Was he supposed to be nervous?

He was nervous. If anyone had bothered to ask, but of course no one did as the now 19 year old Calin Kaguya strode through the compound toward the palace in his absolute best attire. A pristine, white and gold trimmed doublet, with black trousers, and black boots. The buttons on the doublet were engraved with small, inconsequential designs. However one could easily see the Kaguya Clan symbol set in right above his heart. The stark red giving it an eye catching aspect that immediately identified where his loyalty lay. His hair was combed neatly, his teeth had been brushed, boots shined, the entire outfit had been pressed and Calin had to admit that he liked the way he looked. Within his arms was a fair sized box, wrapped in green with a gold bow. It was something he had gone out and bought in a bit of a hurry. He’d had to guess the woman’s dress size, although he had seen her around in passing enough over the years to take what he thought was a fair shot. None of it however, mattered in the face of his complete, and absolute nervousness. For Tsubaki had asked him to ‘present himself to her home to escort her on a date.’ It was something that had his heart pounding. She had the entire creme of the crop of the clan to choose from and she had chosen to give him a chance. At least a small one, of impressing her. He felt strongly for the woman, had for the past two years. Ever since his ‘spar’ with Alkaid, the queen’s cousin and another woman Calin has strong feelings for. He had long since decided he wouldn’t pick between the two. Not due to some stupid sexist reason of not wanting them to ‘fight over him’ or something. He wasn’t stupid enough to think that would ever happen.

    It was..

It was just, he couldn’t choose. For in his eyes, selecting one over the other was wrong to him. So he simply avoided it ever coming up. Figuring nothing could happen if he didn’t make the first move.

Now’s probably the best time to realize that he was a moron. However it wouldn’t really change anything. He in particular had no issues if either of them made the first move. Particularly since it meant they had an interest in him. He moved toward the palace, the early evening sun slowly setting. She had sent him the invitation yesterday, so he didn’t have as much time to prepare as he would’ve liked. At least, in terms of what they would be doing. He managed to get a reservation for a nice dinner, and he knew a lovely park close to the restaurant that he felt would round out the date nicely. He hoped the woman agreed, although, he supposed he would find out. He arrived at the palace now, stepping up to the guard at the door and giving him a small nod with a smile. “Calin Kaguya to pick up Lady Tsubaki. She’s expecting me.” He would say formally. While in private he knew he could be a bit more casual in how he referred to her, in public and to her direct guards he had to be careful. Lest some kind of scandal crop up. The politics of clans always were rather convoluted. The guard would nod, before turning and entering the palace to announce his presence. Whether or not he would be let in or she would simply come out, he wasn’t sure. Of course, the second guard remained at the door. Watching him carefully. Calin would hold out the dress box and smile knowingly. “Need to search this?” He would ask to which the guard would crack a small smile of his own and nod, taking the box and opening it carefully. It wasn’t taped closed or anything and the individual lid and container were wrapped separately. Allowing it to be opened without ruining the appearance of the box so it could still be presented to it’s recipient as a gift. He had made sure of that, for he wanted to make sure the guards at the palace knew he had no intention of harming the queen. After a moment, the guard passed the box back after closing, nodding satisfactorily. Although Calin was unsure if that was due to the box and gift being safe or due to the man agreeing with Calin’s gift choice.

Moonlit Rhapsody (Tsubaki) Empty Re: Moonlit Rhapsody (Tsubaki)

Post by Hana Kaguya Sat Oct 20, 2018 5:34 am

Tsubaki was in her bedchambers sitting at her desk. Candles illuminated the room, the balcony door open, and everything set. For being the evening one would expect the room to be a bit messy. Instead Tsubaki had recently touched up everything. Dusting her room, getting a new set of sheets and blankets, taking out the trash, and all other necessary chores to ensure her room was brand new. Tsubaki was never too encouraged to use the staff of cleaners to do these chores for her. When she lived in her cottage with her parents she frequently helped around the house. The very least she could do is clean her own room. It was also a precaution. Since Alkaid and herself have been 'together' in the shadows she had to be extra careful to essentially cover her own tracks, which in part could also be a valuable lesson as a Shinobi. Bedding had to be washed weekly, the pillows fluffed and replaced more often than usual. Although it was a subtle clue, having another presence in one's bed made the ware on the pillows show, as any amount of pillows would lose their 'fluff' at twice the rate when two people shared them. Tsubaki could never be too careful which in part helped her grow as fast as she did. No longer could she let her guard down anywhere. Not even in her own walls. One could say she was beginning to think like a real ninja.

The the great doors from the levels below her opened, the candle flames flickered immediately catching her attention. He's here. And on time. Tsubaki was already dressed. Her entire outfit of choice was minimal, yet fashionable. And, of course, she did not sacrifice mobility. Tsubaki wore a black, backless skater dress along with a pair of black sandals, these of course being different than the "Shinobi sandals." They were not heavy duty, but instead meant for formal occasions. The rest of her body was the same. Her natural beauty superseded any need for makeup. Her smooth, fair skin, diamond blue eyes, silky white hair, and her ample figure were enough to host the show. She applied a huff of perfume before making her way downstairs causing the guard to turn around when they met on the stairwell.

In a brief moment since the guard turned to retrieve Tsubaki the door opened again revealing the other door guard and the Queen of the Kaguya. She was dressed for the occasion and all ready to go. She wore no jewelry except a decorative ivory pendant. In her hands she held a long, dark green wallet with a golden clasp on the front, the wallet's lanyard already around her wrist. It would be the first time Calin, and most residents who were still awake, would see Tsubaki in this form. She was certainly humble about her title and never relished in the clan's revenue. Today, however, was a special day. Calin was equally dressed as the two young adults would embark on their very first 'date.' Calin was oblivious as to why Tsubaki requested him to take her out. To Calin it was a legitimate request. To Tsubaki this was another test. She has subtly run many tests over the two years they knew each other, Calin making it this far to where Tsubaki could judge he was a good investment.

