Revelations 12: The Attack

Continuing her fight against the beasts, Kanara grew more worried by the minute. She hadnt seen yuichi since he took off with sereval of the beasts behind him. THoughts raced throuh Kanaras head as she thought about the chance that they caught up to him. After all she saw allready what those bests could do with a single swipe. Shaking her head slightly she concentrated at the fight again.

Seeing as she earlier saw him fighting and he was able to hold his own back then, he likely wouldbe be caught. Especially with his speed. And even if he got caught, she couldnt leave those people here alone. They needed her after all, and she would fight for their survival.

Shouting to the civilians: "You guys good there!?" she took a look at them as she evaded yet another huge hand with razor sharp claws. What she saw both made her happy and surprised her. The faces of the people werent showing fear any longer, but anger instead.

The civilians, seemingly growing tired of getting slaughtered even managed to make some kind of crude spear wall. Most of the people were standing side by side, holding either sharp, long sticks, or literally anything with a bit of reach and a pointy edge. While a single of the makeshift spears was not enough to kill the beasts, sereval dozen were able to do so. If the situation wasnt so grimm, Kanara would have even smiled. However for the time being she had to resort to pulling her lips up slightly as she fought on. Her muscles were slightly burning from the work she had to do, and she was sweating profusely. Kanara was in no way unfit, but then again, fighting and running for an hour at her speed was something else, especially if someone had to evade the ferocious beasts.

He charged right through the crowd, dodging a xenobeast tail by the skin of his teeth and turned around to face the crowd once more. He knew that more had started to climb the rooftops to investigate the sound that he had created, and now he was surrounded by xenobeast as he continued to form hand signs. He took one more deep breath.

He created an enormous gust of wind, strong enough to send shingles flying off of the rooftops and pushing ten to fifteen xenobeasts around forty feet back, where many of them toppled off the side of the HE. He hoped to find them, alive, later, so he could perform some experiments on them, and he did not have the skill or tools to capture them now. Any that were on the HE were probably going to die, but he was willing to bet that somebody made it off of the city with some blood on them, and they would transform and potentially infect people. In the days and weeks after the escape, several things would be necessary, including a follow up on everybody who survived the attack. He was sure that somebody else realized this because there were plenty of people smarter than him in the world.

However, looking over the edge, it would seem that the fall killed them, as more than ten xenobeast bodies floated about the lake. That was a shame. He had hoped they could be saved. He teared up a little.

During his period of contemplation, all of the xenobeasts that he did not accidentally kill started to prowl around menacingly behind him. For a moment, it seemed to know that he was ready for it. It really was too bad that he couldn't capture them. He was still entirely opposed to killing them. He put himself in this position with an exit strategy, though.

Jutsu:

Seeing as Yuichi still hasnt returned, the chances of his survival, that Kanara estimated in her head grew lower and lower. Sighing she sumped back as another large group of the beasts formed in the back of the street. Leaving the civilians to fend for themselfes for now, Kanara performed a series of handseals and got ready to unleash her fireballs.

Kneading the chakra inside her body, she brought forth sereval perfect shaped fireballs. As they burnt bringht, almost like flares and flew in the direction of the enemy, she guided them with her chakra into the beasts. Grinning she noticed how good she has gotten with the phoenix sage flower jutsu. It wasnt surprising for her though, being an Uchiha from Konoha the fire was supposed to be in her blood after all, and fire, being the uchihas favourite element and something that most uchiha that were shinobi posessed, was natural for her too.

Instead of bringing the fight to the disoriented group of xeno beasts however, she now stood still again and readied another set of hand seals. After all she had enough reserves for this and the bests simply got oo many for her to handle in time, before they could reach the civilians, which in return were only able to fend a few of the beasts off in a specific time.

Looking at the civilians specificly, they saw that they were done with the lone xeno beast Kanara had left to to fight with. They were doing well and taking a break now. THey earned it. THey were forced into this situation and still managed to survive somehome.

Bringing her attention to the xeno beasts again, she was hoping for Yuichi to return soon. After all her chakra was finite too.

Even with all of these xenobeast around him, escape would be easy enough with his speed and the sharingan. At least in theory, but of course, this was when Yuichi heard screaming. I seemed as if some of the beasts that he had drawn here found another target. So, Yuichi sought out the source, hoping to grab the person and flee. He discovered that the noise was coming from a rather large apartment building, so he heroically smashed through the window with the intention to grab a person and run.

What he witnessed was a xenobeast ripping a man apart in front of him, as some people cowered in horror on the other side. Yuichi could see that there was three of them, two of whom were children.

The xenobeast didn't notice Yuichi until one of the children pointed at him, and the xenobeast turned as if it understood the gesture. It turned completely around to face Yuichi, who instinctively drew his Kunai. For a moment, he felt pity for this beast, but looking at this one, covered in the blood of somebody it had killed brutally, he knew he was out of options. He would have to put aside his remorse for these things and kill every one of them that tried to hurt this family.

He let his chakra flow through his arm and into his weapon. Wind chakra surrounded it, extending the blade and increasing its cutting power. By the time the xenobeast began its pouncing attack, it was already dead, and another climbed through the window behind Yuichi. It attempted to slash at him with its tail, but Yuichi's enhanced weapon cut its tail clean off, and its head was next, just barely hitting it so its jaw separated from its head as it reeled back, making all kinds of horrible noises. Yuichi ended its misery with a once more swing at the beast's throat.

He escorted the family out of the building in this fashion, slicing through xenobeast after xenobeast while wondering though endless hallways, until eventually they stopped coming and the family safely got out of the building. When they finally reached the group of people that Yuichi had left behind, the oldest one among the group, who was probably around Yuichi's age, called out to his as he searched for Kanara. "Thank you, miss, you really live up to the Uchiha reputation."

