A Hunter's Ascension

The chuunin exams were coming up and there was something stirring within Sera that she needed to uncover. It wasn’t something akin to nerves or butterflies, but felt more like an actual tangible feeling almost like something was flowing through her body. The blonde kunoichi had decided to go to an abandoned valley to figure out exactly what was going on and maybe do some secluded training while she was at it. She came fully equipped with her bow and normal arsenal of gear, wearing combat attire instead of her casual clothes that she preferred. Her long blonde hair flowed in the gentle breeze and as she stood in the center of an almost desert-like canyon, she closed her eyes and began to focus on sensing chakra.

Combined with her trained hunting senses, her kanchijutsu ability gave her great insight into her surroundings. No animal could move without her hearing it and nothing would be able to sneak up on her with chakra without her sensing it. She was able to sense chakra flowing within her though. Lightning chakra seemed to pulse throughout her body and with her sensory abilities, Sera could tell that it was this chakra that had given her that feeling. This chakra moved on its own throughout her body and stimulated her muscles and brain. Sera opened her eyes and she was able to utilize this chakra to her advantage. The world was open and nothing could hide from her gaze now.

Feeling a surge of elation, Sera focused lightning chakra from within her and surged it outwards, creating wings which burst from her back. Without thinking it was unusual, Sera began to ascend upwards, starting to fly as if it was the most natural thing in the world. Tears formed in the corner of her eyes as she flew through the air, enjoying a type of freedom that the young girl could never have imagined. She was able to see everything from up here and her hunter’s instincts told her that she had taken another step towards becoming an apex predator.

Visions of a previous encounter flashed through her mind as she remembered being helpless trapped underground during her training exercise. Well not anymore! She was airborne and she was free! Lightning chakra built up within her and Sera extended her palm outward, emitting the electricity outwards. A sphere of energy burst from within her and surrounded her person. She would never be trapped underground again. This was the end of helpless Sera and the birth of a true hunter.

Sera put down her palm and released the lightning technique that she had created. A bright smile burst onto her face as she realized what had just happened. I made my own ninjutsu technique! I can’t believe it! What should I do? Do I need to go and register it somewhere? Oh this isn’t the time for that, I’m flying!!! Sera began to laugh and soar through the sky, letting the wing flow through her hair. The lightning wings gave her a tremendous boost to her speed that was quite alarming at first, but it wasn’t actually out of her control. Even though she could now move at insane speeds, it all was something she could handle.

With a new surge of confidence, Sera flew back to her previous training ground in the canyon that was specifically sparse of any vegetation. There was a strong fire technique that she had been wanting to learn for quite some time, but it was too dangerous to unleash within the training grounds or in a forest area. The dirt and almost sandy area here was perfect for her to finally unleash it. From her position perched in the air, Sera performed the required hand seals and began to churn fire chakra within her belly. Just like some other higher level techniques, she made sure to take her time on the first casting to ensure that nothing went wrong. When she felt that the fire was perfectly sized within her core, she unleashed a roar out into the clearing. Flames erupted from her mouth and enveloped the stony crevice below her. There was a sense of satisfaction and a bit of fright that coursed through her as she witnessed a beautiful and horrifying blaze of fire. She kept watch for several minutes as the flames died out on their own and she decided to fly home. Before she got to the gates, Sera would land and make her wings disappear. Better to save those for the chuunin exams. With a smile of satisfaction she would move to re-enter the village.
