Shoot the Moon!

The Konohagakure Grand Training grounds smelled of fresh rain as Sera walked in through one of the main gates. Having been raised by parents who taught her to constantly be bettering herself, she saw the grounds as a kind of second home. A home that she didn’t love to be at while it rained. Once she saw that the weather was improving she had headed out, and so she was here once again. Sera donned a purple tank top and black athletic wear with matching shoes. She tied her long blonde hair into a ponytail which she found herself partial to while training. Her gigantic bow rested on her back and was usually the first thing that people noticed when they saw her. Now that the weather had improved, she planned on doing some archery practice.

Alright, let’s do this! She mentally pumped herself up.

She proceeded to set up one of the target dummies at one end of the outdoor section of the grounds. Using a couple of markers that were laying around, Sera drew on several circles with various points assigned to them. Once it was finished, she would jog about 100 meters away and begin to take aim. Utilizing her chakra she would knock an arrow and fire it directly towards the center of her target.

'Bunny Arrival' :

Tengoku had left Wolf Manor after checking in on his sister in the west wing. He was retired now but he wanted some way to relax. He had been practicing taijutsu a lot recently to be honest. His ninjutsu, kenjutsu and kyujutsu were lacking. Most of all was his Kyujutsu. So he had brought along the collapsed version of soulstring and his forty barbed chakra arrows. He had slipped into a comfortable outfit. A pair of black pants and shinobi sandals with a loose golden robe over his shoulders. The chest exposed but closed around the belly. Tucked into his robe was a scroll he had taken to keeping on himself with the rest of his armory. Soulstring was carried in his left hand with a large forty arrow quiver over his left shoulder. His right hand tucked lazily into his robes as he yawned. His white hair hung loose around his shoulders and down his back while his white would like ears twitched at sounds hear and there. The smell of rain in the air recently touching on his sensitive nose. It was preferable though as he found it washed away the collective of other scents. Some harsher than rain by a long shot. 

Luckily there was every room one might need at the grand konoha training facility including a mostly unused archery range. He would check in at the front desk before being told only one other genin was using it at the moment. This surprised him a little but he would nod and continue to the range. Once there he would let his eyes scan around. The whites of his eyes black and his iris were each a golden cross brimming with glowing energy. However it didn't take him long for his hawk like eyes to spot the only other person drawing circles on a target before rushing back to a firing spot. A safety lane to keep others from firing into anothers practice. Still she had picked the second shortest of the ranges. Not that he expected more from a genin. Still a hundred meters to a target was good for mid range combat. Anything beyond that relied on a fairly stationary or predictable target. Still Tengoku would remain quiet as the girl notched an arrow and fired at the center of the target. A hundred meters away. An impressive shot for her level. Still he would step forward after it hit. 

"Mind if I share a couple observations?" 

He would state with a warm smile before setting his quiver down. It was thick enough to stand upright on its own. Though the dark arrows were reforged chakra draining metal from Iwa and soulstring was a collapsible bow of superior make. However he wasn't here to chastise. Just eager to help a genin grow and happy to speak with another archer. His wolf like ears twitched slightly as he awaited an answer. Not sure if she would recognize him despite his previous station and obvious signature look.

'Bunny Arrival' :

Bullseye! Sera pumped her fist in victory. Before she had a chance to knock another arrow or take aim again, a voice called out from behind her.  The blonde hunter wasn’t astonished by the sudden noise, but was definitely shocked when she turned and saw who had spoken. Her eyes grew wide with admiration and found herself muttering under her breath; The Paladin of Konoha…

She shook her head to snap her out of it and would answer his question with gusto. “Y-yes of course Sir. Er… Tengoku. Tengoku sir?” Sera stumbled over her words in an attempt to not offend the man. She had heard of his exploits and technically seen him in action fighting against the bijuu recently, though she didn’t know it was him at the time. Anything that he had for her would be invaluable. She eyed his bows and arrows and a smile popped onto her face, extinguishing any nervousness she had previously. He could teach her about archery! "Yes please!" With palpable excitement, she waited for his words of wisdom.

'Bunny Arrival' :

Tengoku would smile softly at her acceptance though his ears would twitch at the sir. He liked some respect but not so much with the authority. He had grown up a shy boy and some parts of it still reflected in his personality. Still he would hold up a hand as she stumbled over calling him sir. A warm tone upon his lips. "Please, just Tengoku. I am retired now and hold no authority over anyone. What was your name?" He would give her a chance to respond before collecting four of his dark S rank arrows. Each one looking dangerous in its own right. Barbed as they were they were designed not to come out of flesh easily. It was the point of chakra draining metal. Still he would move to step up next to her as his free hand shifted out with some force. The bow responding by unfolding and becoming whole. Soulstring was a masterpiece. The lever style limbs of the compound bow designed to give it more force. Still he would speak up again in return. 

