Well-Learned - Keno is talented in the field of medical techniques, this is true, but they are also possessed of a rather wide array of knowledge outside of medicine and insects. They begin with an additional 500 EXP to spend at start, though as a result they are indebted causing 50% of all EXP gains to be dedicated to paying off this debt.

Appearance: Keno strikes an image that is typical of many Aburame despite all of their shinobi training. They are slight and small in stature. Their skin is pale and almost completely unblemished, though someone from outside of the clan may wonder how they manage this with insects living within their body. While pale, they aren’t pallid, their cheeks dusted with a healthy flush almost constantly, only growing with their emotions.

They black hair that falls in curls around their head, though they usually keep them pulled into two side-buns at either side of their head to keep it out of their eyes. They also dye their hair, strands of blue and red laced into the black. Their eyes are almond shaped with lush lashes, a startling yellow color though they are often concealed behind the shades that appear standard-issue for their clan.

Keno’s facial features can be described as androgynous, with lips that upturn slightly at the corners in a permanent half smile and a delicate nose. Their bone structure paints their profile in gentle sweeps and curves, with full cheeks and a soft jawline. Unlike other Aburame who’s features aren’t all that emotive, Keno’s seems to project their mental state like a neon sign, even with their eyes concealed.

Keno is light, and moves as though weightless and floating through the air. When they step, they more often than not make no noise. They favor more casual clothing over ninja-appropriate attire even when on missions, though when required to wear it their mission garb consists of dark clothing that fits tight to their frame and a white overcoat.

Personality: Keno has been a bookworm since they were a child, and carries that trait even now. They come across as quiet by nature, very much the studious type with a book on one medical topic or insect breed not far from their hand. However, they are actually rather talkative whenever they encounter someone they feel may be able to understand their thought processes. That being said, they can be more than a tad bit awkward, due to being more in tune with words on a page or their insects than they are with the complexities of human interaction.

Keno has a certain pride in their clan and upbringing, which makes a strange combination with their interests as when they begin talking about all of the innovations the Aburame have made in entomology, it can come across as gloating rather than sharing an interesting topic. While proud, they are not prideful, however they tend to make overly blunt statements that can make them come across as condescending, though this is far from the truth.

Keno sees others as they are without giving compliments or encouragement where none is due, and they compare them to what their potential could be over whatever they might be showing in that moment. And for those who fall short of expectations, they do not spare them any disparaging comments. This goes both ways, however, as Keno freely gives praise and commendations where they are deserved. They have a great capacity for caring, as evidenced by their desire to become a medic, making them an excellent choice as they take the wellbeing of others personally.

Keno is prone to entering a mental state which they have dubbed “science mode”, ineloquent as the name may be. It is usually prompted by Keno needing to treat a patient, or during intense study on any given research project. Within it, they are hyper-focused on the job at hand and care even less about the intricacies of interpersonal relationships. When addressed, they speak in almost exclusively long, drawn out medical or scientific terms, theories and explanations.

They also enter this mindset in battle or on missions, though it has a different effect. They instead focus on protecting their allies, whomever is in the most danger or the most essential to their cause in that moment, or if they aren’t present quickly dispatching the threat so that they can return to them. Whatever the mission, they always carry it out with great efficiency, behaving almost like a machine rather than a living breathing person.

History: Keno’s birth and upbringing wasn’t anything extraordinary, even for the standards of someone raised among shinobi. Their parents before them were both shinobi, their mother a medical ninja and their father a chunin instructor born of the Aburame clan. They were raised to value all life, from the smallest insect to the largest beast, and they decided that they wanted to be the best of both their parents: helping the world while studying all the interesting bits about insects.

As they entered the academy and began their training, their desire to help others was refined into the goal of becoming a medical ninja. They threw themselves into their studies of Iryojutsu wholly, despite it not being a part of the core curriculum the academy pushed. They still studied the basics of other ninja arts like Ninjutsu, which was necessary to use their insects effectively, Taijutsu and even Genjutsu though that was more so that they knew how to fight against it.

Their medical studies lead to them realizing that this special was useful in understanding their insects. They could apply their medical knowledge to them, learning the intricacies of how their bugs interacted with each other and their environment, studying how their various bodily systems functioned as well as coming to understand the benefits of crossbreeding. This made way for experiments with their insects, breeding them with other mundane specimens from the world, feeding them to other insects or vice versa.

All of their experimentation with their insects led to something unprecedented once they graduated the academy: they created an entirely new breed of insects unique to them. Usually an Aburame was capable of breeding subspecies of that which the clan cultivated, but cases where something wholly new came about were rare, and they were never discovered by someone as young as Keno.

Now, regarded as a prodigy among Aburame, Keno looks to see how far they can go with their discovery of the new and their evolution of the Aburame techniques.
