Kagura was up early, as per usual, and left the Inn well before anyone else.  Because of the small and run-down tavern they were staying at, there was only a pair of rooms, and Tamwyn and any others who chose to stay with him stayed in theirs.  What had been a little odd is while she hadn't minded sharing the small bed with Ina, she found the woman basically spooning her when she woke.  She didn't think much of it, as it was something likely that happened in their sleep and Kagura had managed to slip away without the blonde noticing, so that much at least was comforting.  There wouldn't be any mixed messages more than likely, as it was an odd feeling that she hadn't experienced since Akari... but she had to admit, it was some of the best sleep she had gotten in some time.  The nightmares no longer plagued her, but getting good, restful sleep was something that didn't come so easily still.

Kagura wanted to do some training, just to keep her skills sharp, but already in this early morning, she noticed a lot of the people in this town beginning to get to work.  Frail, underfed, and in ragged clothing patched together so many times that it seemed like a makeshift quilt rather than proper clothing.  Meanwhile, some ways away she noticed a few nobles walking in fine silks towards one of the elaborate administration buildings that were present.  The difference between those in power and those who were not was absolutely staggering.  The only people who made even a somewhat decent wage were those who were working for the nobles themselves, and even then, only barely.  Kagura gritted her teeth; the answer was obvious.  She could either take over by force and try to justify it to the people, or she could buy the country out from the nobles... but she didn't have anywhere near that kind of money.  Millions of Ryo.  Considering that her funding from the Hidden Leaf was now non-existent, as was her obligation to that village, she didn't have a reliable source of income anymore.  She couldn't even do missions as she wasn't a part of this place either if there were missions to do.

But there had to be something the brunette could do to improve the lives of the people here.  She could simply help them with their tasks, but that was only a stop-gap.  She needed a long-term solution that was going to be stable.  Then she needed to investigate that odd aura she had sensed when exploring the nation, as that very well could be the shrine that she was seeking from her dreams.  There was simply too much to do without proper solutions for a large portion of them.  While contemplating, Ina emerged from the tavern doorway and walked up behind her.  "Good morning."  She turned her gaze to meet the blonde's own for a moment, gave her a small smile, and nodded, then turned her gaze back towards the square, wracking her mind for a solution. Wearing her typical white and red outfit she felt the sun begin to hit the side of her face while her gaze never waivered from the task at hand.

Tamwyn did not sleep the night they arrived within Okami no Mure. Instead he had paid for the room for Moraine and Priya and he himself had simply sat upon the roof of the inn, allowing his mind to wander. The moon had been full, it's silvery glow casting it's light upon the land in all directions and the stars had filled the sky with it. As he sat and thought his eyes wandered the village. Many people seemed to live in squalor yet he could clearly see a more high class area where better housing was. His yellow eyes noted this to himself as he sat. He had removed his armor long enough to wash, ensuring he was clean and that his equipment was taken care of. The sheathe of Aerondight lay within his lap as he sat. The weapon usually being stored across his back. His armor was on, the deceptively bulky equipment well maintained and clean. His close trimmed beard had been neatly groomed and his long white hair was pulled into a simple and functional tail. The vertical scar that ran through his left eye one of many marks upon him. Although all others were hidden.

His mind wandered to three other marks. One on his back, in the shape of a pendent. It was sharped like a circle with a five pointed star surrounded by decorative circles. On the actual pendent those circles were diamonds. In his skin it simply made a brand. He had the same brand mark, a cauterization scar to be precise, upon his front. In the upper quadrant of his right pectoral muscle. The same mark was tattooed over his heart in black ink. The mark forming the seal that allowed him access to the powerful black raiton. A form of lightning manipulation that was fearsomely powerful to any who fought it. His night had gone uneventful, he saw Kagura leave to help the people with their task. However he kept himself hidden, his stealth skills were quite good after all. Awhile later however she would come back and he would still have not moved.

As Kagura stood and contemplated her companion, the blonde, would step from the inn's doorway before turning her gaze back toward the square. Once she had done that, he would stand and step off of the Inn's roof. He would land upon the ground with a solid weight, his knee's bending slightly to accommodate but otherwise his expression would be simple and stoic. He moved the hilt of Aerondight to his back as it was meant to be, hooking the clasp and moving toward the outskirts of town. As he did he would call out toward Kagura. His tone very different without Priya immediately there. "I'm going to get a warm up in. Join me if you wish." He would say toward the brunette as he moved.

