In what seemed to be a blur in their young eyes Maerys woven the signs to perform a single technique which produces only a single tail of water from a nearby lake. Where Maerys slammed the torrent of water on the whole group knocking them on their rear. Maerys slammed the tail on them over and over until they decided to run away. Seibei however, didn’t get the memo and attempted to grapple the little girl in attempt to use her as a shield. With Maerys being between them, Maerys easily wrapped the tail around Seibei and threw him a couple of meters into the air. Just enough for Maerys to deliver an intense roundhouse kick he could muster on Seibei’s stomach as the kid was descending.
Maerys more or less won that fight, but it came with a price. He was charged for attacking students and the crime was vandalism since some of the property was damaged. Maerys felt like he was not in the wrong, but after his parents shunned him it dawned that he should have never stood up for his sister. When Arisa came to court, instead of telling the truth she bluntly lied that Maerys attacked Seibei and the other kids. Claiming that Arisa tried to calm him down, but Maerys supposedly struck her leaving a bruise on her face. Because of her weakness and his loyalty to family Maerys had to face his crimes. It was petty, but the judge determined that Maerys could not graduate from the academy until he penance. The boy was filled with regret and hatred towards himself along with everything else. His family considered him as an outcast, and most people deemed that he was a horrible child who needs to be jailed or thrown into the Pit.
Eventually, after years of hard work of redeeming himself, Maerys has come to penance and was finally allowed to graduate into a genin. It was only when he was sixteen that he finally graduated, and yet during those years the loyalty he once held for his family is forever tarnished. No longer did he speak of his family nor his last name. No more did he even wish to see Arisa despite the attempts she has made to remedy the past. Maerys will forever be branded as a criminal in the records, yet after working to redeem himself the village finally lifted the restriction. Upon wearing the headband of Kirigakure, Maerys felt like he was freed from his past and that he finally can move forward.

Maerys values loyalty towards family, friends, loved ones, and the village as a whole. It is something that he respects because it is something he can depend on. His loyalty is unwavering for he will remain faithful to his friends and the village no matter what people say. Some say that it is naive and ignorant. Others find a way to persuade him by showing evidence when someone doubts his loyalty. This does not mean that he’ll immediately turn over a new leaf nor betray his loyalty. Instead he’ll investigate it himself and, if the bond is deep enough, will even confront and question the one in doubt.
Because of Maerys’s loyalty many say that he has a strong sense of Pride. For he holds confidence in his abilities as well as taking pride in the village itself. Pride is a good thing for his will isn’t easily broken, but it can be a bad thing because there are moments where Maerys can be an ass. For example when questioned himself Maerys would deny he ever did wrong in his tasks in the public’s eye. Yet there are also times when alone that he’ll reevaluate the criticism and if it is just then Maerys will make a point to correct. Or at least make an attempt to.
Love… that’s a subject that is best left blank because so far Maerys has not even discovered if he’s interested in the idea of love or even relationships. He has no experience in this field, so if anyone tries to flirt with him Maerys would either be incredibly dense on purpose or immediately turn shy and bashful. It could be classified as the cute side of him in a different perspective? But otherwise it is just an awkward encounter in general. If, for whatever reason, he does find love then who knows how he’ll turn out. In the optimal situation he would be the type of partner to encourage the partner to become better than before.
