With the new life breathed into Sunagakure, trade routes of old begun being traveled once more. Large caravans of goods shipped between the Hidden Village of Kaze no Kuni and the likes of The Land of Rivers crossed the vast desert, and would make easy pickings for bandits roaming the sands if left unprotected. Sunagakure assigned shinobi to protect these caravans. Due to the village's lack of shinobi, particularly Chuunin, a Jounin had been assigned to protect this one--the group of traders, merchants, and transporters found themselves in capable hands.

The Desert Rogue as he was known, walked aside the long line of carts and wagons, sharp eyes out. It'd take some time, this caravan was a snail compared to how quickly Azuma could get from one place to another. But Azuma had a job to do, and he'd do this job within the best of his abilities...which was fairly high for the job. Typically Chuunin would do this, but Azuma found himself here instead.

The creaking of wooden wheels crossing the sand burned Azuma's ear as he paced the caravan, about 10 meters or so to the side of it. He was wearing a thin light tan shroud/cloak over his shoulders, hooded to cover his head from the harsh Sun over the Desert, it flapping loosely in the wind off the man's figure as they traveled. This was over his more casual outfit, a white Yukata with the front mostly opened, showing most of his chest and bandages crossing the man's stomach. Under his sleeves, his right arm was completely bandaged, covering wounds from a prior conflict.

The sleeves hid his armor, Steel Arm guards adorned the man's forearms down to his wrists and even over the back of his hand. His black pants though durable was very flexible and loose, they too alike his Yukata and shroud would be caught in the namesake of the country, flying in the strong gusts across the desert. Not to hidden was his shin guards, fixed over his pants, which ended near his ankles--a bit higher. He was lightly armored, no use for stealth when in a huge caravan. He truly looked the part for his title, 'The Desert Rogue', one glance at him would tell he was from Sunagakure, even without looking at his headband--currently tied about his waist. Of course as always, the man was ready for battle, equipment on hand for anything thrown at him.

Azuma would move about the Caravan, at times speeding up to catch the front and watch from there, other times finding vantage points on tall dunes and waiting, keeping watch from there, as the caravan would trek the valley below. At best Azuma saw nothing, at worst he'd catch glimpses of what could be bandits, only to watch them turn tail at the sight of the shinobi...Azuma was slowly becoming more known in the world, especially within the Desert, and after wiping out a group of Bandits attempting to enter Sunagakure only a few days prior, he had a bit of notoriety among the sand thieves.

Eventually the sun was setting, and the caravan grew tired of travel, not wishing to go at it in the dark. They settled in, a large but temporary camp was established, many bonfires lighting up the desert, offsetting the light given by the now waning crescent moon, having been full that night he'd taken care of the group of bandits along side his old teammate Ei. The camp had settled in a bit of a valley, a choice by Azuma to keep it more hidden, while a ridge overhead provided him a great vantage point to keep guard.

Azuma sat atop this cliff in the desert, mismatched eyes peering out across the sandy basin below, dotted by wagons--people--bonfires--and their livestock. A gentle sigh passed the mans lips as he lifted his gaze, looking to the moon and the stars above. "...Another night under the fading moonlight." he mumbled to himself, bringing a knee up to rest his hands around his knee, the other leg out--hanging over the cliff's edge as he sat. From the right angle, this would provide an amazing portrait of Azuma, sitting on the cliff under the crescent moon.

Eventually Azuma needed to rest to. He wasn't the epitome of Stamina afterall. He'd gather 4 of the most vigilant men of the Caravan he could find, maybe between 8 pairs of eyes they could meet Azuma's perception and handle watching over the caravan while Azuma got some rest. His rest wasn't to be long, but it was enough for the man to keep going once he did.

The following morning the Caravan was ready to roll before daybreak, and Azuma once more stood over the basin atop the cliff, ready for the new day. By the end of the day they will have reached the Land of Rivers, and guard duty was passed off to them. As the sun peeked over the horizon, it lit the dusty trail left by many wagons and carts crossing the sands, and Azuma once more paced them, keeping his eyes trained on the goal.

The travels had gone smoothly, Azuma's presence alone warded off the stray bandits he'd occasionally spot from afar, and as late afternoon set in nothing had happened the whole trip. But as with anything that seemed to smooth to be true, reality had to throw a wrench into the spokes. The Desert Rogue walked aside a wagon near the middle of the caravan, Azuma thanking one of the men who'd help keep an eye out the night before, when a loud sound echoed across the dunes.