He couldn't think of a response, so he left in silence as he saw the streets light up with fire. He knew he found Kanara. He made his way over to her. She was busy taking on a number of Xenobeasts, so Yuichi dropped in from behind and cut down a xenobeast that looked like it was trying to be sneaky. He was quite sad as he watched the realization in its face that it was about to die.

As the flames from her earlier phoenix sage fire fireballs burned a few of the beasts as they were dying, more rushed over the fallen bodies of thier species. Hesitantly they stopped as they saw tha fire that blocked their path though they finally decided to jump through the fire. Kanara could easily see why they hated or even feared the fire. Theri bodies, although only having contact with the fire for two or three seconds they had formed blisters nearly immediately and mayn were badly damaged. It seemed like they had a weakness to fire, however this knowledge was of no use to Kanara, as she needed to keep her energy reserves up.

Readiny her dagger she engaged in melee again, picking off enemies she had an easy shot at, rather then killing those that were closes to the civilians. This way she could deal much more damage after all. The civilians, being alterted by the presence of the beasts hurried to get in their defensive positions once more. Taking a peek at them, Kaanra noticed that they had used their time to craft even more makeshift weapons, and now every person was holding something, be it child, women or elderly. If the situation wasnt so bad in general it would have been heartwarming to see all those random and different people unite against a common enemy.

As she was in the midst of the fight she spotted soemthing that brought her morale up again considerably. Coming around the corner was yuichi, the person she was fighting with earlier. He didnt loose time as he got near one of the beasts and took it swiftly down. However soemthing wasnt right. He looked different, even somewhat sad as he stared at the dying montrosity at his feet. Breakin goff the contact for a second she jumped away from the beasts, closer to yuichi, where she asked him:

"Hey there... you look tired... are you ok?"

Kanara didnt look too good either though. She was sweaty and the fight had taken a toll on her stamina. As she waited for an answer she watched the beasts slowly aproach. As thier numbers slowly dereased they seemed to grow more careful in thier aproach, while also angrier. Maybe those beasts were smarter then she anticipated...

"I am fine, thank you for asking," he told Kanara. He was not particularly enthusiastic, and it was easy enough to determine that it was somewhat of a bluff. He was pale, dirty, and more than a bit injured. His head was throbbing. His hair was caked in somebody's blood.

It took only a short time to slay the rest xenobeast's that surrounded them. Even with a little chakra as he had left, he was still perfectly capable of killing many xenobeasts. His fighting was staring to get a bit sloppy, but Kanara was strong enough to make up for the difference. He was still reluctant to kill them. Each kill he made caused his great pain, but it was for the greater good. None the less, after only a short time, he could barely force himself to continue. His legs had begun to get wobbly.

He had been waiting for the airship's arrival, but it was staring to look like he would run out of chakra before it would arrive. The waves upon waves of xenobeasts had been effectively reduced to the point where much of their threat had been taken away, and a huge number of HE residents managed to flee the city since he had last checked. Knowing that he had done nearly every he reasonably could, he informed Kanara of his intent and then escorted many people out of the city, finally leaving this nightmare.

Seeing as yuichi planned to retreat finally Kanara decided to join him. After all he was right. Both their chakra reserves were lower then she liked them to be and aside form that this position was a lost cause anyways. For the moment the bests werent attacking, however this could likely only mean that they were reforming to attack en force.

Strolling behind the strange shinobi she took the realguard as she went over to the hiding place where she hid the injured girl earlier. Despite the bloodloss and the shock she had earlier, she was alive, if uncontious. Taking her up she strolled behind the "caravan of people that went in the direction of the airship.

Watching the people she could only hope for th eship to be there or at least arrive soon so they could get off of this damn floating rock and she could take a shower. Even the air up there felt dirty as the smell of iron on something acidic was in the air, a constant reminder of the massacre this city had to endure.

"Oh...well this wasn't part of the bargain."

Merryweather watched with disappointment as the Indaina Kujira was felled by the appearance of some giant chimera of a Bijuu. She had no idea what that thing was, but it had just taken out the Society's ace-in-the hole. To make matters worse, they could not use the Emporium itself as a guided missile to crash into a population center. The city's piloting team had locked the controls in such a way that its present course could not be altered. It was due to crash into the Kaizoku Sea no matter what the Society's saboteurs did. All of that hard work down the drain. Merryweather hoped that wherever he was, the Water Disciple had a back-up plan. If not, then his organization was well and truly fucked. The inevitable fallout of such a failure would impact her daughter, but that was her mess to clean up. She had rejected her offer and had instead chosen to stay by the fanatic's side. What happened next was of no concern to the arms-dealer. Merryweather had held up her end of the deal and she'd ensure that she got her due.

The remaining allies of the Society were now scrambling out of the control room, either through escape hatches or Space-Time Ninjutsu. They were abandoning this falling city and with good reason. The back-up gravity generators were failing and with the collapse of the Indaina Kujira, the city was now hurtling into the ocean. They had lost the battle and now it was time to cut and run. Merryweather opened a portal via Yomotsu Hirasaka and motioned her daughter over. The pair entered the dark window into another dimension and sealed it shut behind them. Not a moment after the gateway was closed, did the city crash into ocean. It would have sank but not for the excess gravitational radiation that had poisoned firmament's soil. The ruins of the Heavenly Emporium would float forevermore as a psuedo-island. A testament to the valor and cruelty that had been inspired by Hagoromo's Gift. In the hours after the impact, the last of the Xenobeasts would be killed but a select few might have scampered off to safer pastures. Once the enemies had been cleared out, an unsettling silence would fall over the smoking metropolis.

The War in Heaven had been won, but not without tremendous cost.