He would move aways out of the town, intent upon not causing anyone trouble and when he was a safe enough distance he would draw his weapon. The gleam of the metal would reflect the rising light of the sun as he turned to see if he had been followed. If not, he would simply move through his own kata normally, no big deal. If he had he would raise an eyebrow in a silent question. He could still work on his own forms, or if she wished they could do a light bit of swordplay. Nothing serious, just something to warm the body up for the day. Too any who looked one would not be able to tell he had not slept and his stance was solid and firm. His shoulders straight and his back unbowed and unbent.

Kagura hadn’t thought to activate her Sensory this early in the morning when there wasn’t a threat to be had, and that had been her mistake. Apparently Tamwyn was awake and on the roof. She idly wondered if he had been there all night, or if this was something recent and she had simply missed him moving up there… but she was pretty sure it was the former. Another who didn’t sleep all that well it seemed. The brunette turned and nodded gently in his direction as a form of respect and greeting. “Good morning.” Ina did the same, although silently, and dipping her head a little more in respect to the man who had saved her friend. As he spoke, she noted the change in her tone, and immediately wondered what that was because, but said nothing of it for the moment, deciding instead to respond to the words instead. “Certainly.” Kagura then shifted her belt a bit so her sword, Starlight, was no longer behind her in a non-threatening manner back to it’s original position at her side, ready to be drawn.

She moved to follow him, giving Ina a small smile and holding up a hand. The indication was clear; Ina had sensory and the capability to talk to anyone within her sensory range; if something was to go wrong, she could contact her immediately, and she wanted her to keep watch here. The two had a lot of ability to communicate without saying a word it would seem, something that came so naturally that it was as though they had spent their entire lives together rather than just the short time it was in truth. It was comfortable, although at times she truly wondered if Ina was somehow reading her thoughts because of the lack of questions followed by perfectly executed results.

Out of town was a good idea, and the warmup would help her clear her mind properly. Without a word, she moved to the opposite side of the clearing, leaving a little space between them, noting his stance and moving into her own. Slightly hunched over, one hand to the side for balance and additional support if needed, blade near her face and aimed straight at Tamwyn. She would wait until he was ready, and take a short breath to herself, centering her intent; just a warmup, nothing serious. All her strikes would be aimed slightly away from the actual target, which were the weakpoints of the body. She wouldn’t move at full speed or strike with full power at first at all, not bothering to boost herself with Chakra at all. No techniques, just swordplay. The basics of the basics. If he moved with higher speed and such, she would match his own. “Ready?” she asked politely, and then once she got a confirmation, would lunge forward, a jab aimed for his right ear that wouldn’t quite connect if he didn’t block or parry, but also with just the tip of her blade, giving her the maximum amount of reach while giving herself as much room for safety as possible.

He would note her stance and the weapon in her hand. The stance was fine and the weapon was of suitable quality as well. He could tell that now without any difficulty now that he knew what to look for. A craftsman's eye as it were, and his could see how well made the weapon was. However it still wasn't going to be enough to handle his own weapon. The stance Kagura dropped into was a thrusting stance. Which of course given her weapon made sense as it was not a weapon meant for slashing attacks. His own weapon, Aerondight was a longsword and capable of thrusting, slashing, and even parrying with great effectiveness. He held his sword in a high guard stance. It was an overconfident, arrogant stance that tended to make opponents feel like he was underestimating them. He used it to feel like emotional and mental stability in swordplay. Two things that were critically important to any swordsmen and he paid careful attention to how she reacted to the stance. At her question he would simply give her a small sardonic smirk before nodding. The smirk played into the stance well although it was how he'd react normally too.

At his confirmation she would lunge forward and his yellow eyes would watch carefully. Her form was good, perfect even, keeping herself a small target for counterattack as she thrust forward with the tip of her weapon. He could see it was aimed for the side of his head, near his ear. Where it would pass harmlessly by and he swung his own weapon as his best speed as it closed it. The great blade of Aerondight came down toward the rapier that was 'Starlight' and should it impact would more than likely parry the blade viciously down, point first, into the ground. The goal of which being to completely and utterly arrest her momentum. Should it be successful there was a solid chance she would effectively run straight into the hilt of her own weapon. Although based on what he had seen she would probably have the reaction speed to avoid such an embarrassing fate. Once the parry was done he would swiftly bring his weapon back up, sitting it calmly within the the hollow of the throat. A clear point. All the while his yellow eyes would never even blink, they would remain trained on her. Searching for her reaction.

