Was he supposed to be nervous?
He was nervous. If anyone had bothered to ask, but of course no one did as the now 19 year old Calin Kaguya strode through the compound toward the palace in his absolute best attire. A pristine, white and gold trimmed doublet, with black trousers, and black boots. The buttons on the doublet were engraved with small, inconsequential designs. However one could easily see the Kaguya Clan symbol set in right above his heart. The stark red giving it an eye catching aspect that immediately identified where his loyalty lay. His hair was combed neatly, his teeth had been brushed, boots shined, the entire outfit had been pressed and Calin had to admit that he liked the way he looked. Within his arms was a fair sized box, wrapped in green with a gold bow. It was something he had gone out and bought in a bit of a hurry. He’d had to guess the woman’s dress size, although he had seen her around in passing enough over the years to take what he thought was a fair shot. None of it however, mattered in the face of his complete, and absolute nervousness. For Tsubaki had asked him to ‘present himself to her home to escort her on a date.’ It was something that had his heart pounding. She had the entire creme of the crop of the clan to choose from and she had chosen to give him a chance. At least a small one, of impressing her. He felt strongly for the woman, had for the past two years. Ever since his ‘spar’ with Alkaid, the queen’s cousin and another woman Calin has strong feelings for. He had long since decided he wouldn’t pick between the two. Not due to some stupid sexist reason of not wanting them to ‘fight over him’ or something. He wasn’t stupid enough to think that would ever happen.
It was..
It was just, he couldn’t choose. For in his eyes, selecting one over the other was wrong to him. So he simply avoided it ever coming up. Figuring nothing could happen if he didn’t make the first move.
Now’s probably the best time to realize that he was a moron. However it wouldn’t really change anything. He in particular had no issues if either of them made the first move. Particularly since it meant they had an interest in him. He moved toward the palace, the early evening sun slowly setting. She had sent him the invitation yesterday, so he didn’t have as much time to prepare as he would’ve liked. At least, in terms of what they would be doing. He managed to get a reservation for a nice dinner, and he knew a lovely park close to the restaurant that he felt would round out the date nicely. He hoped the woman agreed, although, he supposed he would find out. He arrived at the palace now, stepping up to the guard at the door and giving him a small nod with a smile. “Calin Kaguya to pick up Lady Tsubaki. She’s expecting me.” He would say formally. While in private he knew he could be a bit more casual in how he referred to her, in public and to her direct guards he had to be careful. Lest some kind of scandal crop up. The politics of clans always were rather convoluted. The guard would nod, before turning and entering the palace to announce his presence. Whether or not he would be let in or she would simply come out, he wasn’t sure. Of course, the second guard remained at the door. Watching him carefully. Calin would hold out the dress box and smile knowingly. “Need to search this?” He would ask to which the guard would crack a small smile of his own and nod, taking the box and opening it carefully. It wasn’t taped closed or anything and the individual lid and container were wrapped separately. Allowing it to be opened without ruining the appearance of the box so it could still be presented to it’s recipient as a gift. He had made sure of that, for he wanted to make sure the guards at the palace knew he had no intention of harming the queen. After a moment, the guard passed the box back after closing, nodding satisfactorily. Although Calin was unsure if that was due to the box and gift being safe or due to the man agreeing with Calin’s gift choice.