"I must say I'm quite surprised you showed up." She said with a smug, teeth-bearing smirk on her face as she appraised the man from the five steps she had above him. She could see the boy, internal conflict festering within. Was he thinking about the gift he held in his hands? Or was he having second thoughts over attending in general? Though with his nervousness showing she could at least confirm his intentions were pure. A naive, young man with nothing more to his name. That's what made him a desirable candidate, and Tsubaki's only candidate. "Just don't start sweating...the night has just begun. Is that gift for me?" Stepping down the short staircase she held both of her hands behind her back presenting herself in full to Calin, as well as waiting for the proper response from the boy.

Moonlit Rhapsody (Tsubaki) Empty Re: Moonlit Rhapsody (Tsubaki)

The second guard had returned with Tsubaki, and Calin’s own heart seemed to stop in that moment. In reality however it had increased it’s pace greatly and his eyes widened and he spoke a soft “Beautiful..” as she stopped five steps above him. He would blink in mild confusion as she spoke. Surprised he showed up? Why wouldn’t he have shown up? “When a lady requests your presence, not showing up. At least, without rescheduling, or canceling if the situation calls. Is an outright insult. One I couldn’t begin to consider.” He’d say with a small inclination of his head. It wasn’t about her high clan ranking, the highest within it to be sure. However it was a simple act of manners. He presence was requests for this date. He was in fact, single, and he did in fact, like Tsubaki. Why wouldn’t he have arrived at the appointed time. He had also made arrangements and made sure he was able to pay for the date in the entirety. Although he suspected she had an idea herself of where she wanted to go. One did not usually request a date and not plan it.

He’d smile softly as she commented on ‘not sweating’ and the smile became easier when she asked about the box. “It is indeed, after your invitation I found myself traveling the streets earlier today and saw this in a shop and thought it would look lovely on you during whatever occasion you chose to wear it.” He would say as he took the lid off the box slowly and set the lid under the box. Inside was a beautiful black dress (I am not describing this, there will be a picture in a spoiler below). The box itself was the colour scheme the store’s sign had. “I had to guess on your sizes based on the few times I’d seen you over the years. So I must beg forgiveness if they’re not perfectly accurate. The dressmaker I bought it from assured me you could have someone come by to have it altered for your sizes later on.” He would say, his head bowed in respect as he presented the open box toward the woman. Obviously there’d be no wearing it tonight, and he hadn’t expected her to. Indeed, she looked quite beautiful as she was already. He doubted the dress he got her would even do her justice.

Once she finished her own perusal of the gift he would gently close the box and pass it to the guard nearest him. Unless stopped from doing this of course. However he figured lugging around a box all night would be quite counterproductive. “I hope it’s to your satisfaction. I must say though that you are positively radiant this evening.” He would say as he respectfully set a hand out asking for her own. Should she place it in his he would kiss the back of hers softly before helping her down any remaining stairs. “Might I have the honor and privilege of escorting you this evening?” He would ask, a small smile on his lips as he asked. He figured the answer would be yes. Unless he had seriously fucked up with the gift. However it was always, always, always polite to ask, expected too.

    The dress in this picture:

Tsubaki listened to Calin's response, her smirk not dropping as he did. He's completely clueless...it's kinda cute. Relaxing her facial expression into a smug one she spoke with her eyes closed, down at the naive Kaguya boy. "I just thought you would chicken out." Stepping down from the short staircase and before Calin she presented herself while asking about the gift. He was more than willing to oblige. As the gift was reveal, Tsubaki smiled. "Very extravagant. I will have to try it on later." She was flatter, her cheeks a light hue of pink. Despite this, though, Tsubaki could not argue it was a flawed gift choice for a first date. Perhaps as an anniversary or date in the future after a couple has known each other for quite some time where they would know the smallest details like bust, waist, height, and so on. Tsubaki was unsure how well Calin could deduce from her sizes unless he was smart enough to ask Alkaid beforehand. Nonetheless, the dress was very nice and she intended on keeping it whether she had to go through the chore of getting it resized or not.

She would set it back in the box gently as it folded over itself. Calin would pass it to the guard to ensure it was delivered to her bedchambers. Calin presented his hand, Tsubaki taking it as it was raised for a kiss. Smooth... She could not find any flaw in his actions. They were executed with such confidence, and accurate to what she could expect. "You as well. It looks like you didn't take this 'date' as a casual get-together. Very clever. Now, lead the way. I'm eager to see what you have planned for us this evening." Giving Calin the green light she would willingly follow where Calin planned to them to go.

The young man would nod at her green light and he would step through the door, stopping to hold it open for the pale haired beauty if one of the guards didn’t. At that point he would set a leisurely pace, one meant to take in the night and enjoy the evening. It could after all, merely be a single date. One might as well enjoy it while he could right? Of course a corner of his mind was wondering if this was going to be a similar situation to a couple of years back when Alkaid asked him out on a date. Where really it was simply a ploy to give him information regarding Yanagi. That had been a..fulfilling day to say the least. It was one he often went back and revisited in his mind. However tonight that day was year’s back. Right now the only things that mattered were Tsubaki, and whatever game she might be playing. If a game was being played at all. Calin of course, would always be the gentleman, game or not.

They would walk through the village, a cool evening breeze blowing through the streets as the sun began to finish it’s downward journey. The star’s could begin to be seen if one were to look. However Calin’s attention was settled on two things. The first, being where the hell they were going. After all, not paying attention to where you walked was simply stupid. The other, was Tsubaki. He strode aside her, guiding her gently toward their destination. He had made reservations at a restaurant that he himself had never eaten at. It was a barbecue place that supposedly had great food. It hadn’t started out as requiring a reservation, however over time the place had done well enough that they had upgraded tremendously. Such upgrades caused them to constantly be full up in terms of volume. So the owner had decided to reserve some of the tables. A brilliant move on his part, as it only made the place more popular.

