Trouble at Night Empty Trouble at Night

As the evening shadows lengthened and the village settled into a calm twilight, Ryu prepared for his mission. Tasked with guarding the market district and dealing with a group of juvenile delinquents, he couldn't help but feel a mix of annoyance and responsibility. The payment of 15,000 Ryo was a strong motivator, and he knew the shop owners were relying on him to put an end to the graffiti problem and he didn't want to have to wash it off again. Ryu arrived at the market district just as the last rays of the sun disappeared behind the horizon. He found a good vantage point on the roof of a nearby building, where he could observe the entire area without being easily spotted.

The market was quiet, with only the occasional passerby, and the shop owners had long since closed up and gone home. The air was cool, and Ryu settled in, keeping his senses sharp despite the tedious nature of a stakeout. Hours passed, and Ryu remained vigilant, his eyes scanning the darkened streets for any sign of movement. Just as he was beginning to grow restless, he spotted a group of figures sneaking into the market district. They moved quietly, but their laughter and whispered conversations carried through the night air. There were four of them, each carrying cans of spray paint and wearing dark clothing.

Ryu waited until they began their work, tagging the side of a prominent bakery, before making his move. He leapt down from his perch, landing silently behind them. The delinquents were so engrossed in their vandalism that they didn’t notice his approach until he was almost upon them. "Hey," Ryu called out, his voice cold and commanding. The delinquents spun around, eyes wide with surprise and fear. "What do you think you're doing?" The leader of the group, a lanky teenager with a cocky grin, stepped forward. "None of your business, old man. Why don’t you go back to bed?" Ryu's patience was already thin, and the teenager's attitude didn’t help.

"I'm here to stop you from ruining these shops. You can either leave now, or I can make you." The delinquents exchanged nervous glances, but the leader wasn't ready to back down. "Oh yeah? You and what army?" Ryu didn’t waste any more words. With a swift, fluid motion, he closed the distance between them and disarmed the leader, sending the spray can clattering to the ground. The other delinquents tried to scatter, but Ryu was faster, his movements precise and controlled. He blocked a punch from one delinquent, countering with a quick jab to the stomach that left the boy gasping for breath.

Another tried to tackle him from behind, but Ryu sidestepped and delivered a sweeping kick that sent the attacker sprawling. The leader, now weaponless and visibly shaken, made a last-ditch attempt to strike Ryu. He swung wildly, but Ryu easily deflected the blow and grabbed the teenager's arm, twisting it behind his back and forcing him to the ground. "Enough," Ryu said, his voice firm. "You’re done here. Tell your friends this stops now, or next time, it won’t be just a warning." The delinquents, thoroughly beaten and terrified, nodded quickly. Ryu released the leader, who scrambled to his feet and helped his friends up. They fled the market district, leaving their spray cans behind.

Ryu watched them go, his expression unreadable. Once he was sure they were gone, he picked up the spray cans and disposed of them properly. The market district was quiet again, the threat dealt with for now. As he made his way back to the village gates, the sense of unease from earlier in the day was replaced with a feeling of satisfaction. He had completed the mission and earned his pay. The shop owners would be pleased, and hopefully, the delinquents had learned their lesson. Ryu handed over his report and collected his payment. The 15,000 Ryo felt heavy in his pocket, a tangible reward for a job well done. As he headed home, the night air cool on his face, Ryu allowed himself a small, tired smile. It had been a long day, but at least he had made a difference.
