo and resound through your skull, causing pain and agony as Their voice tickles at your mind, scratching at it like claws of a beast. Once the sky full of stars and colors appear, a hole forms in it's wake with a representation of the Old Ones appearing before you. Seeing the Old Ones would drive anyone mad, and They would not approve of a future member of the Collective to be driven completely mad before the contract would be signed.
You will be asked questions and you will be judged. Those further into despair are more susceptible to their temptations while those of sound mentality would easily get sluffed off by the Old Ones and their memories wiped of The Calling.
Accepting the Calling
After the questioning, if you fulfill the criteria given by the Old Ones, you will be asked one final question. "Wilst Thou Join the Collective?" in their foreign speech. If you say yes, the contract is signed and you will become a member of the Collective. The true image of one of the Old Ones will appear before you, twisting and warping your mind enough to cause physical pain and anguish. Upon coming to accept this pain and coming to accept that this pain may lead you to your death, then and only then will the Old Ones make you their Sage. Warping and twisting your mind and body for the price of great power. Those who have been chosen to be the Cosmic Horror Sage will be granted a new language, the 'Tongue of the Old Ones'. Only those who know the 'Tongue of the Old Ones' are capable of deciphering this strange language.
Price of the Calling
Everything has a price. For accepting The Calling, the users would give up their souls to the Old Ones. Upon death, the user's soul would return to the collective and be devoured by lesser Cosmic Horrors and will eventually become a Cosmic Horror, themselves to roam the cosmos, striking fear and madness to those that come into contact with them. Due to this, the user's character may never be revived by any means. While their body can be returned, their soul will never attach itself to the body. They would become a creature only found in nightmares and machinations of one's own twisted imagination. A representation of their strength as a Sage will determine the representation as a Cosmic Horror.
Sage Mode Information
- Technique Enhancement, Chakra Pool, Upkeep:
Senjutsu Technique Enhancement
By mixing Senjutsu Chakra into a technique, Sages are able to enhance the power and effectiveness of that technique. This can create techniques referred to as Sage Arts, or can simply improve the power rank of a regular jutsu by 1. To do this, the Sage need only spend half of the technique's cost with the pool of Senjutsu Chakra, while using the normal chakra pool for the other half. This ability is available to both Perfect and Imperfect Sages.
Senjutsu Chakra Pool
The Senjutsu Chakra Pool is the energy reservoir drawn from when using Sage Mode and what is spent in the technique enhancement ability mentioned above. The amount of Senjutsu Chakra available is based on the amount of training put into Sage Mode. It takes a careful balance and is therefore difficult to expand, forcing Sages to spend 50 Experience Points to increase the pool by 10 points. Every Sage's Senjutsu Chakra Pool starts out at zero points but then slowly grows as they invest experience. The absolute limit to their Senjutsu Chakra Pool is half of their base Stamina stat's points.
Sage Mode Upkeep
While in Sage Mode, Sages use a constant draw of Senjutsu Chakra from their pool. This begins at the cost of 20 points per post, but by spending 500 Experience Points, Sages can halve that value to 10 points per post. Perfect Sages are able to do this again, spending another 500 Exp Points to bring the cost down to 5 points per post.
Gathering Senjutsu Chakra
Because of these costs, Sages may find themselves depleting their Senjutsu Chakra pool rather quickly, providing a need to renew that energy. By remaining completely still, the Sage can effectively become one with nature, allowing Nature Chakra to flow into his body that he immediately converts to Senjutsu Chakra. This is one of the hardest parts of mastering Sage Mode, but it is a vital skill for any Sage to learn. Remaining still requires that the user wait 72 hours before their pool is filled to 100%. No partial wait times are permitted, the user must wait the full 72 hours or nothing is gathered.
Alternatively, a player can do a mini "flashback" recalling that they gathered Sage chakra at a previous point in time. This allows the user to start with 50% of their Sage Pool filled by paying 250 Experience upon entry into the thread. It requires that the user actually have 250 Spendable Experience available per their most recent update and that they declare their exercise of this option in an OOC note in their post. If they fail to make this declaration in their entrance post, they may not exercise this option.

Upon gaining Cosmic Horror Sage, Perfect and Imperfect, the user will now understand the language of The Collective. They are able to speak and understand it. Click Here for the translator. The Custom Sage Mode Transformation has two variants. These appearance difference of these variants are only cosmetic in difference. The user may choose to use either of the following appearances at any time:
| Eldritch Sage
Seen as the 'weaker' and less perfect transformation into Sage Mode. Upon entering Sage Mode, the user's clothes will change to a more gothic appearance, their hair and eyes will will turn completely black, and they will have thick black circles around their eyes. They could easily blend in with the shinobi, appearing to be edgy or gothic, or just your run-of-the-mill Uchiha. They will also have blackened blood upon bleeding. Perfect Sages and Imperfect Sages have access to Eldritch Sage Mode. | | Slave to the Collective
Seen as the "Perfect" version of the Cosmic Horror Sage. Upon entering, the user feels a slithering over their skin before their clothes melt away and their skin melt away to a more terrifying form. This will take on the user's body but with strikingly monstrous features. Their faces are replaced by that of a monster's with many razor sharp teeth. All traces of their humanity have disappeared upon entering into the Slave of the Collective. Tentacles and other wiggly appendages sprout from the user's body. While the tentacles are merely for show, it is enough to drive anyone who sees them completely mad. They will also have Musou Black blood. When the Slave to the Collective speaks, they speak using the pronouns: 'us' and 'we', speaking as the mouthpiece of The Collective. Their voice also changes to sound like their own voice mixed in with 9 other voices. Only Perfect Sages are capable of reaching the Slave of the Collective. |

Sage Kata
Cosmic Horror Kata: The user gains ++ to Intelligence and Constitution. The user is capable of converting any [True Damage] to [Psychological Damage], affecting the target's INT rather than their CON.
Sage Mode Custom Exclusive Perk
Flying Horror: While in Sage Mode, the user is capable of 'stepping up' upon the air, treating the air as if was a solid object allowing the user to effectively 'fly'. While doing this, the user's speed is treated as their "flight" speed and must obey all flight rules.
