Strengthening one's skills

Yomi was thinking hard about her current skill set, with the shop and thus Reiner able to take over the more basic task of managing the place and if necessary even replicating Yomi's work, she set off in the backyard of the shop to try and hone her skills in regards to her engineering. She did like to work with the various intricate workings of mechanics and miticulous physics of certain things. After all it seemed a logical step for someone with her keen intellect.

Thus in her spare time, she started working on making her more basic tool sets, which she hoped to be able to distribute among certain fellow craftsmen with which she could bond and who knew, perhaps form alliances and partnerships to better suit her own needs.

With the work done on her more basic tool sets in a much faster time than it would've taken her to do so prior to having had her own proper assortiment of tools to create and craft her unique trinkets and items, Yomi decided to step her game up by not just creating a bunch of regular average quality tool sets, but to actually set out to create a more potent and even more usefull array of tools in the form of a high quality tool set. It was a good thing she had bought herself so many extra useful components to her shop to actually have a proper workshop to work at now.

So, now she set out to try and build an even better Tool set to in turn be able to create even greater goods in even lesser amounts of precious time that could be used for other more important duties she had. All she had to do to get to the point of actually being able to build said better tool set though, was to perfect her craft even more by building the average tool sets yet again and hope that she'd be able to perhaps sell them to willing buyers.

UA's and Tools:

Rush Job: After spending years making armor Yomi know's how to get the job done quickly. When selectively using this ability, the time she spends crafting something is cut in half [rounds down if ending in a decimal], in exchange for her Coordination losing a tier limiting what she could apply this feature to.

At long last, Yomi had managed to make up another two Tool sets of average quality, ending up with enough of those to perhaps sell to other crafters or to appease some customers to use them as bonus items for any purchase, it was a nifty idea to have them at hand though, but those toolsets would only be her way to finally be experienced enough with the mechanical tinkering and engineering to create even better quality items.

It is with this newfound expertise that she begun her new work and next best masterpiece, the Toolset of not average, but high quality, which would no doubt aid her in future endeavours and further projects, of that she was pretty sure.

Engineering Rank up to B

Having finally finished her more intricate and higher quality set of crafting tools, Yomi found out that perhaps now she'd better get back to her more accessible crafts in the form of the usual armors she'd be making for herself, but as business was rather calm for herself and her store's clerk was more than capable of making or remaking most of her concocted crafts and creations, she seemingly had enough time on her hands to further advance in her specialty of making armors. Yet rather than forcing herself to craft something entirely new from scratch, the jounin thought it best to revisit some of the classics first, by remaking and thus crafting another Kirigakure specialist set, determined not to stop until she could make the whole set with her eyes closed.

With the armor done, it was time to properly continue creating other parts of her set, with now the boots to be the next part of her most recognisable set to be made yet again by Yomi's steady hands. Ofcourse she had more feeling and more experience with this particular set now and with her eagerness to test her newly made toolsets, she flung herself into her work like any true craftsman would.

With the boots finally done, it was about time to start making the gloves of the set to really get some experience into her hands and mind. The more she'd handcraft her own stuff, the more she'd get adapt at it after all, even if she had a rather good assistant, she still thought making her own stuff by hand was the way to truly emphasize the quality and skill that went into the creations of her mind.

It didn't take long for Yomi to finish off the gloves needed for her set of armor, it was actually rather surprising that it took her such little effort and time to fully craft the gloves, making it more and more apparent that she was truly getting the hang of crafting these particular items. So without even taking so much as a break, she started taking a new hide of leather to start making the pants of this particular set of armor.

Zurui made it to the back of the store, where the workshop is. Right away, he could hear the bustling of somebody at work. The first glance around the corner revealed Yomi hard at work on a leather material. Zurui, unskilled in the art of crafting, was unable to determine what that leather was being fashioned into, but a look around at what had already been made - the boots, gloves, and shirt- told him that it was likely to be a pair of pants.

"Halcyon Yomi, I take it." Zurui chimed in above the noise. Thankfully, she wasn't working with metal; he disliked yelling. Some people might have made comments about the workmanship, the way the pants were being made, something to show similar interests and build rapport while exhibiting above average intelligence, but Zurui didn't particularly feel like playing the game of people right now. A glimpse into a single aspect of another's life is all he sought.

