- Doing the Practical Illusions Mission, D-Rank.
Finally a mission up his ballpark!
When Yoru got the mission slip from the Mizukage's office, he had been more than just a tad excited about his assigned task. The chance to teach Genjutsu to the next generation of shinobi? He was all about that! Yoru hustled back to the Ninja Academy, speaking briefly with the Vice Principal as he had before when helping as a nurse. The official seemed fairly eager to see a familiar face in the form of Yoru, inviting him into the academy and to the class he'd be teaching. They were on the younger side, no more than perhaps 8 at the oldest, practically fresh entrants into the academy. They were rough stone, but hopefully that stone would in turn give way to something magical!
"Good morning class, my name is Sensei Yoru." He introduced, beginning the class promptly, education was a priority in life, or so he believed. The class, being full of still-adorable 8-year-olds, spoke in unison, "Good morning Sensei" they chanted. It brought a tugging smile to Yoru's face. "Today, I'm here to teach some of the finer points of Genjutsu usage. Tell me, has your primary teacher taught you all of the basics about Yin chakra and the 5 senses?" He asked, getting a feel for the experience level that the class was at. The children raised their hands all at once. Good, they knew the essentials, that meant he could get a bit more in-depth and impart some knowledge.
"Almost any shinobi can create External genjutsu, the kind that anyone can see so long as they are in a fixed area. However, these are also the most confining of genjutsu. To grow as a specialist, you will need to understand the basics of affecting a person's internal perception via the senses, focusing on them rather than the world around them. Now, I will need a volunteer." Yoru started, watching as the hands shot up again. He picked a quiet looking boy near the middle of the class, inviting them to stand at the front. "You see this apple? What color is it?" He asked, holding the fruit in front of him. The child frowned, "I-It's blue" He said. Yoru turned to the rest of the class, "What color is it?" He asked, earning a loud, "Red!", from them all.
"Thus is the assignment for today. Pair up and go down to the training field outside and take turns affecting each other's individual senses until you can force your partner to see a different color of apple. This is the most basic exercise in internal genjutsu creation." Yoru explained, watching as the children lined up and walked with him down to the training ground.
The rest of the class would go on through learning-by-doing. Yoru would step in once and while to provide individual guidance, but at the end of it all, the children were learning by practicing. No lesson could substitute practical experience.
Once the school day ended, Yoru bid farewell to his former student and returned to the Mizukage's building, reporting his mission as a success.