Two bombs had gone off near the front of the caravan, not close enough to cause any damage or harm to those leading the train of goods, but instantly halting their progress. Before the dust even settled, Azuma could be seen darting at top speed across the tops of wagons and carts as he raced towards the front, each push of his feet carrying him closer. He took a leap high into the air, wishing to gain a birds eye view of what was going on, eyes focusing and scanning for the source of these aggressive actions.

He could see where the two bombs went off, and as the dust begun dispersing, he would make out a group now standing behind the unsettled desert sands. Azuma landed on the front wagon, eyes narrowed forward as the dust slowly settled and the air cleared. Before him was a group of 10 bandits, all armed to the teeth, and one even cloaked in armor, likely their leader.

"Don't worry, we only want what we can carry. Give us your most valuable items and you can go on your way with the rest...or we can get rid of all of you and tell our buddies to come help us with the whole haul. Your choice pals."

The voice of the armor clad thief burned Azuma's ears, but garnered no reaction from the shinobi. Of course the civilians was getting antsy behind him, a man directly behind Azuma on the wagon he stood on visibly shaking at the sight of the thugs. An annoyed sigh came from Azuma...he was right back in almost the same situation, faced against a group of thieves...but this time he was alone, he had no backup like before. Ei had cleaned house with her Genjutsu last time, even if Azuma had them cornered. But now he didn't have her support, and was bound by duty to protect the lives of those behind the man. Unluckily for Azuma, these guys seemed much more serious then the ragtag bandits before. Azuma could see from here they posed much more a threat.

With the odds against him Azuma stepped forward, leaping gently from the front wagon of the caravan and landing softly in the sand. He'd start walking towards the group, a steady but average pace towards the 10 bandits, roughly 100m away. This earned the attention of the thieves leader, the armor clad bandit glaring at the approaching Desert Rogue. The bandit smirked at Azuma.

"Guess we have a tough guy...Don't underestimate him boys, he looks to be a Shinobi of Sunagakure." called the bandit out to his buddies. Azuma would lift his head to look up from the valley to the dune the group stood atop, and a gust of wind would rip his shroud from his head, blowing away into the desert to never be seen again. This would reveal the man's face, his long black locks taken by the wind, pushed to the side with the gusts. Amber and off-white eyes peered straight into the eyes of his enemy. This sent a shiver down the bandit's spine. "...The Desert Rogue. In the flesh." the bandit said, clearly recognizing the Jounin. While the bandit was saying this, Azuma was using his headband to tie back his hair, keeping it out of his face--ready for battle.

Azuma's stance widened, dust kicked up as his feet slid apart. A scroll hidden up his sleeve slid to the man's hand, and with a quick flick of his thumb, it opened partially, enough to show the first seal. With a touch of chakra the seal activated, and Azuma's Naginata appeared in a cloud of smoke, the man once more replacing the scroll up his sleeve, and taking grip of his weapon of choice. He'd lower himself down, coiled and ready to spring, weapon at the ready.

((--Que Theme Song.-- While not official, attributing B-tier Intel to the leader and overall claiming he's nigh equal to Azuma in stats/power, call him C++ class. His lackies are D+ class. Again, these are just head-stats for NPCs, giving myself a basis for how they stack up to Azuma.))

A battlecry was heard, a call to charge, and a total of six out of the ten bandits would rush forward towards Azuma. Azuma let go of his weapon with one hand, it forming a hand seal as the group crossed the distance between them. Azum'a body was bombarded by his Raiton Chakra, energizing it, enhancing his muscles greatly, and lightning begun to arc in random patterns about his person. "Kaminari no Manto"--Azuma's Cloak of Thunder(+2 tiers to Speed). A further string of hand seals came in about a second, Tiger-Rat-Dragon, and chakra would shift to Azuma's eyes, this being his Raiden no Kokei--Sight of Raiden(+1 Tier to Perception). His hand gripped his weapon once more and he leaned forward slowly, almost lazily letting his body fall foward, before bursting forth with S-Class speed, the ball of his feet digging into the dirt and leaving a trail of dust in his wake.

