Appearance: The appearance of Hotaru Tetsudashi is a mystery to many, his style shifting so wildly from day to day even people who have known him for years tend to have difficulty recognizing him at times. Metal jewelry and steel spikes, or soft flowers and shades of green, anything and everything can and will be experimented with. Even his hair hasn’t been spared- the tips of his long blue-black bangs have been dyed turquoise to match his eyes, and are kept in neat little braids much of the time.
History: While bloodlines mixing is rare, it is not entirely unheard of. Tetsudashi Hotaru is one of those rare few shinobi who pisses not one, but two clan bloodlines. Born to a young Crystal clansmen and a kunoichi of the steel bloodline, Hotaru was held to the highest of standards even as a baby. While he was not a clan heir, he trained just as hard as one might, his parents determined to raise him into the kind of individual who could easily become a powerful member of both bloodlines. Hotaru despised the constant studying as a young child, resenting others who got to go outside and play, having fun and acting freely. He wanted what they had, and eventually turned to rebellion.
By the time he was 8 years old, he’d gained a reputation for trouble. None of the tutors his parents hired ever wanted to deal with him, though he was brilliant when it came to handling a training bow. The only subject he willingly wanted to learn, and the only thing he really seemed to excel at, was archery. Everything else was met with disinterest and outright disobedience. Eventually, when he was 10, his parents had had enough and decided to enroll him in the academy. If anybody could tame a bratty child, surely teachers who had to deal with hyperactive shinobi children could, right? Wrong. He was even worse at the academy.
He first showed signs of having the Tetsudashi bloodline at age 11, when a kid made fun of him and he promptly decked them with a fist covered in steel. He was nearly expelled for good that day, only the fact that he had no idea how to use his bloodline saving him. He hadn’t intended to use the steel, anyways. From then on any training he dealt with was even more intense, to his own great annoyance.
It was three years later at age 14 that he successfully graduated the academy. He wasn’t really allowed to do missions more complicated than D ranks, and nobody would let him learn better jutsu, but he was a genin. He at least had some power over himself now, since he could at least make his own money and choose what he wanted to learn to some extent.
Ecstatic at this realization, Hotaru threw himself into archery. Steering himself away from clan techniques and towards his real passion, he spent the next two years training. At 16 he was able to go on C ranked missions, to his own delight, and finally decided it was time to remove as much of his parent’s influence over him as possible. Managing to discretely rent a tiny apartment, the young genin has effectively run away from home and refuses to speak to his parents.
Personality: Hotaru has always been the kind of person to enjoy annoying and trolling anybody who interacts with him. The more seriously a person takes themselves, the more likely Hotaru is to be an annoying goblin around them. He cares very little for rules and traditions, rarely following anything he deems as too boring. Restless in nature, he cannot sit still for long, nor would he even attempt to in most scenarios. Woe be to those who attempt to restrain him, as he’ll attempt all manner of ways to wriggle out of it, including annoying the person into letting him go.
That said, Hotaru is a very kind person by nature. He’s got a great deal of empathy, especially for animals, and although humans are often on the receiving ends of his pranks, he’s unfailingly kind to animals. He’s fond of canines and birds in particular, and can often be seen in the company of one or the other when he’s not busy avoiding responsibilities and annoying everybody who knows him to death. Feeding strays and various birds has become a favorite hobby of his, to the point where he’s adamant about the time he spends doing said activities alone.
