Name: Menza
Alias: The Cursed One
Occupation: Chief Engineer for The Enlightened Society of Rebirth and ReorderingTheme Menza considered his work to be play and his play to be work. When you spent most of your life catering to the whims and wishes of someone else, your perspective about leisure and employment tended to change. For Menza, anything he did was fun because he wanted to do it. No one could make him do anything he did not want to do. So if he needed to work it was because he decided that was something he needed to do. And if he decided to have fun, then that was also a product of his own choice. It was free will that defined him at this stage of his life, and it was something he guarded with vicious tenacity. Favors were rare, and when he obligated himself to someone else he always did so because he expected that they would not abuse that privilege. To abuse it would make him a slave to their incessant demands. He would need to help them otherwise he would be going back on his word, which in turn would him an unfaithful and unreliable liar. For a man who valued freedom, this was an unacceptable conundrum. Thus, he only held himself out for quid pro quo outside of an explicit contract to those whom he found "trustworthy". Trustworthy in Menza's mind meant not intelligent enough to take advantage of him and not weak enough to need his help every five minutes. Menza liked to think of himself as a superb judge of character and not once had he been proved wrong in this field. So when Yui called him for the second time in a row without first fulfilling her outstanding debt to him, he was disappointed and irritated. Annoyed that she would do such an immature and irresponsible thing, and bothered that he had been incorrect in his prediction that she would not call for him anytime soon.
The desperation in her voice, however, made him wroth. He didn't care for her well-being per se but he knew that there were few problems that she couldn't simply blast her way out of. If she was this scared then it had to be something truly frightening. Menza had long speculated that the world was overdue for a Bijuu crisis, and while he wasn't certain of when he knew it would happen sooner or later. The Cursed One's immense intellect and deep understanding of the state of the world allowed him to surmise that what he was being summoned to help fight in this long-predicted Bijuu attack. It was a grave threat to his life and the lives of many others. Thus, Menza began forming seals before he was teleported to her location.
The Cursed One warped into space directly in front of them. The moment he appeared, he completed the final seal and loosed a technique. Menza's intelligence took over and allowed him to accurately predict the beast's moveset and how it was going to strike only after a millisecond of appearing on the battlefield. Kurama was now playing against an opponent that was just as tactically aware as he was.
Menza used Great Moving Earth Core to open up a massive hole right where Kurama aimed to strike his fist. The beast's hand and arm plummeted into the ground. He struck the bottom of the hole and the entire Earth rumbled in response. It was perhaps enough to knock everyone else off their feet if they weren't prepared, but other than that it generated no shockwave. Kurama's strike had not hit the surface of the ground that they were standing on, thus sparing them of a gruesome fate.
More.Yui had never seen Menza in such a serious and determined state. In their rare encounters, he had been jovial, concerned, helpful, friendly, and solemn. He had not once expressed a decisively negative emotion. Now that the former assistant was facing a gargantuan being that threatened to kill him and Yui, he was all business. Menza guessed that Yui did not just bring him here just to save her though. He could tell by the candor of her voice and the presence of others that she wanted Kurama dealt with. He could also tell by the landscape and geography that he was in Fire Country which meant this beast likely posed an existential threat to Konoha, and by extension Taichi and possibly other loved ones. It would have been a simple matter for Menza to save her and himself, but he was a man of his word. He had given her the ability to call for his aid and so he would lend a hand in subduing or at least slowing down the beast. But the cost would be tremendous. More on that later.
Menza the Cursed One flickered through a set of hand seals and slammed his hands on the ground just as the beast was pulling its arm out of the hole. Kurama moved forward only for two enormous rock formations to sprout from the ground and catch the beast mid-leap. By all accounts, the Fox should have died right then and there. The formations would have been big enough to blot out the sun if it was daylight. They were designed to capture the Ten-Tails and Kurama for all his might was still smaller than the Juubei. The Nine-Tailed Fox had stretched out his hands on both sides and had dedicated each of his tails to stopping the formations from crushing him. It was clear that the beast was holding the pillars back with everyting he had. He had prevented them from coming together to squash him like a bug but it was taking all of his strength and focus. Kurama's eyes were bloodshot and the veins in his arms bulged as he fought for his life. The momentum of the formation had been halted but at his size, if he so much as slipped he'd likely still be seriously injured. The technique was one of Iwagakure's finest and as such Menza had made a point of learning it. The symbol on this great gate, however, was not that of Iwagakure, it was of the Society of Rebirth and Reordering.
Symbol
- Spoiler:
They would all likely recognize the symbol. Over the past few years, the Society had worked to become one of the most feared terrorist organizations in the world. The only thing more fearsome than their power was the lack of clarity in their goals. People knew they were a quasi-religous political movement but beyond a desire to "reorder the shinobi world" there was not much else known about their objectives. It seemed that the unknown inspired more fear and loathing than the known. Rin and his compadres, and now Yui herself, would know that they had summoned help in the form of one of the organization's finest members. Menza wanted them to know. It would prove useful in his coming endeavors.
He stood straight and focused on analyzing the situation in the few moments he had left to him. The only reason Kurama wasn't Bijuu Bombing them was because he couldn't afford to keep his mind off pushing back the walls. It wouldn't last forever though. Kurama would find a way out, that was for certain.
Menza turned around and saw the squad he'd be working with. He glanced at Yui with an expression devoid of emotion. The man's tone of voice was calm but a discerning ear could tell that it suppressed a murderous rage.
"I hoped we would be meeting under different circumstances Yui"
He turned to Rin and looked at the boy with cold and unfeeling eyes. The odd structure of the sockets and pupils gave him a haunting look.
"Whatever you are planning on doing, do it quickly. Aim for his eyes and please don't miss." Menza turned back around and summoned a Fumma Shuriken with the Flying Thunder God Seal emblazoned on its blades. He lowered his center of gravity and held out his hand as he began calculating distance and wind speed. He began to speak without looking at any of them.
"You can't afford to pay for my sealing services Yui
dear. So unless one of you knows how to seal Kurama, I'm afraid you'll have to content yourselves with fleeing this fight and evacuating Konoha."
The way he said "dear" dripped with sarcasm and disdain. He found this girl annoying and more of a bother than she was worth. He hoped she would show him some spectacular chaos with her new abilities. Instead, she had proven to be a whimpering and begging teenage girl.
Troublesome bitch. No matter, he'd have plans for her.