As they walked, he would strike up a bit of a conversation, since walking in silence would simply make everything awkward. “We haven’t seen all that much of one another these passed few years Tsubaki. What have you been up to?” He would ask as they moved through the streets. The restaurant wasn’t too far away. So it should only take them a few minutes walking at a civilians pace.

Moonlit Rhapsody (Tsubaki) Empty Re: Moonlit Rhapsody (Tsubaki)

Post by Hana Kaguya Tue Nov 06, 2018 3:24 am

Calin guided her down the rest of the stairs, the two making out of palace sight being locked in each other's arm. The clan district at night was perhaps the safest place in the city. The walls ensured only Kaguya were allowed inside. The homogeneous community was key. Almost everybody knew each other, or at least heard of them and their family. There was little infighting, except when it came to politics. Otherwise the clan was harmonious. With not outside enemies there was no reason for outsiders to cause them any trouble. Because of this, the clan district was clean and refined. As dusk rolled in the streets were beginning to settle down. Walking on the stone brick sidewalk towards the inside of the curb the couple only managed to come across small groups or individuals passing by. Most of them were making their way home or grabbing a bite somewhere.

Calin was quick to start up some small talk to pass time. I have to give him props for trying. Better than some of the first date stories I hear. Tsubaki slid her arm down to be parallel with Calin's as she attempted to lock hands with his. "As you imagine, I've been quite busy. I didn't expect so much management to go into running a clan district. Knowing that the Mizukage manages an entire city makes me wonder how he manages to live a fruitful life. Especially for people that aren't your kin. I wouldn't have a care in the world.

They entered the approximate area of the bazaar where most of the vendors were. The smell of cooked meats raided the air as they approached. Tsubaki would be lying if she said she wasn't famished. Her breakfast was lighter than usual, and for lunch all she had was leftover candy from Halloween. All in all she lacked a solid meal for the day. He better not order me a salad... Tsubaki was not a fan of any trad diets or cutting meals out of the day. Food was perfectly fine as long as it wasn't too fatty, fried, preserved, and artificial. A dedicated workout routine kept her metabolism up, as well as avoiding foods that are directly harmful to her health. She figured she could eat as much as Calin, and perhaps even more considering how underfed she was today. "I hope you haven't been neglecting your own training since I'm not around to hold your hand through it." She said, a bit ironic considering their situation.

Moonlit Rhapsody (Tsubaki) Empty Re: Moonlit Rhapsody (Tsubaki)

Post by Peragus Sat Nov 10, 2018 4:38 pm

Calin would listen intently to her answer, locking his hand with hers as she moved to do so. Listening to the woman answer his question with thoughts of her own on the matter he would give a thoughtful look as they moved into the bazaar. The restaurant they were going to was just on the other side of it, however they did have some time before they got there. “Of course I haven’t.” He began with a small smile. “The majority of my time these days is spent training. I use a bit to keep in the ‘know’ about things politically, but otherwise I’m pushing my body as hard as I can. I’ve made some strides since we last spent some time together Tsubaki. I might not be able to keep up with you and Alkaid quite yet, but don’t worry. I’ll get there before you realize.” He’d say with a small predatory smirk. It’d fall some his face after a moment, a contemplative look on his features now. He disliked that smirk, it always made him feel like some battle hungry psychopath. However he was a competitive individual. So it was at least understandable that he relished an obstacle in front of him for him to overcome. When it came to their clan arts and general strength in combat. The two main obstacles were Tsubaki and Alkaid themselves. He would never feel like he was strong enough if he could not stand on even ground with them.

“About your comment about the Mizukage though.” He would say, continuing his thoughts. “I suppose it depends on how one defines ‘kin’.” He would respond with a mild shrug. “We see our family as everything to us, would die defending them. Even those we don’t particularly like have this ingrained aspect to their personalities. Because we’re family, and despite not getting along at times. We’re still just that, family. Mizukage-Sama has to think of the whole village as his family. Actually, I’d say thinking that way might just be a requirement for the position.” He’d give his thoughts on the matter as they approached the restaurant. “Please, allow me.” He would say, unclasping her hand before moving toward the door and holding it open for her. Once she was inside he himself would enter, following behind her. Just inside the door was a podium with a uniformed employee standing behind it. He’d nod his head politely before speaking. “Reservation for two, under the name Calin Kaguya.” He would say to the prompt response of the young woman as she quickly surveyed her list, nodded, and showed them into the dining area.

They were shown to a table in a corner of the restaurant, not away from other patrons but allowing them some small illusion of privacy. A medium sized grill sat on the table, set off the side of the top surface so as to be as out of the way of the diner’s meals as possible. The grill was attached to the table itself so it couldn’t accidentally be knocked off if one had too much to drink. Calin would move toward the table, and politely pull out a chair for Tsubaki. Should she accept as he push it in as she sat down. It was a custom that one normally didn’t use. Mainly because usually there was a waiter of some kind who did it as part of their service. However there was no waiter at the moment. So of course, the Kaguya would take it upon himself. He had pulled the set that faced the window, and he himself would take the seat that faced the exit. It would give her the view of the outside, which, with the moon, spotty cloud cover, and stars. Should make for quite the view.

If she took her seat he himself would sit down at his seat and give her a small smile. “I hope you’ll forgive me if I refrain from ordering for you. I find such things rude if it hasn’t been discussed in advance.” he’d say with a small shrug of apology. That was one thing he would never do, he wasn’t a mind reader. He didn’t know what she would want to eat or how hungry she was. He himself was famished, he had light breakfast, but ended up skipping lunch due to sparring with Tatsuya. The same Kaguya he had met years ago during the training session with Alkaid and Tsubaki. The two had become somewhat rival/friends over the years. Tatsuya always being a bit behind Calin. It was healthy for both of their growth. However, that was beside the point.

