    Entering Menza Empty Entering Menza

Post by Gyokusho Sun Nov 12, 2023 12:02 pm

The ride to the hidden village, or not so hidden village to be honest, of Menzagakure was a fairly long one, though again it passed almost as if in a kind of dream state of a fugue. Gyo could, if pressed, recount the path he had taken upon getting there, and he had grate confidence that Gyobu the horserer would likewise be capable of retreading the path, but something about the whole affair felt simply unreal. And not unreal in the same way as when he had been beamed up to the Heavenly Emporium for Lord Okane’s birthday party. That had felt quite surreal, but in a more ‘wow this is unbelievable’ way and less of a falling asleep at the wheel kind of way. Well, falling asleep at the saddle to be more precise. Regardless, the road was long and lonely, with only some inanimate dolls in the back seats and his trusty steed – new and improved – to keep him company. When he made a quick camp, mostly by way of slumming it, he took some time to read, to play music, and to sketch occasionally, but most of the time the path required his attention and he couldn’t afford too much in the way of distractions. He still strummed on his chakra threads from time to time and sang some small ditties, but largely he was forced to do little else but rehearse techniques. It was certainly not within his style to do so as anyone who had witnessed him train and fight would agree he tended to… just not. But either way, with that or profound boredom, he supposed he could practice some of his little puppet tricks.

For some length of time now he had been ruminating on a few uses of chakra threads. His nearly boundless laziness had essentially ensured that he had crafted almost no actual puppets with which to fight, though in his defense he had come up with some blueprints and had a handful of ideas. Generally speaking though, his ideas were more related to the weaponry to put into them than their precise forms, but it was a start nonetheless. Regardless, because he had so few actual weapons and puppets, he had turned his mind to the power that the individual threads he wove could have. Though he had been intermittent, Gyo had slowly been moving into a role something like the weaver of lore, pulling subtle threads in order to manipulate situations to his advantage, and the use of these chakra strands fit that narrative quite nicely. Plus, he had already gone a bit down this path with a few of the techniques he’d already created. A prickle of pride flared up as he remembered a certain fellow puppeteer, a so call “king” of their kind; while talented, Gyo simply could not agree that the boy’s techniques held a candle to his own. He shrugged as he continued to travel on.

First, as was his custom, he warmed up with a little practice round he’d been thinking of for some time. He touched his kimono, threading his chakra string through the fabric and pulling, twisting, and rewiring the weave and weft. Good thing he’d spent nearly all of his ninja career working through his crafting, which made this exercise fairly simple. He did find though that by altering the chakra he put into his garment that the was able to not only change the shape of the clothing, but he could alter it such that it became slightly larger, as well as fold it up on itself to thicken it and shrink the outward appearance. Differing amounts of chakra allowed him to redye the material as well, and by combining all of these aspects he could completely reclothe himself while simultaneously embellishing his garb in any way he saw fit. He could change the pattern, add embroidery, and nearly anything else. It had no real combat uses beyond making a pocket or sewing an item into some clothing, but it was very cool either way.

He giggled to himself more loudly than necessary as he attached a thread to his kimono once again and simply began unraveling it, resulting in him having nothing on but his underclothing. What an absurd thought to simply unravel another’s clothing. His thoughts went to dark and erotic places for a moment, but he threw back his head and laughed whole heartedly once again at the notion of disrobing an enemy mid combat! He would not personally be embarrassed, though the loss of some of his tools vanishing would be annoying, but he could imagine many enemies becoming completely unsettled by something so simple and so otherwise natural. Pulling himself back together from his bout of laughter, he moved on to a few things perhaps a bit more useful in the heat of battle. Some inkling in him told him that he was going to need a few of these combat spells at the ready in the nearer than farther future and a bit of practice would go a long way. Maybe he should have been picking up a few more puppets along the way…

No matter. He once more attached his threads to his own clothing and simply squeezed. He found himself feeling some mild discomfort, but there was something better here he would need to work through in order to fully maximize the potency of the technique that he had been cooking up inside the inner confines of his sinister mind. He ran the thread more carefully through the robe to better ensnare himself, but found that he was using too much of the length of his spool so to speak and so he would need to do something else. This next go around he would weave it into the very threads themselves and somewhat like a puppet he would have the strand take control and dominion over the important central threads which controlled the entire make up of the clothing. He funneled more and more chakra into it to reinforce the fibers and then pulled. Instantly he felt his body constrict and he felt as if he was being crushed by his own hand. He laughed slightly which was choked out of him as the cage of his ribs restricted but soon enough he allowed the thread to relax and ended the technique. He had recently been coming to learn of the ability to simply amplify some of his techniques through a greater expenditure of chakra, something which was not exactly a novel concept but which was much more effective when used on technique he had created himself rather than those which he had learned from a dusty old scroll. Very peculiar of the universe to work in such a way to say the least, but he did not dwell on it.