With a sigh, the jounin looked up from her work, beads of sweat visible on her brow and mixed into a film upon her skin mixed with the grease and oil of the workshop's inner sanctum. The woman heard the gate to the backyard open, yet did not stop or pauze in her work, calmly cutting the leather she was working with, beathing it ever so often to keep the insulation she had placed within two layers of cloth and leather in its place. "That is indeed me," The Jounin looked up when hearing her name being spoken, finally taking that short moment of respite. Putting aside her work, she got up to both feet, slapped her hands together a few times and held out her right hand to grant the man a proper welcome. "I reckon Reiner sent you out back, so that means you intended to talk to me from the get go."

Walking over to a small basin, the woman twisted a metal knob near a pipe and after a bit of rumbling, fresh and cold water came pouring out of the pipe into the small basin. Splashing a bit of water in her face and hanging her hair into the water for a few seconds, Yomi grabbed a towel, did a quick dry on her long black hair and rested the towel around her neck as she faced Zurui again. "There's only two reasons why someone like you would be hear, Zurui. Either you need my power or you need my skills and given the time and place you've come to me, I can safely guess it's the latter, correct?" Grabbing herself a stool, the woman sat down and crossed her legs, resting her face upon the palm of her right hand as the elbow of her right arm balanced upon one of her knees. Looking up from her position, she simply smiled gently and seriously uncharacteristically for the one known as the Rogue of the Mist or worse yet 'Kirigakure's Monster'. "So, since I don't like to beat around the bushes, do indulge me and cut to the chase, will you?"

It seemed Zurui wasn't the only one that wished to forego the game. Small talk was only ever useful when manipulating or binding with people and such nuances were unnecessary in this case. He could appreciate that Yomi felt the same.

"Indeed. I've seen some impressive wares inside, but I'm looking for something a little more...specific. I gather from Reiner that you take custom orders. How intricate can these orders be? Armor hard as steel yet flexible as cloth? Blades light and forever sharp?"

He'd need to assess the extent of her crafting ability for what came next. It was going to be a tough sell, he figured, and he didn't want to waste time on something that wouldn't pan out anyway. This way, he'd have another out if it turned south, all the while seeing firsthand what it was like for a person to run their own store. It looked fun, but so far, not something he'd be interested in, personally.

"A little more specific, hmm?" Placing a finger against her lips, Yomi was thinking as she heard the Jounin mention what he was meaning with the term specific, seeking armor supple and flexible as cloth, but sturdy as steel. In a sense, she knew she could manage something like that if she would pose the question to the owner of the chemist store nearby in order to get the perfect material, but when the man also mentioned swords forever sharp, while her shop should've shown the obvious fact that she wasn't a weaponcrafter, she finally knew what he was hinting at: the other way to achieve things thought to be near impossible by standard means of crafting."So guessing by the question you're posing, you're probably wondering wether or not I have the ability to enchant any and all items as I see fit to the degree and standard a customer would want their item to be..."

Figuring out that this man most likely was trying to sell his own expertise in the art of sealing, the jounin laughed and got up, turning towards a shoddy looking wooden desk with a single drawer, which she pulled open and started rummaging through until she took out a large scroll and rolled it open on the desk. It showed schematics of an intricately designed armor with various, strange implementations and attachments. "I myself am perfectly capable of enchanting stuff at my leisure. However, you yourself offering your services as an enchanter would nevertheless be an interesting thing. If you wish to make a deal of some sorts though, it is best to provide some works of your own as well...I will pay handsomely for all who can provide me scrolls with particular enchantments on them."

"An intelligent assumption. You're close. While I'm not opposed to exchanging enchantments with you, my interest lies in recruiting you for a certain organization." Zurui said as he eyed the contents of the scroll. He hadn't even made eye contact with Yomi this time he spoke, so that it created a disembodied feel within her subconscious to emphasize the mystery of this secret group of people.

"I've not been permitted to speak with much detail. However, your skillset is in line with a position that they need filled. As a crafter with Fuuinjutsu and a high level of intellect, you're only a few steps away from fulfilling all of their requirements. It seems that weapons crafting is all you lack." The Jounin stepped away, putting some space between he and Yomi as he looked her in the eye and gave the explanation. This would put her at ease, make her more comfortable with the offer, more easily able to decline it and, because of that, more likely to accept.

"Well? Would you like to learn more?"

