    Stat Buffing Rules

    Buffing Rules

    Types of Buffs
    There are two main types of buffs you can have:
      Generic Buffs/Boosters:  These generally use chakra and in some way increases the user's stats. These can be of just about any Skill and may be a constant such as "Lightning Release Chakra Armor" or something temporary.
      Unique Buffs/Boosters: These are generally more rare and will sometimes not cost chakra but may have some other cost associated with the user. These are stronger than Generic Boosters.

    Buffs by Rank
    The following are the buffs you get, by rank. This is primarily for Generic Buffs. The buffs stated below can be split between allowed stats (which will be stated later). 3 pluses equals +1 Tier. Each (+) is also called an "Advantage".
      E Rank Buffs: (+)
      D Rank Buffs: (++)
      C Rank Buffs: (+++) or (+1 Tier)
      B Rank Buffs: (++++) or (+1(+) Tier)
      A Rank Buffs: (+++++) or (+1(++) Tier)
      S Rank Buffs: (++++++) or (+2 Tiers)

    Allowed Buffs to Stats
    Depending on the source of the buff will determine what stats can be buffed. All Skills will have 3 tiers of buffs:
      Specialized:  These are the stats that the Skill specializes in. You may go all the way up to S Rank Buffs with these specialized stats.
      Secondary: While not specialized, these stats are allowed. Secondary Buffs MUST specify specifics on why it is buffed and cannot be buffed more than +1 Tier (or (+++)).
          Example: Taijutsu has Constitution as a Secondary. This will not count as a general Constitution buff, but must be narrowed down to something like "only affects physical attacks". Giving the user +1 Tier Con against Physical attacks -- while not gaining this bonus for energy based attacks
      Impossible: As it sounds, you cannot buff these specific stats
    Rule of Thumb: You cannot buff Stamina.
    Spoiler:

    Martial Styles
    This only applies to martial-based skills such as Taijutsu, Kenjutsu, Bukijutsu, and Kyujutsu. Styles will serve as a baseline for techniques and a requirement to be in in order to perform certain techniques. An example would be using Konoha's Strong Fist style -- You will have to be in the Strong Fist style in order to use techniques such as Leaf Whirlwind, Primary Lotus, etc etc.

    Chakra Costs
    Styles do not cost you anything to activate. However, you will have to pay the upkeep per post (including the first post it is used). Upkeep is generally cheaper than activation cost as it's generally 1 rank lower than activation.

    Style Buffs
    Depending on what Skill you are using (stated above in the Allowed Buffs to Stats section), you can give yourself buffs like any other buffs. However, the buffs with Styles will ONLY apply to techniques in that style or when performing techniques involving that style. These can be in tandem with other buffs.

    "Pulling Punches"
    You are capable of "pulling punches" by reducing the power of your Style. This will reduce the stats buffed to the Rank desired. Using Strong Fist, again, as an example, you can reduce it to (++) instead of +1 Tier. Doing so will lower the rank down to D Rank and will cost the same as a D Rank would. You have free reign over how low you want the technique to go (in terms of rank) as long as it doesn't exceed the original rank of the Style.

    Unique Buffs/Boosters
    Unique Buffs/Boosters are quite special as they have different rules. These are generally given through Restricted Techniques and operate on a different principle. Generally Unique Buffs/Boosters are capable of increasing your stats without causing physical strain to the mind nor body the same way as Generic Buffs/Boosters do. These are the exception to the 2 Tier Limit.

    Applying Unique Boosters
    Due to the power Unique Boosters grant, certain limits are placed on them.
  • All Boosts granted to the user through a Restricted are Unique Boosts.
  • A user can benefit from only 1 Unique boost from a Restricted at a time.
  • Nature Clan Unique Boosts cannot stack with Restricted Boosts
  • ➤Unique Boosts are sill limited by the Buff Stack Order.

  • Creating Custom Unique Buffs/Boosters
    Every character is allowed a single custom technique that can count as a Unique Buff/Booster. These are boosters which do not count towards the 2-Tier limit on boosts and are typically considered to be raising your base stats higher (rather than increasing your stats).  The maximum boost on this Custom Unique Buff/Booster is (++) and when gauging the power of your technique, using the stat boosting guide above. Keep in mind that your Unique Buff/Boster must be one rank higher than normal. So to get (++), your boosting technique will need to be at least C Rank with S Rank maxing out at (+++++) or (+1(++) Tier). Keep in mind that adding drawbacks and weaknesses could potentially allow you to have a lower rank while adding abilities would force it to increase in rank.

    Buffing to S and X
      To buff to S Rank, you will need to have a stat at A-Rank (whether modified or natural). Generic Buffs/Boosters require +2 Tiers to increase from A to S Rank. Unique Buff/Boosters require +1 Tier to increase from A to S Rank.

