Day 2 Encounter! Team 3 and a Team of 4 Empty Day 2 Encounter! Team 3 and a Team of 4

Post by Kimiko Thu Jul 25, 2024 2:29 pm

The crystal mines were treacherous, but Hibiki had been managing them well enough. That being said, it wouldn't be without its dangers. Maybe it was a product of her hallucinations, but maybe not. Was that a noise she heard?

    -

It always paid off to have a sensor on your team. It went without saying that there were other teams participating in the exam. With that came new alliances as well. After noticing that they weren't nearly as strong as the Major nation representatives, some of the Minor Nation applicants that had made it this far had decided to band together. With that came a merging of certain skills and abilities, making their sum much greater than the parts that comprised their team.

They'd been tracking a single target for a while, knowing that the likelihood was that they held a single scroll. An ambush of 4 against 1 on a weakened and alone target was perfect. Even if it was one of the stronger Genin from a Major nation, they'd be hard pressed to lose, and then they'd have 3 scrolls and only need 1 more. That was the thought process on joining together. It would be easier to ambush and take out lone targets or weak groups to advance with superior numbers.

While the making of a decoy would be useful in fooling the eyes, it wasn't useful in fooling the extrasensory capabilities of a sensor-nin.

Hailing from the land of Mountain, two shinobi formed one of the groups. Comprised of two males, this group had a dedicated support type Shinobi who was the primary sensor, medic, and Genjutsu specialist, as well as a dedicated combat specialist. The defacto leader of this group, given his affinity for a Kekkai Genkai, he was a practitioner of Crystal Release, which was why they camped in this area instead of moving on.

The other group hailed from Nagi Island, a minor nation held by Kirigakure. Comprised of a male and a female, while these two were talented in their own right, they hadn't specialized as hard on their talents, choosing to have a mixture of support talents and combat skills. While they weren't as good at either as their partners from Mountain, they could provide useful backup in case either of them went down and still fulfill the role well enough until the others had been brought back up.

All in all: A difficult group to face for many.

Hibiki would hear the sound of a hiss, an explosion, and clattering rocks as a trap was sprung, blocking off a portion of the path backwards with some collapsed tunnels. The trap had been manually sprung using an explosive tag from 20 meters away, and 3 of the 4 ambushers stepped out towards Hibiki, blocking her advance forward, the dedicated support remaining hidden further up the path for the time being. There was an advantage on staying out of the fight until absolutely needed.

The Korikane crystal user smirked at Hibiki. "Two options: Option 1, you hand over your scroll and continue on your way. Option 2, we make this a fight and you get knocked out of the competition."

Day 2 Encounter! Team 3 and a Team of 4 Empty Re: Day 2 Encounter! Team 3 and a Team of 4

Post by Hibiki Fri Jul 26, 2024 2:53 am

"Hey, Cinnamon Roll," the familiar voice of Innocence echoed in her mind, sharp and clear. "You hear that? Sounds like trouble."

Hibiki paused, her eyes narrowing as she scanned her surroundings. The sound had been faint, but distinct—a hiss, an explosion, and the clattering of rocks. Her heart pounded as she realized a trap had been sprung. She turned to see the path behind her blocked by a partially collapsed tunnel."Great, just great," she muttered to herself, gripping her makeshift spear tightly. "I should’ve seen this coming."

"Stay sharp, kid," the hallucination of Innocence urged. "They're coming."

Three figures emerged from the shadows ahead, blocking her path forward. The leader, apparently from the Land of Mountain, smirked at her. "Two options: Option 1, you hand over your scroll and continue on your way. Option 2, we make this a fight and you get knocked out of the competition."

Hibiki knew that she had to fight dirty if she wanted to survive. Swallowing her pride, she pretended to surrender, dropping her spear and letting it clatter to the ground. She raised her hands in a gesture of defeat, her eyes welling up with tears as she looked at the group. She played up her appearance, making herself look worse off than she really was—her disheveled state, sleeping in an abandoned building in only her bodysuit, added to the illusion.

"I know when I've been beaten," she said, her voice trembling as she shifted to put weight on one leg, acting as though the other had been injured in the explosion. "I'll give you my scroll, but which team should I give it to? The two strong-looking boys from Mountain or the girl from elsewhere? After all, it's only one scroll, so only one of your teams will be able to pass."

As she spoke, she subtly used her skintight bodysuit to distract the two men, hoping her sexy figure would play to her advantage. The hallucination of Innocence chuckled in her mind, "Most younger men do tend to think with their wieners, Cinnamon Roll."

Hibiki had read the team assignments and knew that most of the teams were comprised of even pairs, with one exception due to the odd number of people left over from the first exam. Even someone as thick as her had managed to deduce that the two from Mountain must have teamed up with the girl from elsewhere, just as she had been hoping to team up with Natsuki and Nao. She had no idea they had a fourth team member and was simply trying to psychologically drive a wedge between the two boys and the girl, hoping to fracture their teamwork or, if she was really lucky, get them to fight amongst themselves.