Yomi looked at the man, tilting her head to the side and letting out a sigh while she decided to make some more progress on her work again, seeing as just talking wouldn't exactly impede her too much anyway. Talking the nearly finished Kirigakure Specialist Combat pants she was making, the Jounin chuckled when hearing the man talk about some shady organization. Either they had no idea who they were trying to recruit or they were rather arrogant to think they'd have any means of controlling her, they seemed to be foolish either way.

"An organization, lead by secrets, veiled in shadows and laced with lies," Placing the item she was carrying upon a workbench at the side of the workshop, Yomi looked straight at the man and grinned a bit. "If I, kirigakure's most powerful shinobi would be a few steps behind on their desired idea of a member, it means they are either extremely powerful...which I doubt wholeheartedly or they are fools to actually believe they are in the same or a higher league than my own. In this world the strong decide the fate of the weak...So I wonder...by that analogy, do you really think your organization can set any demands towards me?"

Putting the finishing touches to the pants she'd been making by inserting the thin steel plating within the layers of leather and insulation, Yomi sighed, placed the pants with the rest of the stuff she'd been making and grabbed herself a large piece of cloth and a pencil to make the final piece of the set. "As for the idea that Kenjutsu is superior to my taijutsu, you or your organization is always welcome to try out that theory."

Looking up from her cloth, showing a rather inquisitive look before smiling, she finally managed to respond to the man's final question. "I'd be happy to learn more, but I'm affraid you're missing the point. If it comes to crafting and business I am more than happy to work together with people without fully immersing myself in their ideals or desires, much like a private contractor...if it comes to being a shinobi, I only follow those that have earned my respect and who can rival me, not those who hide and skulk from the shadows. Not to mention I care nothing for weaponcrafting as I have no need for weapons to begin with."

Kirigakure's most powerful? Zurui had heard that Yomi was a strong shinobi, but to exceed the power of everyone in the village? It must be blind arrogance, he pondered, but after speaking with her, even for only a short amount of time, he doubted that she was the type to make wild claims. There was certainly something behind her statement, a secret power that was as hidden as Zurui's own. Or perhaps she had a wide variety of items and techniques. Whatever the case, Zurui was interested.

Unfortunately, it wasn't Zurui's personal interests that fueled this conversation. He'd have to focus solely on Yomi's potential with the organization and not on her secret power. At any rate, he'd likely only ever see it if he himself tested her and doing so would reveal his own secret power. That wasn't something that he wanted getting out.

"While I'm sure your power and devotion would be useful, what they seek of you is a smith that is capable of creating a wide assortment of things upon request. If you were ever to learn the art of smithing weapons, you would be their ideal candidate." His hands ran across the armored shirt she'd made prior to his arrival. It looked average at first, but now that he'd seen how the matching pants were made, he knew better than to underestimate anything made by Yomi's hands.

"We will be satisfied with your services as a separate entity, a secret contractor, so long as you keep our business exchanges private. Should you ever desire to engage in an organization of individuals devoted to balancing the power in the world, you have but to contact me." With that, Zurui quickly bowed his head in farewell and made his leave. He was certainly interested in this one and hoped their paths crossed again in the future.

Exit

Letting out a sigh during her completion of the final piece of yet another selfmade armor, Yomi showed just how annoyed she was by the man's insistance on saying that if she knew how to craft weapons, she'd be even better. This of course was against her beliefs, she didn't want to use nor craft weapons, seeing the body she had been born with and had honed through rigorous training and fighting to the only weapon she had ever needed and would ever use. However, having him reaffirm the fact that her desire to remain independant as a contractor was at the very least a relief. After all, she worked best when she was as free as possible, so she could dedicate herself wholeheartedly to her village and her image of it.

For this though, she decided to create something unique, something new to fit with her whole desire to create a perfect armor suited for herself. For now she'd simply craft the gloves she'd envisioned to be making for quite some time.

Finally, after all this time training and growing in experience, Yomi was quite amazed to behold the endresult of her labor. The gloves she had created for her personal use shimmered with strength and quality, even though the jounin was sure that by now she could do much better, it was a perfect showcase for the materials she could work with in the further future. However, as she looked through several shelves of the workbench in the back of her workshop, Yomi managed to get a hold of one of the eggs she had found during her trip to the Lightning Country. With it's mysterious glow it intrigued her back then, but now that she knew how to use fuuinjutsu, it was no longer a mystery and would end up as a useful thing for her further experiments with crafting.