This gave him as these exercises so often did a new idea for another ability or really an extension of the ability that his technique had given him. He did not personally have any armor but he was able to imagine how the armor he might have been wearing above his robe would work and how it would fit together with his kimono as well as with the strands and ropes and such and how they allowed the armor theoretically to work together as a single unit and disperse the force which came its way. Just by using the same principles of destroying his clothing – which of course he was able to quickly repair thanks to the very first technique he had created – he could use it to destroy a piece of armor and likely even a puppet. He paused to examine one of the Momo puppets but found that he might need a separate technique for such a complicated execution. Still, if he could unweave the clothing of his opponents by getting a string attached to them, he could similarly unweave more defensive versions of such armors and clothing and such. Mostly he figured that even in circumstance where he was unable to completely destroy a piece of armor, such as masterfully crafted things that Lord Okane made, he would instead damage the armor greatly. Once again borrowing upon the prior revelation of increasing the chakra output to amplify the abilities of his techniques, he would additionally be capable of creating more extreme damage upon an armor piece at his election which should be capable of getting even the strongest of armors, including legendary X rank items, to become degraded enough that one of his other tools, for example his new drilling item, would be able to piece through them. This would bode quite well.

Another thought occurred to him as he resumed his travels and he attached a thread to the sword held in the idle and lifeless hand of one of the Momo’s. He pulled and tugged, trying to get a better feel for how powerfully he was able to make the movement. Manipulating the puppet and its articulations was not something that presented any kind of problem to him any longer as he was for all intents and purposes a complete master of the arts of puppetry at this point not that he was the absolute best but that he was extremely proficient and boarding upon being unable for another to be able to rival him. However more direct manipulation of items he had attempted quite a bit less and so now was a good moment. He first would move the sword out of the grasp, using jerking motions to throw the sword to and fro, back and forth and in and out of the puppets graps. If it got too far he could enliven the puppet to have it manually pick it back up, but the more he practiced the easier it was for him to get the abilities down and soon he was throwing it with the expert precisions one would expect from someone with such great coordination as he and really which any puppeteer should have. Then, but increasing the chakra flow once more he was able to increase the torque and force and power of his little manuever. While he was not incredibly powerful himself in fact he was quite weak from a strength perspective but it did not terribly matter because he could augment it with his chakra. He had familiarity with the strong though especially Tsumi and so he had a relatively good grasp for how much force would or might be needed to fully remove an item from the grasp of even the strongest of shinobi and thus he would be able to do that as well. He also was able to understand that if anyone attempted to block such an attack through sheer exertion of their strength the would take some damage as the violent action of an item they were holding would be quite dangerous regardless of how strong they were but it would more matter how resilient they were. This too would be very useful. He also supposed that he would be able to make us of it based on his use of it against amrors as well which could be powerfully dangerous too.

Now for something a touch more devious. He would make use of chakra thread to directly combat chakra abilities as well as the ability of others to use their chakra to make similar manipulations as he could with his puppets. In fact this should be quite powerful when used against other puppeteers, but also with anyone who made heavy use of powerful devices and engineering items, even simple things such as mobilities devices or any other contraction. Chakra absorbers would also have a difficult time making use of these abilities in the face of this technique. Essentially by attaching his threads to an item he would pump a great deal of chakra down it to cause damage to the inner mechanisms within the device and disrupt the proper functioning. He attached a very weak thread of his to a sword, then another one. He sent the pulse down the one, which in turn traveled up the other connected thread, snapping it and giving him a little bit of an unpleasant shock to his finger. It smarted, but more chakra would cause large damage.

All the while, he was formulating his ultimate expression of his own puppetry, a way of controlling and manipulating a battlefield expertly to his own ends. By using a wide array of puppets, allies, confusions among enemies, and any number of other factors to his advantage he would be able not necessarily to overpower an enemy but more so to properly ensure them, restricting their options and movements and removing, damaging, and eliminating any advantages that they might have. Numbers, statistical differences, bloodlines, nothing would prevent him from the slow march to victory and unlike a traditional puppeteer he would happily maneuver himself as well if need be. Such a style though would require great insights and a deep knowledge of tactics and as he went through developing these technique it was as if he could feel himself gaining the abilities to more effectively manage the complexities of the battlefield and when necessary overwhelm his opponent. The perceptive abilities of his inborn eyes would greatly aid in this as well.

On the next day after a well deserved rest, he would ride happily into the village of Menza, less of a military strong hold like Kiri and Kumo and more of a quaint place protected more by its hidden nature and the foreboding lore and happenings of the location.
