Ashitaka had only stuck around to make sure that he successfully received the scroll containing the weapon he'd ordered from Okane, but he was hardly stupid enough to remain near the gates nor any of the buildings he'd destroyed. Rather, he was on the opposite side of the town from it, intent on leaving immediately after the messenger hawk deposited its burden. Then he sent it back to Konoha with a letter to his Clan to send the payment for the weapon to the Grand Merchant and headed out of town, suppressing his chakra as he moved as quickly and stealthily as he could manage. Which were fairly respectable, given his moccasins hiding his tracks and his natural affinity for finding his way around a forest. Given his track record fighting Kumo nin, he wasn't about to fight one if they showed up quickly enough to respond.