"Who’s it gonna be?" she asked, fluttering her eyelashes flirtatiously as she beckoned the leader closer with her free right hand. Her left hand slowly moved towards her pouch, acting as if she was going to take out the scroll to hand it to him. She hoped to lure him closer.

Hibiki kept her composure, her mind racing with the plan. She had concealed her intentions well, like a viper waiting for the right moment to strike. When the boy—she hesitated to classify him as a man due to his age—got close enough, she activated the switch on her headphones for the second time during this stage of the exam. The two headlamps emitted a blinding flash of light, aiming to stun the boy and his two companions, and perhaps even the hidden one she hadn't noticed yet.

Seizing the moment, Hibiki lightly stomped the butt of the makeshift spear she had dropped, causing it to bounce off the ground and into her left hand. Transforming into her super-strong steel form, she used the spear in an attempt to slash at the leader's legs.

The spear might have been crude, but the crystal she had used for the head was incredibly sharp. She wasn't aiming to completely sever his legs or kill him but hoped to mess them up badly enough that he would need immediate medical attention to survive, or at the very least, make it incredibly difficult for him to run after her.

The tip had been smeared with the pulp and juice from the strange fruit she had found in the cavern. Hibiki couldn't tell which were poisonous and which were not, but she had coated it in a bunch just to be sure. Even if it was probably only a mild poison, it was a further complication that the medic of the team would have to deal with.

Without wasting a moment, Hibiki followed up with a powerful punch attempting to hit his gut with her right hand, aiming to knock the wind out of him. She held back just enough to avoid killing him—after all, killing during the exam was forbidden except for the man who had killed Innocence—but the force would still be enough to potentially crack a rib or two and knock him out cold.

"Better to wound than to kill in this type of situation," the hallucination of Innocence remarked in Hibiki's mind. "That way, you deplete more enemy resources by forcing them to take care of their own. One down, and one less person to chase after you."

"Divide and conquer," she thought. By wounding the leader, she not only removed him from the fight but also forced one of his teammates to stay behind to look after him. This left her with a better chance of handling the remaining adversaries by forcing a series of one-on-one encounters.

Her mind raced as she considered her next move. She couldn't let the advantage slip away. With the leader hopefully down and his companions momentarily incapacitated, she needed to act quickly to maintain her upper hand.

"Come and get me," Hibiki taunted with a savage, sinister smirk. At lightning speed, her hands flashed through the three hand seals for the Transformation Jutsu. In a puff of smoke, she transformed from a teenager into a child version of herself—the same as she had been the day her clan's outpost had been destroyed in a fire. The day she had first become Subject H181K1. Except now, her entire body was steel instead of flesh and blood.

The reason for this transformation was simple. She had been much smaller at nine years old than she was now at sixteen, which meant she would be able to slip through the partially collapsed tunnel behind her. The maneuver had to be quick; hesitation would mean losing the advantage she had just gained.

Hibiki didn't waste a second. She darted toward the collapsed tunnel, her smaller frame allowing her to navigate the narrow passage with ease. The tunnel, once a daunting barrier, now served as her escape route.

The hallucination of Innocence in Hibiki's mind chimed in,  "Nice move, Cinnamon Roll. Ready for stage two?"  Hibiki didn't need to be told twice. She moved swiftly, the metallic sound of her footsteps echoing through the narrow passage.

Hibiki reverted to her normal size as soon as she passed through the narrow passage, hiding herself just a few steps away on the other side. She hoped that at least one of her pursuers would be dumb or angry enough to chase after her without thinking. She readied herself, poised to strike.

Day 2 Encounter! Team 3 and a Team of 4 Empty Re: Day 2 Encounter! Team 3 and a Team of 4

Post by Kimiko Sat Jul 27, 2024 11:08 pm

The Korikane observed Hibiki's willingness to give up with some amount of suspicion. It was too easy, the weapon was still within reach of her. Her words all but confirmed that she wasn't quite so hopeless as she was letting on. It was clear she was trying to sew seeds of doubt among them. Unfortunately for her, this group worked well together, and they'd already discussed terms for how the scrolls would be split.

He was about to order her to toss the scroll pouch to the side and kick away her spear before he'd approach, when his own radio transmitter emitted two quick, low beeps, indicating that the sensor had just picked up the presence of 2 new individuals in his range. This complicated things slightly, but only in that they'd be fighting now for sure. Still, they had the numbers advantage, and two groups meant that there were two scrolls. If they pulled this off, they'd have all the scrolls needed to pass.

"Actually, I guess fair's fair. Pick up the spear, it's gonna be a fight." he said, at least showing that much courtesy. "Seems we've got more company approaching."