Kagura had been very well put through her paces when she and Akari had been training, so when Tamwyn took up a stance that most people would see as something arrogant and foolhardy, she saw an open and obvious trap.  She wouldn't diverge from her attack but would be particularly cautious as she moved in for the strike towards his ear.  She wasn't going to make the mistake of ever underestimating an opponent, especially one as famous as the one before her; it made perfect sense that he didn't know who she was, as she hadn't made as many notable accomplishments just yet.  But it was when he moved to deflect her sword that she realized that she might be in some trouble.  His weapon blurred, even with her Sensory active and her eyes tracking him well, meaning that his movement speed was much faster than her own.  Still, it was only deflecting her blade, right?

    Wrong.

It hit her sword and almost instantly shattered the tip of the blade, and a large crack formed through the length of the blade from the force and the speed of the strike.  Her instincts, well-honed, didn't hesitate and she pivoted off her forward foot and used her momentum to spin away from Tamwyn, but for good measure, after a quick one-handed seal, she also created a Plasma Shield with her off-hand to defend herself with as she spun in case he tried to perform a counterattack in her direction during the spin.  Had she been stunned by her blade breaking, it was quite likely that he would have his blade right where her throat would be, but not quite touching.  Without hesitating, she spun the blade in her hand and placed it back into her scabbard, and her sword hand clenched into a fist, and she used another one-handed seal and created a Plasma Blade that was far longer than the rapier she had been using.  The combination of the two cast her in a blue, eerie glow as they crackled with power, and she was slightly crouched behind her shield while holding the sword backward at the ready, prepared to deal with his follow-up attack.  There was only one thing that showed that something significant had happened, and it was obvious with the pale light.

There were tears in Kagura's eyes.  That blade had been one of the only things she had from Akari, who had introduced her to the crafter who had made it.  She would have to find someone to fix it, but she didn't blade Tamwyn; his blade was simply vastly superior, and it wasn't his fault.  If anything, it was her fault for thinking that it was a good idea to use real weapons for a warm-up.  Lightning danced between the two blades around her fist and across her shield, but to her credit, Kagura didn't show any sign of giving up either... only that something had happened that bothered her.

Humane Intervention Empty Re: Humane Intervention

Post by Kimiko Mon Jan 31, 2022 11:27 pm

Kimiko had been silently tracking Kagura and Tamwyn. She'd been unable to find a shop before like she wanted, which was a bit disappointing. She had been trying to get her hands on a new weapon, since she'd recently been reworking her skill set. Rather than focusing on being a Taijutsu user, Kimiko had decided that weaponry would be more efficient of a way for her to fight someone like Satomi.

If she was going to kill Satomi, she'd need to be able to deal a lethal shot in one hit, and she wasn't strong enough of a person to do that with her fists. She'd need to use a blade. That had been part of her reason for learning how to utilize sensory. She could shut off her chakra signature from being sensed by anyone, and thus become the perfect assassin.

She'd noticed the abnormally large chakra signature of Tamwyn the night before, while he slept, as well as the familiar signature of Kagura, and her companion Ina. After some sleuthing, Kimiko noticed that Tamwyn was someone she remembered, a person she'd encountered in Iwagakure during the war.

Having established that, remembering that he was a skilled fighter of no small renown, Kimiko knew that if someone was going to be able to rival the power of someone like Satomi, it was going to be him. That left her with two options: She could try and form a friendship with him, using him for something like taking on Satomi in a group. Or she could use him as practice, seeing whether or not her assassination skills would be up to snuff.

Kimiko was a very intelligent girl. She was able to run through scenarios in her mind quite well, simulating what would happen pretty quickly. Having done that, she decided that forming a friendship with Tamwyn wasn't going to work. He seemed to get along well enough with Kagura. Kimiko's purpose for following Kagura had been more on a whim than anything else, but she didn't seem to be an enemy of Konoha after having spent the time she had with her, especially as she had a Yamanaka companion.