This burst of speed couldn't even be perceived by those rushing at him, using Azuma's newly mastered Kudakeru Nami, the Crushing Wave Style(+1 to Coordination, +1 tier to Strength), Azuma sent a powerful swing of his blade towards the one leading the group of six charging him. Azuma landed behind the group, having passed them with such speed they only just now caught sight of him behind them. It was this moment the fist in line crumbled, head taken clean off by the might of Azuma's Naginata. A stray 'bastard' could be heard as a bandit formed a hand seal, forcing two walls of earth to sprout out flanking either side of Azuma. Azuma would charge his Lightning chakra into his Naginata, letting a Chidori-based coat of chakra light his blade ablaze in its electrical power. Chidori Katana...

These earthen walls would clap together, trying to smash Azuma between. Before they managed to close, both split in half, cut clean through by the Lightning amped Naginata, now cutting with A++ power, and naturally strong against Earth Jutsu. The cut walls slid apart cleanly and Azuma leaped up from within them, high above his enemies heads--the man spun upside-down, eyes marking his targets. A hand slipped to his thigh and withdrew a number of Kuna just before this leapi. Four to be certain. Azuma would throw 3 of them, two hitting their mark and mortally wounding his attackers, causing those two to join their headless peer on the desert floor. The third was blocked by a Katana, sending it straight into the sand. Azuma would place the fourth kunai in his mouth and let go of his Naginata, it keeping close enough to grab onto afterwords.

Azuma would form 4 hand seals in under a second, the boosts to his coordination between his styles and unique abilities making these seals fast. Hare>Tiger>Bird>Tiger>Dragon. Lightning chakra was pushed into the kunai he held in his mouth, and as he gripped onto his Naginata with both hands, he'd flick his head, launching the kunai from his mouth.

The kunai landed among the remaining 3, hitting the ground between them. They looked at it, expecting a bomb, or inspecting if he'd just missed. "Kaminari Chikei" Azuma called out as Lightning energy erupted from the charged Kunai. It would radiate outwards in a bubble for 30 meters, but invisible aside from small arcs of lightning across the ground. Azuma's Lightning Terrain took effect. Those caught in it felt their entire bodies effected by it, causing them to loose a degree of control over their muscles, lessening their speed and coordination. Azuma landed just 5 meters from the group of three, low to the ground with his Naginata in hand.

He remained unaffected by his own jutsu, the chakra signature unique to the man saving him from its negative effects...too bad for those trapped inside. Azuma would rush forth, causing the man with a Katana to try to defend himself. Azuma's blade ripped straight through the inferior sword, slicing it like butter, and on the come around swing of the spin of his Naginata, the blunt end slammed the man across the face, easily breaking his jaw and downing him. Another man would send a spinning kick towards Azuma, but only met the handle of his weapon, blocked by the young Jounin. By now one of the lackys left with the boss was getting antsy, and started rushing towards the battle too.

Azuma would throw the man back after blocking the kick, a swift push sending momentum through the man's leg and launching him away. The last of the three he'd initially trapped tried to stab Azuma in the back, but a quick spin would bring Azuma's arm into the path of the kunai, his arm guard easily deflecting it with its B++ class hardness. Azuma used this spin to bring his weapon around, another head would be removed from its former host. Azuma stood among now five dead, and one injured. With a quick jab of his blade downward, he'd finish off the man who's jaw he broke moments before.

Just about then Azuma turned, his sensing abilities telling him he had another incoming, just as the man entered Azuma's Lightning Terrain's field and instantly felt the effects. Azuma and this man clashed weapons, but with a bit more force, Azuma's blade made butter out of the bandit's weapon too, and crossed deeply into the enemy's chest, easily striking organs with the powerful blade. Now the man was among seven dead, but he was feeling the effects of chakra usage. To conserve energy, he deactivated his Cloak of Thunder, the arcs of lightning about his form ceasing to exist. But he had a plan...taking a hand from his weapon and holding it high, the man would take as little chakra as needed, charging it into his palm aimed skyward. "Raijingu Arashi..." Azuma whispered, followed by him launching a charge of Purple Lightning high above, and letting it disperse into the clouds.

Blood on the Trader's Trail Empty Re: Blood on the Trader's Trail

Post by Azuma Asakaze Wed Feb 05, 2020 4:33 pm

By now the caravan had almost made a spectator sport of watching the battle, for some it was the first time they'd seen a skilled shinobi in action--for others they just wanted to see if their guard could fulfill his duty to keep them safe. The armor clad bandit looked from his vantage point, the confidence wiped from his features and replaced with anger and distaste. Azuma looked to the three remaining, locking eyes with their leader. By now he was about 50 meters from them. It was now that Azuma's Lightning Terrain wore off, and faded. Azuma took a moment to collect his weapons, re-holstering his kunai, likely as the bandit leader formed a plan for him and his remaining two lackies. Azuma was fine with this lull in the action, he in fact was banking on it. He didn't have the chakra left to take on all three of them. But soon enough...he would...

