- Ito was born the second of a pair of twins to two Kotoshura parents, though both were from completely different family lineages, their only common ancestor being dozens of generations back, so their marriage was generally accepted. Thankfully, this genetic fact didn't prove to have any effect on their first children, and so Hazira and Ketsue Kotoshura were happy to raise Atsu and Ito. However, due to the increasing internal strife in their now independent homeland in Iwagakure, Hazira had ended up using alcohol to deal with the increasing stress and being called on to occasionally put down dissenters by using some of the Kotoshura clan's potent advanced element to force them to disperse. This eventually came to a head when a group became too violent, prompting Hazira to use a much more drastic and deadly technique when the insurrection attempted to attack his much smaller team that had been sent to simply subdue them. In the aftermath of that fight, Hazira discovered that he had inadvertently killed one of his childhood friends. In light of Hazira's unsanctioned use of deadly force to silence the combatants, he was shamed as a killer of his own countrymen and was stripped of all accolades, as well as his rank as a Jounin, returning him to civilian life in disgrace. His drinking only worsened, and culminated in savage beatings to his wife and sons. Atsu received most of it while Ito always only experienced the back end of such things, causing the severity of the situation for him to not be as bad. For Atsu, this was stressful and it proved harsh in the form of stunted growth. Contrary to this, Ito only experienced a small portion of this stress, so the effects weren't as strong for him. This caused him to be a few inches taller than his brother. It eventually became apparent that the drunken beatings were going to continue, and so Ketsue stole away with Atsu in order to avoid further attacks from her husband, fearing for their lives. Ito was never left in as serious a condition as the other two and that left both a thankful taste and a spiteful taste in Ketsue's mouth. Though, after they left, Ito began to become the main focus of the beatings, so he decided to just leave at points during the day to minimize the amount of beatings, though he would always come back to care for the wellbeing of Hazira. Atsu, never wanting to see the look of fear on his mother's face again, chose to join the Academy the next year at the age of 12. Atsu told of this choice to Ito during one of his weekly visits, this persuaded Ito to do the same. This would become Ito's reason to leave his father daily.
On the day that he graduated from the Academy, Ito had learned that his father had drunk himself to death from the shame and loneliness that he had brought upon himself. Ito relayed the message to his mother and brother. But at that point, it had become apparent to Ito that the two of them no longer retained any connection towards Hazira, so he left it at that. Moving in with his twin and mother once again, they slowly started to become happy together, though Ito was still sad to know that their father had passed. Despite all the turbulence he had caused the family, Ito still loved him. Never the less, he chooses nothing more than to stay loyal and caring to the family he has left. Although he has a bit of ill feelings towards the individuals who sparked the degradation of his father, Atsu was loyal to the village. For that reason and that reason alone, Ito was as well.