      To buff to X Rank, you will need to have a stat that is Natural S-Rank. Both Generic and Unique Buff/Boosters is required to have +2 Tiers to reach X Rank

    - Entities, while in an Entity form (or obtaining stats from an Entity), may not reach X-Rank stats and will max out at S(++) maximum.
    - uNPCs, Summons, or other ranked mechanic cannot boost from S to X. You may also not boost an weapon, armor, engineering item, chem, or enchantment to X. There are some exceptions such as (Clan, Restricted, Plot Items, etc) that can boost to X.

    Buff Stacking Limit
    Generic Buffs/Boosters that are combined in this way have their stacking limit to 2-Tiers higher than the user's base stat. (If you have D Tier in Strength, you cannot exceed B Tier in Strength via Generic Buffs/Boosters). The only exception to this limit is any boost granted by Unique Abliities -- these cannot boost a stat to S-Tier or higher -- are always applied first -- and are always considered Generic Buffs/Boosts.

    Buff Stacking Order
    There is an official order in which these buffs are stacked, with certain things applying first before others.
    Spoiler:

    Long-Term Buffs
    Certain buffs can last for a long number of posts or even IRL time. These buffs can carry over to the next topic (and beyond depending on the nature of the buff). This can range from buffs from using foods/provisions to the positive effect of the drugs taken. To accurately, and fairly, keep track of these -- the buff must be carried on to their next topic. A player may not pick or choose which topic is affected by the buff, but instead is immediately affected in their next posted topic. Because your character will be affected from an active effect, this topic will also become the top-priority in your timeline.

    Debuffing Rules

    There are two main types of debuffs. Unlike buffs, all (-) are called disadvantages. 3 (-) or (---) is equal to -1 Tier.
    • Base Stat Debuff: These debuffs will target the user's Base Stats. Anything that boosts the stats will still remain.
        • E Rank: N/A
        • D Rank: (-)
        • C Rank: (--)
        • B Rank: (---) or (-1 Tier)
        • A Rank: (----) or (-1(-) Tier)
        • S Rank: (-----) or (-1(--) Tier)

    • Buff/Boost Debuff: Unlike Base Stat Debuffs, this will only touch buffs to stats. In the event of an overflow, these will not touch the base stats.
        • E Rank: (-)
        • D Rank: (--)
        • C Rank: (---) or (-1 Tier)
        • B Rank: (----) or (-1(-) Tier)
        • A Rank: (-----) or (-1(--) Tier)
        • S Rank: (------) or (-2 Tiers)
    Debuff Stacking Limit
    Debuffs have a -2 Tier cap. You cannot debuff any stat beyond -2 Tiers regardless of the debuff type.

    Debuffs beyond E-Tier Stat
    Stats can go below an E Tier stat. The stats are as follows:
      • (+)
      • (++)
      • E
      • E(+)
      • E(++)
      • D
      • etc.

    If any stats fall beneath E-Tier and is debuff beyond (+) is called "hitting zero). So if someone has E-Tier Strength and they are hit with a -1 Tier debuff to Strength, they have reached 0 Strength. In the event this happens, the target will be rendered completely physically paralyzed -- unable to do anything -- borderlining unconscious. The only exception to this rule is if the Constitution Stat 'hits zero' the user will immediately die.

    What can be Debuffed?
    Any and all stats can receive a debuff if the technique explains why and has a convincing reason why it debuffs that stat. Unlike buffing, debuffs don't suffer from the same restrictions.

    Stamina Debuffs
    Stamina may receive debuffs as usual by reducing tiers. This will reduce your currently available and overall Chakra Points by the difference of those tiers (check Stat Rules for more details). When the debuff to your Stamina is removed, your overall point total will return to normal.
    Example
    Let's say you have B-Tier Stamina (185 CP), then you take a -1 Tier debuff to your Stamina, dropping you to C-Tier Stamina (110 CP) = A difference of 75 CP. Let's say our current available CP before you got the debuff was 165 CP because you used an A Rank technique. So with this debuff, you will lose 75 (due to the difference from B-Tier and C-Tier). You will also lose 75 from your current CP dropping you from 165-75 = 90 CP. Once the debuff is over, you will regain this CP back.
    If you ever reach below 30 CP, even via Stamina Debuff, you will reach Exhaustion. If you ever reach 0 CP, even via Stamina Debuff, you will be considered unconscious until you regain this CP.

    Long-Term Debuffs
    Certain detriments can last for a long number of posts or even IRL time. These detriments can carry over to the next topic (and beyond depending on the nature of the detriment). This can range from detriments from using Drugs to using Eight Gates techniques. To accurately, and fairly, keep track of these -- the debuff must be carried on to their next topic. A player may not pick or choose which topic is affected by the debuff, but instead is immediately affected in their next posted topic. Because your character will be suffering from an active effect, this topic will also become the top-priority in your timeline.