Ever since he'd released his last jutsu, clouds had been forming above...darkening the skies in a thick layer of gray clouds, and soon enough...they opened up. Thunder roared across the landscape, and everyone of the caravan looked up. Rain fell on their faces, first softly, but soon enough it was a full blown rain storm, and Lightning arced from Cloud to Earth in loud and bright flashes. Azuma had manipulated the weather, and once more brought a storm over the Desert. This amazed the hundreds gathered by the caravan, even a few cheers brought by the powerful shift in the battlefield, bringing relief to the harsh Desert.

Azuma knew this was the time. He'd once more raise his hand towards the sky, spreading his feet wide to ground himself firmly, his enemies watching on, wandering what the Jounin would do next. In a flash, Lightning burst from the clouds overhead, and would strike Azuma's hand, bending the Lightning to his will and trapping some of its power within. This refreshed a quarter of the man's total Chakra as he converted the lightning he trapped inside him to amp his own chakra reserves. The sight of this caused silence among the 'crowd', only broken by whispers. 'He used the lightning itself', 'The man has timed the power of a storm', 'He bent Lightning to his will' was shared among the caravanners, and even his enemies had similar thoughts.

"Impressive...Shall I call you Sabaku no Arashi from now on?" the bandit leader called out, almost mockingly nicknaming Azuma. Azuma had no reaction to the taunt, but those in the caravan picked up on the new name. Soon, they chanted, Azuma's ears burning. 'Get them Sabaku no Arashi! Show them thugs why they don't mess with Sunagakure!' was called out loudly from behind Azuma. He seemed to have some fans...but this was no time to even think of it, all Azuma had on his mind was ending this fight.

Azuma took the initiative now, and charged forth, his speed less then last time, but still formidable. To the lackies Azuma was just a blur, but their leader could see much better. Azuma tried to go for a straight forward attack, hoping his speed may cover his strike. He launched himself towards the three of them and took a wide arching swing with his Naginata, hoping to lop off three heads in one go. Sadly, Azuma's weapon met with the leader's own--a Yari--and was blocked. He had no time to be shocked, the blade of a Kusarigama swung his way from a lacky on the side forced Azuma to evade, jumping back. He didn't react quick enough through, and his left arm was sliced as he moved away. He landed a few meters away, blood trailing from the fresh cut on his left upper arm. It wasn't anything serious, but didn't feel great.

Now he was on the defense, Azuma was pushed by both the lackies at once, having to deflect their attacks. All the while the armor clad leader wielding a Yari jumped into the fray, catching Azuma off guard in the scramble. The tip of the bandit's Yari aimed for Azuma's face, the Jounin barely able to pull back enough to avoid a harsh strike, but the tip still sliced his cheek and let blood slowly slide down his face. Azuma needed out of range of them for a moment, but the attacks kept coming, the three of them going after Azuma in a fairly coordinated manner, and their leader was almost on par with Azuma as is.

Azuma tried to block everything he could, but as the assault went on, he'd catch small cuts and knicks here and there, his arms and legs. Luckily his arm and shin guards protected Azuma from a lot of these attacks that managed to come through. Azuma was being pushed too hard and would break if he couldn't find his way out. Thinking fast the man suddenly dropped low and spun his weapon over his head, all the while charging it with chakra from a Chidori, it ablaze with strong Lightning Chakra. The threat level had went up and it would force the three attackers to back off, needing to avoid this Chidori Katana coated blade. This was Azuma's chance, a fluid movement from the spinning Naginata saw it continue spinning about his form as he leaped back, flipping while spinning with it, before landing gracefully a good distance away.

Azuma would find the two lackies charge after him, but now that had had a moment to breathe, he was ready for them. With a violent strike he'd cut them both down, one was sliced clear in half by Azuma's enhanced blade. Azuma locked eyes with the remaining bandit, their leader...but surely he would be no pushover, even if he was only barely more skilled then the rest, his armor made him a hard egg to crack. Azuma took his blade and held it at the ready behind him with one hand, while leaving a free hand forward. He'd suddenly push this hand high, and call forth another bolt of Lightning from the Sky. The speed of the bolt was insane, and it hit Azuma nigh instantly after his movement.