“Good evening sir and madame.” A waitress in a similar uniform to the woman at the door would say as she came to the table. “I’m Shizuka, you’re waitress." She would say as she slid two menu’s out from her sash and gave one to each of them. “I’ll give you a few minutes to choose, but would like anything to drink to start?” she would politely, pen and pad never leaving her sash. Calin would defer to Tsubaki to order first, it was only polite after all. To which he would respond “Water, please.” He would say simply with a polite smile to which the waitress would nod “I’ll be back in a minute with your drinks.” She would say before turning and heading toward the kitchen. Calin would take a few moments to peruse the menu, considering the options for the vegetable and met sets. “Any thoughts?” He’d ask his date politely. The time for general small talk was for when they had ordered and the meal was on the way. As well as during the meal if one was polite about it. The menu had just about everything one could want from a Yakiniku restaurant. He close to choosing his own order, a custom order of meats and vegetables. However allowing the lady to order first was important.

Moonlit Rhapsody (Tsubaki) Empty Re: Moonlit Rhapsody (Tsubaki)

Post by Hana Kaguya Sun Nov 11, 2018 7:39 am

Calin was quick to reply to her question first, rather than her response. She could speculate was he nervous feeling the need to defend himself after what she said. Though there was some truth in what he said. His physique was something Tsubaki would tell at first glance. He was certainly a little more muscular than when she first saw him. Perhaps no means vascular and shredded, but he had a firm grip and good definition on his chest and abdomen. Just feeling his body against hers she could gauge this. An almost mischievous chuckle worked up behind her closed lips as she smirked in self-satisfaction, eyes closed as she was guided by Calin's arm for a moment. Keep up with me? You are real adorable, you know?" Tsubaki said, casually throwing her hip into Calin's to playfully nudge him. Though...I will have to test you sometime in the future. For all I know, you could have passed me already, Calin...

Tsubaki listened as he made his remark against what she said regarding Takeo and his position. She was having a good time being able to talk to someone casually about life and politics. Calin was capable of holding a decent conversation, something that was oddly hard to come by nowadays. It seemed most of her day's worth of talking was done with too much formality, discussing plan business. It was nice to let loose and be a young woman again. No matter how much formality she was taught and trained in, there was no overpowering nature.

Before Tsubaki could give a rather brash response they both approach the restaurant he had in mind. It was no doubt the smell of smoke and meat was coming from this place. Tsubaki did not eat out much, but has considered this place before. "Barbecue, hm? You're not as square as you make yourself out to be." She said, teasingly as they entered the establishment, the warmth embracing their bodies from the chilly evening stroll. Taking in a slowly inhale through her nostrils she was certainly welcomed by the pleasant smells in the area. And having such a handsome man in her arms made the dining experience so much more delightful. They were guided to their reserved table, in which Tsubaki was offered a seat from none other than Calin himself before he seated.

Being placed before the grill she was well rehearsed in how to cook with one. She never had barbecue like this before, but she often worked with small appliances such as this when cooking on her own time. It was a propane grill, which mean a turn of the nob lit the gasses. She turned the heat to "4" which was slightly below medium. She wanted to give the grill time to preheat thoroughly. Shortly after lighting the grill a woman presented herself with two menus at hand, setting them both before the couple. Tsubaki instinctively grabbed one and opened it, her eyes working fast to review all the menu items while she spoke. By the time she raised the subject of drinks, Tsubaki set her menu on the table displayed for all to see. "I actually think we're ready to order now. We will have the 'Shogun Party Platter.' " Tsubaki said, pointing her finger on the menu showing the waitress what she wanted, the price of said platter being one-thousand five-hundred ryo (equivalent to one-hundred fifty U.S. dollars.)

The Shogun Party Platter was one meant to feed a party of four or five, and being one of the most expensive platters came with the most expensive fish and meat cuts, as well as the largest variety of sauces. This came with the usual ready-to-grill vegetables, garden salad, kimchi, pickled vegetables, and the requisite miso soup and steamed white rice. Folding the menu over she picked it up with both hands, offering it to their waitress. "Oh, and a water will be fine." Assuming Calin had no objections, he ordered a water as well. Tsubaki would normally drink tea for its nutritional benefits over plain water, but barbecue wasn't a dish one could truly enjoy tea with. It was one to be had with beer or sake, both alcoholic beverages she did not fancy. Thus, water was the next best thing. As the waitress departed, Calin ask her how she felt. She folded her arms on the table resting her bosom on top of them as she leaned forwards to Calin in order to engage in conversation more directly. "It is a fun date idea, I'll admit. Watch: maybe you will learn something from the culinary master!" Tsubaki said, pointing her chopsticks at Calin singing her own praises for her cooking ability. It was perhaps one of her hobbies she took the most pride in.

Moonlit Rhapsody (Tsubaki) Empty Re: Moonlit Rhapsody (Tsubaki)

Post by Peragus Tue Nov 13, 2018 4:42 am

Tsubaki’s jab with her hip would bring a smile and a chuckle to the male as they moved toward the restaurant. “You had me accompany you tonight for some reason right?” He’d say to her 'adorable' comment with an innocent air about him that did nothing to fool anyone about his joking demeanor. He honestly wasn’t quite sure if she had asked him out as an actual date or if there still wasn’t some kind of ulterior motive behind the entire thing. Everything would continue on until her comment about his choice of their cuisine. “Wait, I make myself out to be square?” He’d ask her, his eyes blinking confusedly for a couple of moments before he’d grin in good humour. He was fully aware that he tended to sound like a broken record between his ‘political schooling, and one track mind in terms of training’ He must sound rather boring to anyone who took the time to listen. However he did have ground he needed to cover. “Well I’m glad to have thus far met my queen’s lofty expectations.” He’d say, in tones that left nothing to the imagination on if he was poking fun or not.