Forming a group wouldn't really work, as Kagura wouldn't want to help kill Satomi, and may even attempt to stop her from taking such a form of revenge. And from what she remembered of Tamwyn, he was too much of an honorable person, having chosen to leave Iwagakure rather than fighting her on the threat of Konoha doing more damage to the village by continuing their fight rather than ending it then and there. A person like that would try and talk her out of fighting Satomi, and may even side with Konoha now that the war had been over, going the route of peace.

No, it was more likely that they wouldn't be any use to her, except for practice. Having travelled with Kagura for a time, and knowing Tamwyn's skills weren't too bad themselves, Kimiko decided that she'd use them to try out her assassination skills, away from the eyes of the Major Nations. There would never be such a skilled group of shinobi to try and take out without her going to the Major Nations themselves, and she wasn't going to practice against them.

It was with that in mind that Kimiko had been following them, maintaining her Chakra Suppression, stalking silently as she went about. Even the Yamanaka wasn't able to sense her, and Kimiko had enough of a working knowledge on them to know that the axillary and support units weren't something to overlook. She needed to take out Ina first, so that she could deal with Tamwyn and Kagura afterwards without someone to warn them.

Leaving Ina near the entrance of the village, Kagura and Tamwyn had gone not too far away, although they had exited the outpost so that they could practice with no concern for their surroundings. And thus, the setup was perfect.

Kimiko waited for them to start their spar, and then she made her move. Cloaked, her Twin Inferno tanto concealed by the cloak she wore, Kimiko approached the exit, her chakra suppressed. Kimiko's Sharingan were active, but as it was simply a Doujutsu, sensory would be hard pressed to notice it, given how small its activation and maintenance cost.

As she walked past Ina, she tapped the girl on the shoulder, and immediately stopped suppressing her chakra and sent a Sharingan: Genjutsu towards the girl, who had turned to look at her, making eye contact in surprise as she did so, having not been expecting a person to be approaching given her lack of sensing anyone of note.

Kimiko was much smarter than the girl. She was able to completely control her actions from that moment on, even though doing so was quite an expensive endeavor. And with that complete control, she simply left her there with the order to ignore Kimiko's passing and not to interfere with what was going to happen. Perhaps Ina could be of use to her, given that Kimiko was able to wrest control of her mind so easily. Someone like her might be useful in the future, given her strange abilities and ties to Konoha. However, she wouldn't be so kind to Kagura or Tamwyn.

Immediately suppressing her chakra again, Kimiko's use of a technique would likely only be a small blip if anyone were paying attention, and given that the two of them were focused more on sparring, Kimiko was sure that it was safe enough for her to continue on.

With the two engaging each other's attention, Kimiko looked out to Tamwyn and Kagura, watching their spar. Interestingly enough, they were both within range of Amaterasu, as they had chosen to stay close enough to Ina so that she could sense them. 50 meters. And now it was time to test out her technique's capabilities.

Dropping her Chakra suppression again, Kimiko quickly charged up an Amaterasu in her eye and launched it at Kagura, landing the black flame on her torso. The woman wasn't wearing any armor, so the shot hit her and immediately began to consume her in the black flame. Her death would be quick. Tamwyn, not knowing where the shot came from, or aware that it wasn't some technique of her own design would likely not react at first with any real suspicion, giving her just enough time to charge up a second shot of Amaterasu and launch it at him, aiming for his head this time, given that he was heavily armored.

And with those shots, Kimiko fired a third in quick succession, just to consume Kagura's head in case she managed to remove her shirt without taking damage, and to advance her jutsu further, feeling that she was on the precipice of advancing her abilities with the Amaterasu. With that done, she felt the intuitive ability to be able to despawn the Amaterasu, and she advanced towards the two of them, removing the flame as soon as they stopped moving, their deaths assured. She'd already used the flames once before, and with these 3 uses making it a total of 4, she had advanced her ability and shown that assassination was well within her bounds.

Sheathing her blade, Kimiko wiped the blood off her face, and quickly arrived at Kagura and Tamwyn's corpses, pulling them out of sight of the village's entrance. Her time in the village would likely be short, but nobody would know what had happened to these two for long enough for her to leave without issue. Stripping Tamwyn of his armor and weaponry and anything else of value, Kimiko sealed them into one of her gauntlets using the Lightning Flash Blade Creation jutsu that she stored some of her stuff into.