This time, Azuma wasn't using it to gather more chakra, no, this time Azuma was bending Lightning to his will for another reason. The man was using the natural Lightning to amp his Raiton chakra, boosting its power. Trying to use the moment of distraction on Azuma's part, the bandit rushed forth, charging his Yari using the Chakra Flow technique, enhancing it with lightning chakra. Azuma wasn't the only Lightning user on the battlefield. This amped the Yari's piercing power, and he lunged for Azuma. Azuma lifted his weapon to defend, and barely caught the length of the enemy's Yari's handle with his own Naginata's handle, pushing its trejectory upwards and to the side. This went from a shot aimed for the heart to jabbing into and through Azuma's shoulder.

Blood flew from the attack, Azuma wincing an eye shut as the pain ripped through his nerves system. He'd manage to push back his attacker, gaining some distance, Azuma stumbling back, and blood now flowing down his arm and torso from the gash on his shoulder. It was only a glancing blow, but still has took a good chunk of Azuma's shoulder with it. This didn't look good for the shinobi, he was now diminished, his arm was only half as effective now with a bit of the muscle used to move it gone with the strike. Azuma stepped back a bit more, garnering a smirk in his opponent at the sign of retreat. "Is this all The Desert Rogue can do? My name will be known across the lands after I kill you!" yelled the armor clad bandit.

Azuma had one more ace up his sleeve, and it was time to use it. The Desert Rogue formed a tiger seal with one hand, while Azuma dropped his Naginata with the other, letting it fall to the ground. He couldn't make great use of it with an injured arm. He had activated his Cloak of Thunder once more, amping his body's power. This tempted the bandit, thinking Azuma was giving up. He'd charge for Azuma, lunging at the man with his Yari. "DIE!"

Azuma's better working arm would go low, hand contorting in single handed hand seals, three of them. Ox--Rabit--Monkey, before his palm went open. Raiton chakra formed into the man's palm, violently bursting to life. This Raikiri was stronger, its power amped by the Natural Lightning Azuma had flowing through him. In a bust of speed, once more reaching S-class, Azuma went forth, his Raikiri thrust towards his enemy.

A bolt of lightning from the skies signaled the moment of impact, lighting up the darkened skies and battlefield as Azuma's Raikiri went straight through the enemy's Yari, the S++ powered Raikiri ripped right through it, straight down the pole, and to its wielder. Azuma and the armor clad bandit would come to land 'Post-clash showdown style', each of them standing with their backs to each other. Azuma's Raikiri was dying down, before fizzling out...and in a moment, the armor of his enemy burst open, falling from their torso...A direct hit right through the armor and to the heart. "Damn...you..." was all that was muttered by the bandit before they dropped, falling dead on top the dune they fought on.

Azuma stood, still in his landing pose, breathing heavily from exerting himself so much. He deactivated all his Jutsu, or rather they was forced off by lack of chakra to maintain them. Azuma was suffering the effects of exhaustion, doubled by the fact he'd used his Echoing Thunder ability to regain chakra earlier. He nearly collapsed, but managed to stand tall, tilting his head back and letting the rain soak his face. Azuma was met with loud cheers and laughter, chants of 'The Desert Rogue' and 'Storm of the Desert' rung out from the caravan crowd who'd witnessed this battle. A couple with basic first aid skills ran from the crowd and came to Azuma's aid, about the time they reached him the Shinobi dropped, passing out from the blood loss caused by the wound on his shoulder, aided by the other number of cuts along his limbs and torso.

Azuma awoke in a wagon, looking up at now the night sky. The sun had just dipped below the horizon when he was passed out, and now he was all stitched and bandaged up--a small gift from those he protected--and was met with smiles upon seeing him awake. They had gathered his things for him, one with limited knowledge in Fuuinjutsu even had put away Azuma's weapon into the scroll. After a bit of rest...the Jounin returned to duty, and kept a vigilant eye out as they traveled. By midnight, they had crossed into the Land of Rivers, and guard was passed on to another small group of Chuunin. Before the people of the caravan had a chance to say thanks or goodbye to Azuma, he'd find him turned back and heading back into the desert, The Desert Rogue illuminated under the fading moon's light as he left alone without a word...a ode to the wandering nature of Azuma.

    --Exit back to Sunagakure--