However, with that, he would begin to quickly weave hand signs. The speed at which he did so indicated he wasn't a pushover either, although every single member of the group had taken enhancers to get to their current level. Without that, they wouldn't stand a chance against Hibiki, but they'd become threats to match any that the major nations could front, however temporarily. Drugs and Provisions were useful things for Shinobi.

However, having the advantage of distance, rather than having been in front of her for melee combat, the spear wasn't the immediate threat she was intending it to be, and she'd have to close 5 meters distance for the swing to matter. Two hand seals was all the Korikane needed in the meantime as crystals sprang up in the cavern, a massive crystal dragon ripping out of the floor and launching towards Hibiki, filling most of the narrow tunnels.

At the same time, perhaps a bit callously, the kunoichi began to also weave hand signs. The ground that Hibiki stood on and the rest of the tunnel 48 meters past her and 2 meters before launched up towards the ceiling, aiming to pin her between the roof and the ground. The Dragon was a superior technique and would be able to tunnel through it, creating a fairly dangerous combination that few Genin would be capable of withstanding. This had the added benefit of completely closing off the collapsed tunnel.

Of course, this was only intended to cause some bone breaks and knock her out. They had plenty of medical knowledge between them all to keep her alive as long as she didn't outright die.

Day 2 Encounter! Team 3 and a Team of 4 Empty Re: Day 2 Encounter! Team 3 and a Team of 4

Post by Hibiki Sun Jul 28, 2024 2:44 am

Hibiki's eyes narrowed as the enemy team leader's suspicion became apparent. She'd been trying to appear vulnerable, but it seemed they weren't easily fooled.   She had hoped to avoid direct conflict with  the three of them all at once, but it seemed inevitable now.

"Actually, I guess fair's fair. Pick up the spear, it's gonna be a fight," the leader commanded, his voice laced with a mixture of courtesy and anticipation. Hibiki's heart quickened, her battle instincts kicking in. Gripping her spear tightly, she prepared herself for what was to come.

The leader's quick hand signs revealed his proficiency, and she braced herself for the impending clash. The kunoichi's hand signs added to the impending threat. It was a well-coordinated attack, designed to overwhelm her.

But Hibiki wasn't just any Genin.

Her metal form activated almost instinctively, her body transforming into a living fortress of strength and durability. The Impervious Armour EX enveloped her, enhancing her physical attributes to their peak. Her muscles surged with power, and she felt the familiar weight and resilience of her metallic form.

Hibiki’s eyes widened as a massive crystal dragon erupted from the floor, surging toward her with incredible speed. "Don't just stand there drooling like an idiot!" The voice of Innocence, clear and sharp, echoed in her mind as the ground beneath her began to rise, aiming to pin her against the ceiling. It was another hallucination, but one she couldn't ignore. "Stomp that ground to dust!"

Hibiki's eyes flickered with determination. She lifted her left foot and stomped down with all her might. The ground beneath her buckled and shattered under the force of her S-rank strength, the Earth Release: Moving Earth Core crumbling into dust. The kunoichi's attempt to trap her was thwarted in an instant.

Without hesitating, Hibiki launched herself forward. Her speed, amplified by her metal form and Cosmic Boots, made her a blur as she charged toward the crystal dragon. The massive crystalline beast, impressive in its own right, stood no chance against her sheer power.

As she collided with the dragon, her body became a living bulldozer, plowing through the crystal structure with ease. Shards of crystal flew in all directions, pulverized by her unstoppable momentum. The dragon shattered and crumbled around her, unable to withstand the force of her advance.

"That's it, Crush them!" Innocence's voice urged, the hallucination spurring her on with a mixture of encouragement and taunting.

Hibiki's eyes locked onto the Korikane leader, who was now within striking distance. Ignoring her spear, she balled her hand into a fist, knowing that her own body was a weapon in itself.  As she closed the gap, the remains of the crystal dragon scattered around her.

With a swift, powerful motion, Hibiki attempted to drive her fist directly into the leader's gut. Hopefully  he would be so surprised by having his attack ignored by her brute force approach that she’d catch him with his guard down.

The force of her punch enhanced by her metal form would be overwhelming if it connected. She tried her best to hold back just enough to knock the air out of his lungs and maybe crack a rib or two instead of reducing him to a pulp of flesh and blood.

"Finish it, Hibiki. Show them they messed with the wrong person," Innocence's voice echoed in her mind, the hallucination adding a final push of determination. She knew she had to act quickly to eliminate the remaining threats. Channeling her Steel Release chakra, she performed the necessary hand seals for her next technique: Impervious Tendrils.

Dragon, Tiger, Rat, Dog. She felt the steel tendrils burst forth from her body, sprouting from her back, sides, and front until she had twenty in total. Each tendril was thick and strong, extending up to twenty meters, filling the narrow passageway around her.