Kagura didn't really have anything of value, and so she set the stage using Kagura's broken blade, piercing Tamwyn's chest with the weapon, placing the two of them in such a way that it appeared she'd run him through and then he'd immolated himself in order to take them both out.

And then, she headed back towards the village, getting Ina. Keeping the Sharingan: Genjutsu control up, Kimiko got her to collect her things, and then the two of them left the village, heading out. She had some idea of where to go having thought about it this before and having thought of somewhere else to lay low that nobody would associate with her and plan her next stage of attack and to erase her presence from the Land of Wolves before someone began questioning the fake crime scene too much.

Humane Intervention Empty Re: Humane Intervention

Post by Kara Tue Feb 01, 2022 7:48 pm

Priya had been spending her time in the Land of Wolves, watching over Kara’s brother as instructed. So far it hadn’t been particularly interesting as far as assignments went; Tamwyn was pretty and had a fun sense of humour, but nothing out of the ordinary had occurred since arriving in the hidden village in the Land of Wolves. That morning she’d gotten up early as usual and begun her rounds. Her ‘rounds’ consisted of ensuring that Tamwyn was still alive, and then fanning out from there and checking for anything suspicious.

There was never anything suspicious though and so Priya, while successful in her mission, was often bored. So she’d made a game of being hidden in order to entertain herself, it wasn’t a game anyone else knew about - it was more about keeping score for her own amusement. The answer to ‘How many times can I sneak up to Tamwyn without him noticing?’ was ‘All of the times’.

While engaging in this particular brand of nonsense to keep herself from going mental, Priya thought she saw something so she headed to the topmost branches of a nearby tree. She was light enough and stealthy enough to make the ascent without drawing attention it seemed, and she activated her Yūrei to peer down through the foliage at the scene below.

At first Priya thought that a more combative person should probably step in and that it might be part of her job to help protect Tamwyn, but after the first wave of fire engulfed her charge she thought better of that plan. She waited for Tamwyn to fight back, to save the day like he had with Moiraine, but he never did. This pale, dark haired woman with red eyes had the jump on them. And while Priya was good at what she did, what she was good at did not involve jumping in front of hellfire to complete a mission. That was more Doku’s style. The idiot.

So Priya watched and waited, keeping herself hidden and trying to think how she was going to explain this one to her boss. Then a curious thing happened, it seemed it wasn’t enough to assassinate Tamwyn and the girl he was sparring with. The red eyed woman dragged the bodies to a location outside the village and out of sight. Hidden well enough that it would take some time before anyone noticed, if anyone ever did at all. Her dark brown eyes scanned the surrounding area, looking for other witnesses, and finding none she held her peace until after the red eyed woman stripped the two of their gear and disappeared into the night.

Once Kimiko was gone, Priya hopped down from her perch and stealthily made her way over to the two bodies. Her heart was heavy as she saw their remains, she was no medical nin, but she knew dead when she saw it. “Oh you poor thing. Your sister is going to be. . . well. She’ll be sad, but I’m sure she’ll repress it like she does everything else. That particular trait seems to run in the family. I wonder if this time. . .” Now, Priya knew that this was not a murder/suicide like it had been made to look like, she had watched the whole thing. And while she didn’t recognize the assassin, she probably would if she saw her again. However, unlike Kara’s other ‘employees’, Priya was not a yes-man. It was part and parcel of why Kara trusted her so much; Priya had her own agenda, sense of self and had consistently proven that she had her boss’s best interests in mind. This didn’t always mean that Kara liked the choices that Priya made, but Kara was smart enough to see the value in them. This was one of those choices that Priya knew Kara wouldn’t like, but she was going to do it anyway, because loyalty to Priya didn’t mean following the king off the cliff, it meant stopping him from jumping.

