Pulling Weeds [D-rank]

If Katsumi was thinking what Shin thought he was thinking, then they were on the same wavelength. Shin was wondering why the village did not simply hire farmers to actually… farm and not have their shinobi doing these tasks. Sure, a majority of these tasks were meant for genin, which they technically were, but there was only so much of this that Shin could handle. At this point, with the amount of time Shin spent out on this particular field, he was better off retiring in his short-lived career as a shinobi and instead pursuing a career as a farmer. Perhaps it would be far more beneficial financially to become a farmer full-time, but that was not something that would help Shin pursue his goals. Shin would begin to function on auto-pilot, starting at one corner of the garden and pulling out the weeds around the first pant before he would be moving on to the next one. Much like the previous times Shin and Katsumi and had visited the farm, Shin would just let his body get to work automatically, moving from one plant to the next, removing the weeds in a systematic manner. What felt like ages, though only really was a few minutes, would have Shin eventually voice his aversion for the task at hand. “You know… we might as well be farmers at this point.” A moment would pass, and Shin had a feeling he had said something similar the last time they were here, yet he wasn’t entirely sure. “I feel like I’ve said that before.”

Shin would only heave out an exhausted sigh at Katsumi’s confirmation that they have likely said the same sentiment that last time they were here. The only positive to this situation was that, if Shin truly wanted to, he could manage the garden at his home instead of leaving it to be done by workers who had been hired by his clan to come in regularly. While it wasn’t something Shin was overly concerned with, perhaps it could be a potential way to utilize his free time in the future, however unlikely it was to actually happen. Shin still felt he was barely taking care of himself, properly, even now, so taking care of a garden would not be on the menu when it came to Shin’s near future. Regardless, Shin would continue with the process of removing weeds from the pants and stuffing them in one of the many bags that they had to stuff the weeds with. While Shin prided himself on completing tasks that were set forth before him, this was one he could easily walk away from and have no regrets, but he had already spent far too much time on this land, so he may as well finish the job. Time would tick by meticulously slowly, Shin still wishing he was elsewhere, yet he did nothing to change that fact. Eventually, the time would come where they would officially be done with their work for the day, and Shin never wanted to be on a farm for the foreseeable future.