Then Hibiki began to spin, mimicking her fiancé Nao's rotation technique. Her body whirled around like a top, and the tendrils became a lethal blender, slicing through the air with deadly precision. The narrow passageway was now a death trap, and anything that got close would be shredded.

"Those tendrils are creepy as hell, Cinnamon roll" Innocence's voice chimed in, a hint of approval mixed with unease. "But damn, that's a good strategy. If you can't react to attacks reliably, just make sure you're always delivering a fatal blow."

Hibiki held back her strength, aiming for a level that hopefully would be enough to cause serious damage without outright killing her opponents. As she spun, her tendrils, in their blunt form, became a force to be reckoned with.  Her hope was that her opposition would be caught in the whirling storm of steel and quickly battered into submission.

Day 2 Encounter! Team 3 and a Team of 4 Empty Re: Day 2 Encounter! Team 3 and a Team of 4

Post by Nao Hyūga Sun Jul 28, 2024 2:55 pm

Nao, Natsuki, and Amarok had been tracking Hibiki's path, following the signs she had left behind and trying their best to catch up to her since her radio call that Innocence had been killed. Nao knew that Hibiki was capable of taking care of herself, but then again he could have said the same thing about Innocence and look what happened to her. The fact was that his love was out there alone now and he would simply feel better if he was by her side, the group moved with a sense of urgency, knowing that time was of the essence. Amarok was the first to pick up Hibiki's trail, the Dire Wolf finding the familiar scent of one he knew and leading the charge through the forest where they had been.

Nao followed quickly behind him, his Byakugan activated and on the lookout for any signs of trouble as they rushed in Hibiki's direction, occasionally zooming in to a five hundred meters distance ahead of them to see if they were getting any closer to her before zooming back out to his normal two hundred and fifty meter range. An explosion up ahead of them in the distance caught his attention almost instantly, the echo reverberating through the cavern and he focused on the source. Finding a cave in that would block their path before seeing beyond it to the three individuals that blocked Hibiki. "I see her," Nao said, his voice tinged with concern. "She's engaged against three others, we need to get there quickly. Hibiki's tough, but she's outnumbered."

Nao's Byakugan would return to his normal range as he pushed forward, his speed increasing as he instinctual activated Accretion and prepared to enter combat with his gentle fist style. As they approached the blocked passage, Nao saw the collapsed tunnel and swiftly assessed the situation.  He could see Hibiki's metallic form spinning with tendrils, fighting off her attackers as well as another further along the path as though he was staying back out of the fight. Without hesitation, he began to focus his chakra, preparing to clear a path. "Get ready," Nao said, his tone resolute. "Stand back," he instructed as he continued forward without stopping, channeling his chakra into a powerful technique just before he made contact with the collapsed tunnel. "Eight Trigrams Mountain Crusher!"

He released a surge of chakra from his palms, sending a shockwave through the collapsed tunnel. The debris shifted and shattered, creating a narrow but passable opening that the trio could pass through to reach Hibiki. "There is a fourth man further up the tunnel, get to him, I'll join the fight with Hibiki." Nao called to Natsuki as he wasted no time, slipping through the gap and entering the fray with Amarok. He knew that he wouldn't be able to simply blow past the three facing against Hibiki, but Natsuki was able to manipulate the earth element so it was possible for him with the right technique. The fact that the man stayed back from the fight lead Nao to believe that there was a reason, but it didn't matter if Natsuki could reach him.

As Nao moved forward he formed a string of six hand seals in less than half a second before releasing a burst of chakra, this chakra wouldn't do anything unless there was a sensor in the group that they were facing, but Nao had to believe that there was one. They would all be within range of his overwhelming chakra pulse, even the man that had stayed back, so if there was a sensor among them, they would find their chakra senses overloaded and have to shut it down. This would give him, Natsuki and Hibiki an advantage as it would allow Natsuki to reach the fourth man of the group without notice, or at least he hoped it would. If there was no sensor then it would just be a waste of chakra, but it was better to be safe than sorry.

Hibiki's tendrils continued to whirl around her, a deadly storm of steel, but left enough of an opening between the tendrils that he could get a shot off at the others without hitting her. Nao quickly formed a string of three hand seals, Monkey, Hare, Dragon as he formed a diamond with his hands in front of him and released a powerful blast of Raiton at the leader of the trio engaged against Hibiki. Amarok would move to the other side of Hibiki from his master, releasing a thunderbolt from his mouth at the other man in the group. "Hibiki! We've got your back!" Nao called out, his voice carrying through the chaos. "Let's finish this together!" Nao was on guard ready for anything they might throw at him, Amarok stood crouched and snarling ready to pounce as soon as his master gave the signal.