With little effort, since Priya was quite strong for her diminutive size, the Wraith pulled the two burned corpses further into the forest and arranged them more respectfully - as though she were waiting on someone to come perform funeral rites. This did leave the previous scene muddled, and there was certainly evidence that a fight had occurred but even someone as intelligent as Kara would have difficulty piecing it together accurately. It would make the story of a murder/suicide believable, even to Mistress Kara herself. The next part was going to be more difficult, but it wouldn’t be the first time she’d lied to Kara, and she doubted it would be the last. “This time, no bloody vendettas.” Priya couldn’t be certain that Kara would spiral out of control again like she had with Damien, but she couldn’t risk it. The last bout of self sabotaging depression had nearly resulted in Kara drinking herself to death. Priya couldn’t stand by and watch that happen again, not when she had the chance to mitigate it. Her motives were pure, if her methods were not.

With Tamwyn’s armor gone it was easy to see the Twin Seal on his torso, and while she didn’t know exactly what it did since she was not a fuuinjutsu practitioner, she knew how to activate it. “I’m so sorry, Kara. This one’s going to be hard, but I promise to help you with the fallout.” Reaching out her small dark hand, she channelled a small amount of chakra into the Twin Seal and waited for Kara to arrive.

Kara and Doku popped into existence next to Priya, she had felt the Twin Seal activate and as promised had come as soon as she could. She was expecting an update on her brother’s travels, or possibly even a dicey combat situation, but what she hadn’t been expecting was to see the charred body of her brother lying on the ground. She stood still for a few moments, she didn’t speak, she didn’t even blink. She just stood there and took in the scene. Tamwyn’s body had been laid out like one would expect a body inside a casket; his arms were loosely crossed over his bare chest, and if she could see his face she imagined it would have had a serene expression. His face was all but obliterated by some sort of fire, and curiously he had a stab wound. She looked for a few minutes at him and then turned her attention to the charred woman’s corpse beside him. The woman was much more badly damaged than her brother, and it gave the impression that perhaps his own burns were collateral damage.

Priya stood to the side of Kara in silence, allowing the business magnate to come to her own conclusions before adding anything of her own. She assumed that Kara would know she was lying, but she also assumed that Kara would trust it was for a good reason once she figured that out. Kara’s intelligence was near legendary, and so far there had been very little that the one armed woman hadn’t been able to deduce simply through raw intellect and observation. Priya could see the gears turning in Kara’s mind however, and she wondered just how much she would be able to see now.

Priya didn’t have to wonder for long as Kara turned to her directly and asked a simple “What did you see?” Priya noted that she hadn’t asked ‘What happened?’, and it was the specific question that let her know that Kara was willing to play along for the time being. Clearing her throat gently, Priya walked closer to Kara and spoke softly. “Not much unfortunately. By the time I arrived it was over. I was giving him space, he was making friends - or so I thought.” Priya looked down at the two bodies and continued speaking, though now her voice held an air of sadness. “Not so friendly it seems though. I’m so sorry Kara, I thought things were getting better. . . I really did.”

Kara sighed and extended her metal arm to place a comforting hand on Priya’s shoulder. Kara had learned to keep her heart in check after Damien, she had opened up to exactly one person, and was more than smart enough to never make that mistake again. She was saddened at the loss of life, lost opportunities and plans that would never come to fruition. But people died. That was the way of things, there was no use getting too attached to things that were destined to die. “I don’t blame you, Priya. You were here to observe, and mainly to keep tabs on his mental health. I never expected you to jump in and stop a fight. His gear?” Priya shook her head. “Gone by the time I reached him. I don’t know where it went, probably scavenged.” Kara just nodded in understanding. It made sense, his gear was of the finest quality and anyone not wealthy enough to afford their own, skilled enough to create it or strong enough to take it by force would be idiotic to not take the items. She couldn’t even begrudge the mysterious scavenger, it was an intelligent choice, and intelligence was amongst the only things that Kara respected.

“Time to return to Darhkvale then. I assume you’ll be coming with me?” Kara had knelt and removed the FTG seal from Tamwyn’s torso, and was in the process of removing the Twin Seal when she asked her question. “Actually, no. Not right away. I need to return to the Land of Honey and secure your investments.” Kara nodded again as she finished removing the Twin Seal from Tamwyn and herself, then stood and approached Priya, placing the Twin Seal behind Priya’s ear, and placing the twin behind her own ear. “You know how to use it, when you need me just activate it and I’ll arrive.” Kara didn’t look back at Priya as she placed her organic hand on Doku, who also held a hand on each body. She then winked out of existence once more, arriving in her office in Darhkvale.