When it comes to the ordering she’d surprise him by being ready to order already. His eyes would come up as she ordered, listening to her intently and nodding in agreement with the order. He had seen the price, but it wasn’t an issue at all, and it was what she wanted, which was what truly mattered. Besides, he was friggin starving. “I wouldn’t be surprised if we wanted dessert too if I’m being honest. I in particular am fairly hungry.” He’d tell the waitress with a sheepish grin as she walked away shaking her head exasperatedly. At this point she’d make her claim about him learning a thing or two and her ‘culinary mastery’. An amused smile would touch his lips as she pointed her chopsticks at him for emphasis. “How about you wait for the food to get here before making claims about your culinary mastery eh milady? After all, it isn’t like you won’t have the proper tools to prove it in a few minutes.” He’d respond with a raised eyebrow. He’d steeple his hands on the table, since there wasn’t any food actually on it yet then having his elbows on it shouldn’t be an issue. “Based on your claims though, I assume you take pride in your cooking. I do hope you don’t intend to do all of the grilling tonight. I’d hardly feel proper if I made my beautiful date do all of the work.” He’d say with a small smile. It was neither a grin, nor a smirk. It was simply a small, simply elegant smile. “What’s your favorite thing to cook?” He’d ask, keeping her eye contact as he asked. Even as he noticed Shizuka returning with their drinks from the corner of his eye. He’d break eye contact for a brief moment to look up at the waitress as she set the drinks down. “Your order will be ready in a few minutes, it’s all being cut fresh.” She would say to which Calin would nod “That’s expected of course, thank you for informing us.” He’d reply with a smile before turning his eyes back to Tsubaki and meeting her eyes once more.

Back to his question, he was honestly curious as to what she might enjoy cooking. Or if it was a simple matter of the act itself. He had cultivated a passion in something himself, although it was something he tended to keep under wraps since most people tended to poke fun at him for it. The Kaguya teen had a certain love for gardening, planting flowers, fruits, vegetables, and other such plants. He was good at it too, if the garden in his backyard was any indication. He had taken his mothers cultivating habit and grown it into his own. He even had a few of the same type of white rose he had gifted Alkaid with two years ago.

As their order was being placed, Calin mentioned dessert for the sake of small talk. The mentioning of sweets put a sense of awareness in the Kaguya. Sweet treats were her favorite food, and quite notably a weakness of hers. Ironically, her cousin was the better baker than her giving Alkaid the belt in the better chef regarding her favorite foods. As the waitress left Tsubaki grabbed her chopsticks. They were not the disposable kind, either, speaking some points about the quality of the place compared to most establishments. When Calin spoke her eyebrows immediately furrowed as her face soured. She'd extend her arm further lifting out of her seat slightly in effort to jab Calin in the forehead with the pair of chopsticks. It was not a playful jab, either, as her goal was to cause discomfort and an embarrassing red mark on his forehead. "Why? Do you have doubts? Do you doubt my cooking? Maybe I should under cook your food instead."

Tsubaki said this setting her chopsticks on the table and crossing her arms, looking the other way and in short, getting huffy over his remark. Despite this, she was not entirely flustered over his remark. She did take minor offense over it, though, as cooking was perhaps one of her biggest hobbies. To be honest, I have been cooking since I was four. I helped my mother in the kitchen when I could between practice. Tsubaki was almost a professional at pouting and kept her standoff pose ignoring any and all questions until Calin made an effort to make amends. I don't hate you...but I have to make you pay for doubting my cooking... She fought the urge to blow him a raspberry as that would ruin her guise.

Getting poked in the forehead by a pair of chopsticks is something that he hasn't had happen to him since he was a boy. It was something his mother used to do to admonish him for something rude or stupid. He would wince slightly at the discomfort and the knowing sting of a mark having appeared on his forehead. Then the Queen of The Kaguya would respond to what he thought was simply a pragmatic approach to a claim. Calin would blink in mild confusion for a few moments, his face flushing a bit at this having happened before he simply shrugged. "I apologize, I didn't mean to offend Tsubaki-Chan." He would say, an apologetic look on his features as he spoke, without even realizing he'd used the affectionate suffix. "How about as an apology I'll bring you a homemade treat tomorrow. I do so enjoy myself while baking sweets and pastries." He would say with a small, hopeful expression. He didn't want he to pout anymore, so he hoped an apology would work.

"On a side note, while you're absolutely beautiful at any given moment of any given day. You look absolutely adorable when you pout. I almost felt my heart shatter at the sight." He would say if she accepted his apology. A small, cheeky, grin would adorn his features as he poked his own bit of fun at the woman. After that however he would get a contemplative look on his features before asking "Actually, in speaking of baked goods, what kind do you prefer? Flavor wise I mean. I'd hate to bring you something you didn't like." He would say, the last with another small smile. Off in the distance of the restaurant the door to the kitchen would open and Shizuka would stride out of it with a couple of helpers. They were carrying trays of what must be raw, uncooked food. It looked like their order was arriving, the chefs having finished their work of cutting the meats and vegetables the order required. "It seems our meal is arriving." He would say, right as the indicator light on the grill shut off, showing that the grill was pre-heated and ready to go.

Moonlit Rhapsody (Tsubaki) Empty Re: Moonlit Rhapsody (Tsubaki)

Post by Hana Kaguya Sun Nov 18, 2018 6:31 am

Calin's first attempt at apologizing did not phase her. She remained in her pose keeping her head to the side. However, his second attempt caused the Kaguya to turn her head back at her man, the bitterness on her face being washed away with a relaxed expression. "Do you bake?" She said with an inquiring look on her face. It was out of the ordinary that a male in the clan would take up any sort of culinary profession. It was more common for women to fulfill that roll, with men knowing nothing more than the basics to sustain themselves when the time called for it. Calin did not work as a baker as far as she knew.

Calin made a remark about her pouting still finding her rather attractive. It was then she felt it was appropriate to stick her tongue out at him, followed by her cheeks blushing a slight pink hue. The topic changed to baking, not for Calin's own sake, but asking Tsubaki what her preferred treat was. There were plenty of treats she liked. Generally, the sweeter the better. Traditional Japanese treats like dango and red bean filled pastries were too light. She liked cakes, brownies, cookies, cobblers, and all the over sugary, yet tasty baked goods. Some of her personal favorite treats were those made by Alkaid. She was very skilled in cooking like herself. It was not beyond Alkaid to be proficient at improvising and making her own sweets. Of course they were not well-known, and frankly giving Calin the task might be asking for too much. She did not know how skilled he was so she didn't want to push her request too much.