Day 2 Encounter! Team 3 and a Team of 4 Empty Re: Day 2 Encounter! Team 3 and a Team of 4

Post by Natsuki Uchiha Sun Jul 28, 2024 7:02 pm

Natsuki, feeling the earth beneath him as they ran, was well aware of the goings on before them as Nao's eyes saw it too. The raw upheaval of the region was immense, but Hibiki's particular talents seemed to carry her for now. "I see her too!" As they neared, even the others would become apparent through their movements. What was most shocking, however, was whatever the hell had become of the simple girl. A dervish of flailing tendrils that whacked and battered the surrounding earth in a manner that Natsuki would hardly believe if he weren't actively feeling their whirling.

It was the fourth enemy that Nao mentioned, though, that was most concerning to Natsuki. As the Hyuuga used a formidable technique to further open a passage for them, he couldn't help but wonder why that particular shinobi would stay back so far. "They've got something up their sleeves, for sure; but I'll handle it," he nodded with confidence as he stomped his foot to the ground. As Nao rushed forward, a map of the area formed from the reverberations that Natsuki sent out. The tunnels were an impediment for some, and the crystals within and without of the walls might even pose a challenge to some Earth Release shinobi; but not for Natsuki, not with Ren's technique. With a moment's pause to let the surroundings take hold in his mind, the young Uchiha wove a single seal.

His fingers sharpened and solidified into plate-like digging instruments as he crouched his knees and prepared to jump. It was at that moment, however, that Nao's next technique took effect. The chakra that he sensed from all those ahead were suddenly obfuscated by an immense pulse that forced Natsuki to stagger a half step back, effectively blinded to the chakra ahead. What the hell, man?! Was all he could think as he dove into the wall and dug. Thankfully, it would not effect his Seismic Sense.

He would give the combatants a wide berth, confident in his allies' ability to fend off a three versus two matchup while he put whatever ace they had in a hole. His mind was almost singularly focused as he made his way, unseen and undetected, towards the back man- but there was one other nagging thought: There was Hibiki and the four others, one with weird chakra... But they were all he felt. Even his previous mapping had an ulterior design. The unsettling reality was becoming more clear, but his previous hesitation had just opened him and his partner up for attack. For now, he would allow himself a singular thought before focusing up:

    She's not here...

With his digging claws, Natsuki was able to traverse the walls with ease and rapidity until he was just behind the support nin. He readied himself as he gripped the hilt of his Whispersteel Blade, aiming to take this one out quickly and quietly. All within the walls, Natsuki raised his sword high and began to channel doton chakra into it.

The blade, already incredibly hard due to the material, was enhanced as it pitched to blackness- but it was the secondary effect that the support shinobi would perceive only an instant before the blunt side of the blade came crashing down upon his skull. Silence. The continuing battle would suddenly be hushed and, likewise, he would produce no sound either. Hopeful and confident of his ability to knock out the enemy with the initial strike, he prepared to surge from the earthen wall and engage the man in more direct combat if necessary.

Day 2 Encounter! Team 3 and a Team of 4 Empty Re: Day 2 Encounter! Team 3 and a Team of 4

Post by Kimiko Tue Jul 30, 2024 4:00 pm

Hibiki was incredibly strong, that wasn't going to be a starter. Even before her foot made contact with the ground, the Korikane could tell that this wasn't going to be an easy fight, and with someone else on their way as well, they could either be an asset or an enemy. Not about to take the risk of them being her ally, he had to assume everyone would be against him anyhow, and wanted the scrolls for their team to begin with.

The Korikane began to cover his own body with a defensive technique as he backed away, setting up a powerful defense as his skin darkened from the Earth Spear technique. He continued to back away for now, forming another Jutsu as a crystal defense coated over him from there additionally supporting him.

The Female, for her own right protected her arms with Earth Spear as well, blocking the path for Hibiki, as her ally went to coat himself in a Raiton armor, but she was too fast and too strong to fully set up against. Hibiki's launch forward would be met by them blocking her tendrils with their weapons, but the strength disparity sent them flying into the walls. It was enough to buy time for the Korikane to get his defenses up:

Nao proved to be the perfect counter, his technique smashing through the defensive techniques that he'd just set up. While he didn't take any damage from it, it was now a quickly reversed situation, 1 v 3, as his allies were down too and this was an overwhelming force.

Even with their set up, their trap, and the chems enhancing them, it was too much. He held up his hands in surrender.

The sensor was blinded from sensory abilities, but within 30 meters of Hibiki and Nao, they were well within range to help take them out and prevent a total loss. Putting the flute he had to his lips, he began to play, putting any opponents who heard it under the spell of his Genjutsu. Or he would have, but the sword came down from the wall and knocked him out within one fell swoop.

Surrendering, the teamwork made the dreamwork.

Day 2 Encounter! Team 3 and a Team of 4 Empty Re: Day 2 Encounter! Team 3 and a Team of 4

Post by Hibiki Sat Aug 03, 2024 2:02 am

Hibiki's eyes narrowed, taking in the scene around her. The chaotic storm of her steel tendrils created a whirling barrier that shielded her and provided an opening for Nao to launch his attack. She heard Nao's voice cut through the tumult, and it brought a fierce smile to her lips.