"When it comes to simple target practice and some targets center mass is fine. However in my experience it is usually the most armored spot on a person. After all once one hits the rank of chunnin they usually get a flak jacket fairly quickly. Headshots are usually the best option but also one of the most difficult. Debilitating an opponent is still a valid move even if you intend to go in for the kill after. A leg shot is one of my favorites since I am not particularly one for killing if I don't have to. Also one arrow at a time is fine but there are grips to allow for rapid successive shots. Like so."

Tengoku would tuck one arrow into his hand holding the bow alongside the bow in his grip but on the outside of the side the arrows would be on. Keeping the two from conflicting. The other three he would tuck into his fingers. It took some practice and coordination. However he would shift through them at a C rank speed so it was easier to observe. Four arrows in roughly four seconds at four targets. Drawing just enough to cover the distance as he shifted for perfect knee shots on each dummy. Fifty meters, one hundred meters, two hundred meters and four hundred meters one after the other. Then he would nod at his work. And look to see how she was taking the lesson. 

"Try for a single knee shot first. Once you can land three of those in a row, try holding two arrows and try it again."

'Bunny Arrival' :

Sera nodded a bit over enthusiastically as Tengoku told her to drop the formalities and to introduce herself. “My name is Sera Subetemiru, it’s a pleasure to meet you Tengoku.” She would patiently wait and listen closely to the advice that the former hokage had to offer. The wolf-eared man began to explain how practicing shooting the center of a target wasn’t as comparable to an actual fight. In an actual battle you would want to aim for the head for a kill, or the legs for a debilitating shot. He also went on to explain that shooting multiple arrows at a time would increase the likelihood of one hitting. Sera understood this at a fundamental level, but hadn’t spent too much time practicing multi-shots. Tengoku would then demonstrate wielding multiple arrows and shooting multiple targets simultaneously, causing Sera’s jaw to drop in shock. This is incredible!

He prompted her to try for a couple of knee shots and she would comply with a smile. Although she had aimed for the center of the targets, she was confident she could hit a stationary target wherever she wanted, Sera would proceed to pull back her magical bow and fire three shots on three different target dummies, aiming for the knee every time. Each shot would drain a bit of chakra, but the power it gave was incomparable to when she used a normal bow.

Having completed the first assignment, Sera would take two arrows and slowly position them in the same way Tengoku had so they wouldn’t collide with each other. She would then fire both of them at different targets simultaneously. On a success she would pump her fist in victory and turn to Tengoku with a smile. “Awesome! Isn’t archery amazing?”

Tengoku would watch as she would generate arrows from her bow. He could sense her chakra draining with each shot. As she was it was unlikely she could keep up the pace for very long. To his senses there was an aura around her. Nearly transparent and thin. Like a thin smoke around her and through her that was little more than a wisp. Not as low as the average citizen but not much higher either. In comparison his own chakra was like a rapid flow of energy throughout the entire archery range. Threatening to interact with the physical world around them with nearly eight hundred chakra pooled within him. To chakra sensory he was a walking furnace. When he was around someone with active sensory he was polite and suppressed it but otherwise it was taxing to focus on restraining it at all times. Instead he would note that she was a quick learner. Hitting different targets and mimicking the shots he had made. As far as an archer went she was impressive. Some natural talent there. Still he would speak up again with a smile on his face. Not many other people were archers and this was a nice change of pace. 

"Nice shots. You are a quick learner. As for your bow...I suggest having an alternative for drawn out battles. A physical bow and arrow combination. If you need to conserve energy while still engaging the actual arrow is a potent tool."

Tengoku would lift up one of his barbed arrows and spin it between his fingers at a blinding pace. The twirl starting slow and building rapidly until it was moving at S rank coordination. It was true that Tengoku was a show off. He would glance at her with a grin before at S tier coord he loaded and fired an arrow. Without really looking he would hit dead center of the target she originally hit. 

"Borrow one of the training bows and arrows. Practice being used to objects and how their weight and physical interaction with the world differ from chakra. I myself have the ability to see gravity waves. So I see archery in a whole different way."