Tsubaki placed her hand on her chin, stroking it in deep thought as she hummed. "Hmmm. I want an apple strudel. Apples should still be in season. With some raisins and hazel nuts, dusted in powdered sugar and served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream..." Tsubaki nodded being confident in her request, while swallowing quite a bit of saliva that had developed in her mouth shortly after. A subtle rumble came from her stomach along with a bit of embarrassment. Fortunately, the food was coming around the corner. The waitress returned, setting up a temporary folded table to hold the platter she carried before moving the contents of it to their table.

They were each given their rice and miso soup placed before them first. Salads, kimchi, pickled vegetables, and then the items that needed cooking. They were given: beef short ribs, beef tongue, loin, pork belly, chicken thigh, squid, shellfish, and shrimp for their meat choices. Their vegetables included: green pepper, white onion, carrot, mushrooms, bean sprout, cabbage, garlic, and leeks to grill. These were given twelve different sauces to dip from after cooking, and eight different seasonings to use during the cooking process. Tsubaki's eyes scanned from her bowl of miso soup appraising the ingredients. There were certainly generous on the portions. She aimed to knock out the soup and salad first so she could focus on the good stuff. "This is an amazing set up!" She said, setting her empty bowl of miso soup on the table after the servants left. "The grill should be nice and hot. Time to add some real heat..." Tsubaki reached for the knob turning the temperature up to "6" which was slightly above medium.

Adding cold meats were going to lower the temperature. The goal was to keep the grill at medium heat, which was the most manageable. It gave the meats good carmalization without overcooking and making it tough, or searing the outside. Grabbing the long, aluminium pair of chopsticks she moved to dress the grill with the goods. Four shrimps, two pork belly slices, shiitake mushrooms, shimeji mushrooms, cabbage, carrot, and some sliced leeks were the first to go on. The grill would sizzle and their table immediately become fragrant with the cooking meat and vegetables. Her hands grabbed some seasonings and sprinkled them over the pork and shrimp, as well as dusting the cabbage lightly with its own seasoning. As their food began to cook, she picked up her salad and continued with her appetizer. Although the food she had was light so far it was food nonetheless. "Although I don't barbecue often I am proficient in it. My main focus is traditional home cooking. Breakfast is probably my profession. I helped my Mom with breakfast every day since I was four years old. It is the most important meal of the day. Going light on breakfast in asking to weaken yourself mentally, and most importantly, physically."

If his first apology didn’t phase the woman, the offer of a sweet treat did. It even brought an inquiring look from the woman who merely asked him if he could bake. To which he nodded in affirmative. “Fighting, killing, training, politics. I have to have some was to unwind and relax from a battle. Be it with bone, or tongues.” He would respond with a small shrug. “I’ve enjoyed baking for a while. I’m told I’m good too, but I suppose I’ll let you be the judge. I have another hobby that most wouldn’t think I’d enjoy, gardening. I rather enjoy growing flowers, fruits, vegetables. I even learned how to grow my mother’s favorite flower. The White Rose.” He would say with a fond smile. He enjoyed his hobbies quite a bit, so much so that he could talk about them near endlessly with an enthusiasm that could sweep other’s up. Even if they didn’t understand why. He would almost begin to continue when he’d catch himself suddenly. A crimson blush would dust his cheeks as he looked toward the stunning woman sheepishly. “Sorry, I got caught up..Apple Strudel, with raisins, hazelnuts, powdered sugar, and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. I got it, that shouldn’t be difficult. I have everything I need at home already.” He would respond with a smile at the woman. “I’ll bring it by still hot out of the oven with the ice cream tomorrow afternoon. If that’s acceptable to you of course.” He would say with a small smile. This one reached all of his features, it wasn’t the tiny smile of someone being polite, nor the sardonic smirk of sarcasm. It was a genuine smile, that one could easily see in his eyes.

After the spread was laid out for them he would look at everything with his own eye. It certainly did look like a great spread. “Indeed it is.” He would say to her as he set his own empty miso soup bowl on the table. It would appear they were both starving. She would take a few minutes to turn up the grill, and begin setting some of the meats and vegetables on the cooking apparatus. He would wait patiently, not wanting to be rude and eat while she was busy cooking on the grill. She would season the meats and cabbage, and make sure all was well before turning to her salad. In which he would do the same. He would listen intently to her explanation on her cooking skills. Her preferences, and ideals towards the most important meal of the day. The pale haired male would set his chopsticks down, and finish his current bit of salad before responding. “I agree, breakfast is indeed important. One needs the energy and nutrients it provides to get through the rest of the day.” He would say as he contemplated for a moment. “My own experience in cooking is centered on baking. Of course, I can get by on my own, I’d be a poor example of a shinobi if I couldn’t. However I’ve never truly learned how to really cook. I picked up baking from my mother as well as the gardening. Every once in a while I’ll stop by her home and we’ll just bake together for the morning. Then she’ll go around the market and give what we baked to anyone wanting one. No charge either, she simply enjoys spreading the delicious baked goods. While she’d out, I usually tend her garden. She’s a little too old to be sitting on her knees and pulling weeds and such. So I do it for her while she does that. For obvious reasons, my enjoyment of baking is mostly a secret.” He would say, delving a bit into his own past in terms of where his personal hobbies came to be.

After he had explained that he would finish up his salad in a quick, yet polite manner. The smell of the cooking meats and vegetables making him absolutely ravenous. “Well, Tsubaki-chan if your skills in the ways of cooking traditional meals is better than your grilling, then you must be absolutely fantastic. I can hardly wait to eat what you're cooking now.” He would say, a smile of contentment on his features as he looked toward her. He wasn’t staring per say, but he was admiring her a fair bit at this point. He just couldn’t quite get over how lovely she really was. He had long since decided that this wasn’t some kind of information exchange. She genuinely wanted to spend time with him, for reason’s he wasn’t quite sure of. Of course he was absolutely flattered all the same. “Truly, a beautiful woman.” He would say almost to himself, lost in thought, as his admiring actually did cross into the realm of staring. He had effectively gotten lost at the moment, his sapphiracle eyes on her, and nothing but.