"Nao! You're here!" she called out, her voice strained but filled with determination. "I’m okay, but these guys are tough."

Her tendrils continued their relentless dance, slamming against the defensive weapons of her opponents. The force sent them sprawling against the walls, knocking them out cold. The tide had turned, and now it was 1 vs. 3 in their favor.

Seeing the Korikane leader raise his hands in surrender, Hibiki's steel tendrils slowly retracted, coiling back into a more passive state. She remained in her steel form, rightfully wary that the Korikane leader might try to pull a fast one on her at the last second—especially since her original plan had been to do the same to him. She took a deep breath, feeling the adrenaline coursing through her veins. With a softer expression, she approached him.

"Good choice," she said, her voice steady but more understanding. She looked over at Nao and Amarok, gratitude shining in her eyes. "Thanks for the assist, Nao. We did it."

As she spoke, a whirlwind of thoughts raced through her mind. There was so much she wanted to talk about with Nao, so many things she needed to say. The guilt over having let Innocence die. The relief of having him by her side in the fight, the fear that had gripped her when the battle began, and the overwhelming urge to throw herself into his chest and cry. But all that would have to wait until the more serious business was concluded and they had some degree of privacy.

Innocence's hallucination appeared at her side, a teasing smirk on her face. "Oh, look at you, all tough and mighty," Innocence said, her voice a mocking whisper. "Just admit it cinnamon roll, you want to fall apart in his arms. Can't keep up this steel facade forever."

Hibiki ignored the hallucination, focusing on the task at hand. Turning back to the Korikane leader, she gave him a nod. "You fought well. Hand over the scrolls, and you can go. No hard feelings."

Nao wanted nothing more than to rush to Hibiki and hug her, having been separated even for two days felt like a lifetime, however now was not the time for such affection. Once they we out of here and safe it would be different but for not he needed to focus. Seeing the Korikane leader raise his hands in surrender was a relief, but he knew better than to let his guard down completely. Even if the man was now outnumbered, there was no telling what the man could try in order to escape with his scroll. He techniques still active and remaining in his gentle fist stance, as soon as Hibiki began talking to the man, Nao would rush forward striking the man with two fingers in the right hip bone. It wouldn't hurt the man but it would prevent him from using any jutsu to try to attack them or get away, even if he had surrender Nao did not trust the man. "Better safe than sorry," he said quietly before holding out his hand for the man to hand over the scrolls.

Day 2 Encounter! Team 3 and a Team of 4 Empty Re: Day 2 Encounter! Team 3 and a Team of 4

Post by Natsuki Uchiha Thu Aug 08, 2024 3:09 pm

It was certainly a surprise, to be sure, that the duo would make such quick work of their adversaries, but a welcome one. As he scurried through the dirt, the sensation of their methods left Natsuki feeling like his approach lacked a certain something. Granted; results, it was not. As the blunt end of his sword came crashing down onto the skull of the backend support shinobi, the boy stepped from the tunnel walls and caught them before they hit the floor.

It seemed that their remaining foe was to surrender, and continuing the fight was certainly not in his best interest; all the same, he did not necessarily know that all of his companions were dispatched, so it was best that Natsuki keep a healthy distance to assist. He dragged the unconscious body of the support nin somewhat back towards the fray, giving the young Uchiha proximity enough to scramble forward and assist his Konoha comrades should the need arise but keeping him well out of range of the deafening aura.

Sound was not something Natsuki needed to know the goings-on around the tunnel bend, after all. So he waited, ready to strike and hopeful that this was all over. For, even in this moment, his thoughts were more clouded than the two love-birds who seemed to resist each others' embrace. In what some may call hope, and others call denial, the earthen sensor continued to feel out in all directions that he would feel her presence.

    Cmon, Inno, where are you...

He confirmed it earlier, but maybe she had some trick nearby, maybe she was plotting some strike against these four that, somehow, Natsuki couldn't see. His blindspots were few, except for her and the hope that she still lived.

Post by Kimiko Thu Aug 15, 2024 10:35 pm

About to pull out his scroll, Nao sucker punched him in the gut, shutting off his ability to use any Jutsu. While he hadn't been planning on it, the Korikane couldn't help but seethe in anger a bit as he pulled out two scrolls and handed them over to Hibiki.

"Fucking hell, why're you with Konoha?" he muttered to himself, not really having expected to fight a steel release user representing Konoha. While he was from a minor nation, he hailed from the same lands that Iwa's Kekkai genkai came from.

Radio'ing in to his ally, the Korikane awaited a response which wouldn't come. "We've been routed. Regroup to heal up. Lost our scroll."

He went to go to his allies and check on them, making sure they were still alive and breathing at least. Unfortunately, he wasn't a healer so he'd have to wait for them to wake up naturally.