Moonlit Rhapsody (Tsubaki) Empty Re: Moonlit Rhapsody (Tsubaki)

Post by Hana Kaguya Wed Nov 21, 2018 5:08 am

Although Calin's hobbies were odd, they were a bit refreshing. He was different from most of the Kaguya men. It appeared the more "masculine" hobbies such as crafting and gambling were not something he interested himself in. Knowing there was a man in the clan that wasn't a complete tool like the others was a rare sight and something she admired in him on a personal level. Baking was a hobby that more or less could be viewed as a practical skill, but gardening was unique in itself. She nodded following along with what Calin had to say appearing interested in what he had to say. "So baking and gardening. I guess they aren't too foreign from each other. Gardening is certainly a very useful skill to have. To be able to tend to soil and the seeds themselves. It has always amazed me how a small, insignificant seed could grow into some phenomenal with some water and proper care. Whether it's food or flowers they serve their purpose." She spoke as Calin chowed on his leafy greens. Tsubaki spoke to him while keeping her eyes fixed on the grill. The shrimp was placed towards the middle where the heat was the greatest. They required the most cooking while the meat was better off eaten rare. They were thin and cooked fast, especially the beef tongue.

With the set of metal chopsticks she flipped the shrimp and pork belly while harassing the vegetables to ensure they cooked evenly. As the meats were flipped they began to shrink as the heat sucked the moisture and cooked the other side. To her surprise, just working the grill was appealing to Calin. So much that he was inclined to compliment and directly this time, too. It was not hidden under an introduction or under a jocular environment. Tsubaki turned her head up to Calin who was caught in a trace. Their sapphire eyes locked as her mouth fell momentarily. His silky white hair, pale skin, azure blue eyes, and dashing features were something she could admittedly stare at. He was the perfection of Kaguya genetic in a male form. His family genealogy did not stray from what was right.

"Oh, shush! You're just hungry is all." She said breaking herself out of the trance, rolling her eyes as she drew them back to the grill. And it was at the right time as everything set was done cooking. "This much is done. So, you get your bowl like this..." Tsubaki grabbed her bowl of rice and her pair of eating chop sticks in the other hand giving Calin a slight tutorial on how to eat yakiniku. "You want to pick what's done off the grill immediately or it will overcook. Stack everything on your bowl of rice first, and then pick what you want from your bowl, dip it in whatever sauce you want, hold it over your rice bowl and let it drain slightly before eating. This way you season you rice with the meat and veggies and whatever sauce runs off from it giving you a little treat at the end." Picking her share off the grill she set her bowl down for the moment adding more raw meats and vegetables to the grill. She would add beef tongue, squid, shimeji, and chicken thigh slices, seasoning them all well before returning to her bowl of rice. She'd grab a shrimp with her chopstick running it through a shoyu sauce before popping the whole thing in her mouth. They were peeled shrimp, yet still had their tails. The tails were hot and charred giving a nice crisp bit to the shrimp meat.

"Mmmmm. Whether you like it or not, that's more for me!" Taking her other food items in her bowl she repeated the process, occasionally grabbing a bit of rice with it and picking at the tsukemono and kimchi that was also placed before them. If she wanted to she could have wiped out everything before her, but she was in company and had to show some decency. "That's rather nice you have some unique hobbies. They really make you something unique. I can't say this for most girls, but that 'macho-man' archetype is boring and unrefined. You have a hobby that requires intelligence, care, and focus. I like cooking, decorating, caretaking, and crafting. I know Alkaid likes baking and she's actually a rather skilled knitter. If we wanted to, we could all move somewhere far away and easily be self-sufficient." She would laugh at the idea, though it did not sound entirely bad. The only thing that prevented her from the simple life was her clan and the responsibility she had. Tsubaki would tend to the grill, finishing the items and repeating the same process as before managing the cooking and keeping the combination diverse instead of going beef-heavy or vegetable-heavy on the grill.

Moonlit Rhapsody (Tsubaki) Empty Re: Moonlit Rhapsody (Tsubaki)

Post by Peragus Wed Nov 21, 2018 5:50 am

Their eyes locked, a moment passed. Calin’s breath hitched and he felt his heart skip several beats. It caused him to idly bring a hand to his chest for a moment before taking a drink of water. As he did she’d roll her eyes, both having broken the trance at once and saying that he was just hungry. “I’ll admit, I am absolutely starving, however there wasn’t anything ‘just’ about it.” Admitting that while she was correct, that didn’t mean he was wrong. He’d take a few moments to get his breathing under control, the smell of the cooking food getting stronger as she flipped, and agitated, the meat and vegetables to ensure everything cooked well. It honestly took him a few seconds and he was glad her focus was on the grill. It allowed him to get himself reigned in, and under control once more. That look had been something he wasn’t expecting. He wondered if she at all was having the same trouble, and was using the food as a reason to keep herself busy. Probably not, she was the queen. She could literally have any guy she wanted if she were to even put in an ounce of effort. If she did ever get that feeling when looking into a dates eyes. She was probably long since used to it. He’d never been on a date though, at least, not a real one. He couldn’t count the brief time he’d spent with Alkaid.

Brief flashes of self doubt crossed his mind. This woman could spend time with anyone she chose, was he even really worth her effort? His felt a bit of dismay at the thought. Alkaid had rejected him years before. Would Tsubaki do the same? He’d take a moment to reflect on that before smothering the thought in it’s sleep. He couldn’t afford to think that way, the bottom line was she did in fact, choose to spend time with him. This meant she did think he was worth some effort, and if she decided she didn’t want to spend more time with him then that was her decision. Her bloody damn well right to decide to do so. He couldn’t sit here and let himself feel sorry for himself. He just had to do his best to make this evening something worth it. Even if it didn’t turn to anything, at least it would be a good memory.

He did in fact know how to eat Yakiniku, however he’d let her show him regardless. Interrupting a lady was rude, and she was a good teacher regardless. He’d swiftly add his own share to his bowl. Afterwards he’d take his own shrimp, and dip it in one of the sauces and popped the whole thing in his mouth as well. The sauce was hot, and had a spiciness to it that Calin rather enjoyed. He’d probably try all of the sauces before they were done. However so far he’d liked that one. “You’d be hard pressed to find something I wouldn’t like Tsubaki-Chan.” He’d say with a smile after he’d eaten the shrimp. “Absolutely perfect, clearly you’re the better choice to run the grill.” He’d say with a sheepish laugh. “I can however take over at any point if you need me to. I don’t want you to feel like you’re doing all of the work. I’d be mortified.” He’d say honestly, meeting her eyes if possible when he said it. He meant it too, he wanted her to enjoy tonight. He briefly wondered if going to a barbecue had been a bad idea. It involved too much work for a simple date. ‘Stop second guessing yourself you idiot. You’ve never had this problem before, why now?’ He’d think to himself, not betraying his thoughts in the slightest as Tsubaki spoke about again his hobbies. ‘Alkaid knits? An interesting hobby.’ He’d think as she spoke.  He’d proceed to crack another little grin at her at the final sentence though. “Oh? Are you wanting us all to runaway into the night and live happily ever after?” He asked with a chuckle. At this point he’d continue to eat, favoring the shrimp first and then the pork belly and so on and so on. He was an organized eater, preferring to eat each individual park before moving on to the next. He could’ve easily wiped out everything in front of them if he were honest. However he couldn’t do that in public, and especially not when Tsubaki was in front of him. So he maintained a calm air regarding it all. Besides, they still had plenty of meat left to cook and each of them had an extra bowl of rice. Since the meal was meant to feed so many people. So there was plenty of food for them, they simply had to be polite about it.

Calin had offered to take over grilling at any time, to which Tsubaki declined. "Work? This isn't work. Now you just sit back and enjoy what I make." She would smile, returning her attention back to the grilling. Cooking to her was something she could do passively. It was almost like therapy, much like walking through a woods or along a beach was to some. It allowed her to think while keeping her busy, but unlike walking she actually accomplished something. And best of all she had someone to share with. Cooking was not something she did much of anymore being busy with her primary duties as the leader of the clan. She relied on the palace chefs to fix her meals. This date idea was an opportunity to relive the days of her culinary peak, being able to once again cook for herself and others. It was nostalgic, enjoyable, and exactly what she needed.

Tsubaki continued with what she planned to say about moving away and the three of them being sufficient enough with their skills. "The idea of living a peaceful, quiet life in the countryside has crossed my mind a few times. Just me and the folks I care about. But that's such a fairy tale to ever come true. Besides, even if I did have the opportunity, I couldn't just leave the clan like that. I would go against everything I stand for."

As time went on the food began to disappear on the table. The different meats, vegetables, and mushrooms were cooked and the remaining pickled vegetables and rice were eaten as well. Tsubaki reclined back in her seat, her stomach full with satisfaction after a long day of work with little real food to keep her going. "I have to hand it to you, this was a fun idea and a delicious one. I don't think I have room for dessert. What about you?" She said, giving him the chance to order something sweet. Tsubaki did not mind waiting if he still had room, but for once Tsubaki was full enough to turn down sweets.

He’d smile and shake his head in amusement at her as she declined his renewed offer. Telling him that this wasn’t work and telling him to sit back and enjoy. “Ma’am yes, ma’am.” He’d say jokingly before letting her continue. She would continue on after a moment that the idea of living a peaceful life in the countryside appealed to her. But that doing so would go against everything she stood for. “It does seem that life has a different path for you doesn’t it Tsubaki-chan.” He would say with a small sad smirk. Sometimes a peaceful would be so much nicer, no wars, no fighting, no killing. It was better that way to him. However, they were shinobi of Clan Kaguya. She was their queen, and that was that. Nothing could truly change that deep down. They had a sense of duty, and it would be seen through.

“I suppose I’m much the same way. Things that need doing and a Clan and home that I love. I couldn’t just walk away either. Besides, I couldn’t just take a few people that I care for with me. I’d have to try to take the entire clan with me. We’re all a part of the whole, you know.” He’d say, his chin idly resting on his hand as he stared off into space and spoke. He wasn’t really thinking of what he was saying at this point. It was just kind of autopilot, his mind running through the various people in the clan. Even those he didn’t always get along with. He’d stick by them too, through and through.

The night went on, the food was summarily cooked by the ashen haired angel at the grill. Then eaten by the combined efforts of Calin and that very same angel. Of course, anyone’s view of the woman might take that route if they ate her cooking. The sapphire eyes of Calin were half lidded now, a full contentment taking hold of his reigns. “No, no dessert. I could fall asleep right here if I’m being honest. Tsubaki-Chan that truly was amazing.” He would say as he looked at her eyes directly with that look of contentment. “Shall we head out?” He would ask. Should she say yes he would raise his hand for Shizuka who would promptly respond. “Check please.” The Kaguya male would say to which the woman would smile and pulled out a closed leather check holder and handed it to him closed before walking away. He’d proceed to open the holder and glance at it all to ensure they weren’t charged something they shouldn’t have been. It was all in order and Calin nodded before taking care of the bill and leaving an extra 500 ryo for Shizuka’s tip.

He would then stand, and, if he got to her before she stood up, would offer a hand out toward Tsubaki politely. “May I?” He would ask simply, a small smile on his lips as he suppressed a yawn. Hot food in such quantities could make anyone sleepy. He had plans for an evening walk through a lovely nearby park but he wasn’t sure if he was up for. Or if she was for that matter. He’d have to test that out when they got into the cooler air of the outside.