Day 2 Encounter! Team 3 and a Team of 4 Empty Re: Day 2 Encounter! Team 3 and a Team of 4

Post by Hibiki Fri Aug 16, 2024 2:40 am

Hibiki watched as Nao swiftly struck the Korikane leader, disabling him from using any jutsu. It was a smart move, one she might have done herself if she hadn’t been occupied with keeping her guard up.

Innocence’s voice drifted into her thoughts once more, a sing-song tone with an edge of mockery. "Ooh, look at him, all protective and cool. You know you wanna run into his arms, but nope, steel yourself, cinnamon roll! Can't be weak now, not in front of the enemies and definitely not in front of him."

Hibiki bit back a sigh, knowing that Innocence was right, at least about the timing. She could practically feel Nao's desire to embrace her, and every fiber of her being wanted to do the same. But now wasn't the time. There was still danger, and she couldn’t afford to let her guard down, not with everything they’d been through.

As she retrieved the scrolls the Korikane leader's grumbled question about her allegiance to Konoha caught her off guard. Hibiki paused, glancing at the leader as he seethed quietly, clearly frustrated and bewildered by the outcome. His question hung in the air, and though it wasn’t directed at her specifically, she felt the need to answer.

“Why am I with Konoha?” she repeated, her voice calm but firm. “Because they gave me a home when I had none. They trusted me, even when they didn’t have to. That’s why I’m here, fighting alongside them. We’re not just teammates—we’re family.”

Innocence’s voice whispered in her mind, sounding oddly proud. "Good answer. Can’t argue with that, can he?"

Hibiki let her steel form remain active, not willing to drop her guard completely. She knew better than to trust someone who might try to pull a fast one at the last second—especially when she’d originally planned to do the same thing to him.

Despite the tension, there was a flicker of empathy in her eyes as they met the Korikane leader's gaze. "Take care of your teammates," she said, a hint of warmth in her voice. "We all have our missions. Maybe next time we can meet on better terms."

Innocence’s voice chimed in with a playful tone. "Look at you, being all diplomatic. Who would've thought?"

Hibiki ignored the comment, focusing on the Korikane leader. She wasn’t naïve enough to completely trust him, but there was no reason to push things further now that the fight was over. Everyone had their own reasons for being here, and she could respect that.

"We need to keep moving," she said aloud, though her words were as much for herself as for Nao and the others. "Let's get out of here before anything else happens."

As the Korikane leader radioed his ally, Hibiki couldn’t help but feel a pang of guilt. They were enemies in this exam, but in another life, they might have been allies. The thought of him checking on his fallen comrades tugged at her, but she pushed it aside.

Innocence chimed in again, her voice teasing yet tinged with something deeper. "Aw, don’t go soft on him now. Remember, you had a plan to do exactly what Nao did to him. It’s all part of the game, cinnamon roll."

Hibiki shook her head slightly, trying to clear it. The hallucination’s words were true—she had planned to double-cross the Korikane leader if given the chance. It was just the way things worked in this brutal exam. But still, seeing him worry over his comrades made her chest ache, a feeling she wasn’t used to.

As Hibiki turned away from the Korikane leader, she became more aware of the fact that she was still clad in just her orange bodysuit. While she didn’t mind Nao seeing her like this—after all, he was her fiancé—she figured it was probably time to cover up again. The intensity of the fight had driven the thought from her mind, but now that things were settling down, she felt the need to regain a bit more modesty.

Innocence’s voice echoed teasingly in her mind. "Oh, so now you remember? Wouldn’t want to give him too much of a show, would you?"

Ignoring the jab, Hibiki glanced at Nao, offering him a small smile. "Guess it’s about time I got dressed properly," she said lightly, trying to keep the mood relaxed despite everything that had just happened.

She made her way over to where she had dropped the makeshift straw dummy at the start of the fight, retrieving her coat and overalls from it. With a quick movement, she pulled her coat on and slipped back into her overalls, feeling a little more like herself again.

She glanced at Nao again, who still seemed focused and ready for anything. So much she wanted to say, to ask him, but the moment wasn’t right. They had to get to safety first. But later, when they were alone, she’d let herself be vulnerable—if only for a little while.

Innocence's voice softened, as if sensing Hibiki's thoughts. "You know, it’s okay to let someone in. Just… not right now. But soon. Very soon."

Hibiki nodded almost imperceptibly, feeling a flicker of agreement. She reached out and took Nao’s hand for a brief moment, squeezing gently before letting go. A silent promise that she’d open up later.

Then, with a deep breath, she turned her focus back to the task at hand, her mind already shifting to the next concern.  The rush of battle was beginning to fade, but the weight of everything they needed to discuss was just starting to settle in. Her gaze flicked around the area, still wary of any hidden threats.

"Where’s Natsuki?" Hibiki asked, her voice tinged with worry. She hadn’t seen him since the fight started, and the uncertainty gnawed at her. "Is he okay? We need to regroup somewhere safe, where we can talk without worrying about interruptions."

"Always the mom of the group, huh? Worrying about everyone like that." spoke Innocence in a light, almost teasing tone.

Day 2 Encounter! Team 3 and a Team of 4 Empty Re: Day 2 Encounter! Team 3 and a Team of 4

Post by Natsuki Uchiha Sat Aug 31, 2024 11:14 pm

The subtle change in Hibiki's exerted pressure on the ground, as well as a myriad of other context clues, told Natsuki that the deed had been done. The gut punch might have been a lot, but even without the knowledge of Nao's jutsu, the young Uchiha felt it sent a solid message that this was over.

He relinquished his own chakra flow that permeated his weapon, sheathing it as its color and the ambient sounds returned. "We've been routed. Regroup to heal up. Lost our scroll." A bit startled, Natsuki looked towards the radio and shrugged slightly, more context clues. With the battle well over, Natsuki crouched down and pulled the support shinobi over his shoulders, carrying them over towards the rest of the group.

    "Where’s Natsuki?"

    "I'm here!"

As he turned the bend, his eyes lit up with a soft smile as he spotted the scrolls in Hibiki's grasp. Such joy soon faded as her face reminded him of questions unanswered. It would drop further as he made eye contact with the Korikane, as well. This was a hard exam and the format demanded that there would be losers. Strong feelings as there may be in battle, these were not his enemies; these were nothing like that girl from the examination.

Natsuki cautiously approached and carefully lowered the unconscious support nin beside some of their other comrades. He wouldn't speak to the only remaining conscious nin, but he would offer him a respectful nod.

On his way back to Nao and Hibiki, Natsuki would want nothing more than to leave before entertaining the million thoughts that plagued him. "Let's get out of here, quickly."

Day 2 Encounter! Team 3 and a Team of 4 Empty Re: Day 2 Encounter! Team 3 and a Team of 4

Post by Hibiki Tue Sep 24, 2024 11:54 pm

Hibiki’s relief at reuniting with Nao was short-lived. As she stepped toward him, she noticed his posture sagging, his breath becoming shallow.

“Nao?” Her voice wavered as she reached out to steady him, but his body leaned heavily against her. His skin had turned pale, his eyes glassy. Something was horribly wrong.

“Nao!” she said, more urgently, panic creeping into her voice. She quickly glanced over her shoulder at the Korikane leader, who was busy checking on his teammates. If he realized Nao was weakening, he might reconsider surrendering and make another attempt at the scrolls. Hibiki couldn’t let that happen.

    She needed to move, fast.

With a deep breath, Hibiki slipped one of Nao’s arms over her shoulder, supporting his weight. “We’re leaving,” she muttered under her breath, casting a wary glance back at the Korikane leader. “Let’s go.”

Nao was barely conscious now, his feet dragging as she hurriedly led him away. Natsuki joined them, his expression concerned but alert as he took up a position at her side. Together, they made their way through the dark cave, past the makeshift traps Hibiki had set earlier. She was barely paying attention to her surroundings, her mind racing. Her focus was entirely on getting Nao to safety.

They finally reached her makeshift base—a small, abandoned building deeper in the cave, fortified with the rudimentary traps she’d set to keep others out. The moment they were inside, Hibiki gently lowered Nao onto the ground, her hands shaking.

She knelt beside him, her breathing uneven as tears began to well up in her eyes. “No… no, no, no…” she whispered, her voice breaking. “I can’t lose you too. I can’t…”

The floodgates opened as she collapsed beside him, her sobs echoing in the empty space. “We haven’t even had our wedding yet,” she moaned, clutching Nao’s hand tightly. “You can’t leave me, not like this. I already lost Innocence… I can’t—”

Innocence’s familiar voice interrupted, soft but with an edge of concern.

“Hibiki… pull yourself together. Nao’s not gone, but… look at him. These symptoms… they remind me of Tori-sensei. You remember, don’t you?”

Hibiki’s heart skipped a beat. Tori-sensei. How could she forget? The coma, the slow descent, the way he had faded away while they watched helplessly. Panic surged in her chest as she brushed Nao’s hair away from his face. His breathing was shallow, just like Tori-sensei’s had been.

She swallowed hard, forcing herself to think. She needed to do something, anything, but her mind felt like it was spinning out of control.

“Natsuki,” she choked out, turning toward him. “What do we do?” Her voice was thick with desperation, tears still streaming down her face. She reached into her pouch and pulled out one of the scrolls they had taken from the defeated team, holding it out to him. “Here… take this. I… I’m sorry I had to leave Innocence behind. I didn’t know what else to do…”

She bit her lip, her body trembling as she waited for Natsuki’s response, hoping he would have some kind of plan—because right now, she didn’t. All she could think about was how close she was to losing the man she loved.
