Unique Abilities:
One Handed Seals: Can weave seals with one hand. Loses a tier of Coordination when doing so.
Appearance: Marcus is a young man who appears to be a fair bit older than he actually is, with most people placing him in his mid twenties. This is thanks to his face constantly resting on the serious side, most notably his stern eyes colored like emeralds. He is scarred across his body from numerous fights with his father as well as bandits on his migration to Kumogakure from the hostile deserts of Sunagakure. Marcus' face has a somewhat weak jawline, though the lack of fat on him aids in defining it to make it appear sharper than it actually is. Despite his youth, small worry lines have begun to make a permanent home on his face. This gives him a rugged charm to compliment an otherwise handsome face.
He stands at 6'2" and typically holds a rigid posture, preferring the feeling of good posture over comfort. He has a spindly build, his arms and legs being longer than his height would have as normal. The muscles on his body are well defined, though he is not shredded or anything of the sort. One can tell that he takes care of himself without being a gym rat or someone who focuses all of their time and effort on training. His extended reach is an aid in combat, as he can better stay out of reach of other shinobi that engage in close combat while not being out of range himself. Marcus likes his hair to be short and neatly styled in various ways depending on his mood.
His choice of clothing varies depending on whether he's on duty or off. He prefers loose fitting trousers and shinobi sandals when on duty with either a mesh shirt or no shirt to help stay cool. If required he will wear different clothing though he will not particularly like it. When off duty he almost never has a shirt on, sometimes even when it's winter, though he can bend a little and wears a light shirt in the harshest weather. Mostly to keep the wind off of his skin. Shorts and going barefoot are his preferred casual attire but he can find a pair of trousers and something to throw on his feet if going somewhere in public with a friend to make it more appropriate. He prefers to wear an armband with the Kumogakure symbol on it rather than a headband, but owns a headband should the urge to wear it arise.
History: Marcus hasn't had a particularly interesting life by shinobi standards. He was born on the border of the Land of Wind to his father, a middle ranking man in the Fujio clan, and a foreign mother. His name was not originally Marcus, but Kamijo, though he would come to dislike that name. Most of his looks come from his mother which he appreciates, considering his father wasn't exactly a looker. The only child these two would conceive would be Marcus, as his mother left his father when Marcus was only five years old due to how his father acted.
To put it bluntly, Marcus had a drunkard for a father that already wasn't a kind man the few times he was sober. The man had good instincts for combat even while drunk, but old injuries had driven the man into the bottle more and more as he grew older and more pained. Unfortunately, he took this out on Marcus's mother first and then Marcus himself once she left. Marcus was beaten and assaulted by his father quite often as a child, even with weapons at times when his father was feeling particularly creative. Marcus dealt with this until he was ten years old, at which point he lucked out.
The luck was in finding someone within the clan to teach him how to fend for himself. This man was not nice or anything of the sort, but he did not abuse Marcus as his father did. This man's name was Marcus and is the person he now names himself after. Basic taijutsu skills, a discovery of his talents with katon and fuuton, and the learned skill of sensory. All of these things were given to him by the intense training Marcus drilled into him. The abuse by his father would continue during all of this, but he had learned to be patient and waited.
One day when Marcus was fifteen, his namesake disappeared on a mission for Sunagakure. Marcus had been thinking about going with him to the village to head to the academy and become a shinobi himself when the man departed. That same day, Marcus's father got especially hammered and came after Marcus in a drunken stupor. It was only due to the intoxication that Marcus was able to finally defend himself from the wrath of his father, managing to reinjure the knee that had been essentially destroyed decades beforehand in one mission or another. That was the opportunity he had been looking for and so he fled with the Land of Lightning in mind. He had heard rumors that was where his mother had fled all those years ago and he wished to try and find her and reconnect.
He managed to find his way to his new home by the time he was sixteen and has spent the last few years working odd jobs to survive while looking for his mother. He still hasn't given up on that quest, but wanted a way to earn better money and so he decided to put his skills to use and enrolled in Kumogakure's shinobi academy. He was the oldest student of his class, but he also already knew most of the curriculum due to his previous training. Because of that, he managed to graduate after only a year at the academy and is ready to finally begin his career as a shinobi.
Personality: Marcus is usually relaxed and generally carefree about most things in life ever since escaping his father's abuses. Before the recent years he suffered from frequent bouts of depression and was stoic most of the time. The depression has mostly gone, and he is only his stoic self of old when shit hits the fan. Despite having the lax attitude he has now, Marcus is a man who firmly believes that justice is something necessary for the world to function and acts according to that ideal. He will joke and play, but will not stand to see blatantly horrible things done to people. Even if it requires bringing harm to himself, he will step in to help. Whether the help is wanted or not, he will step in regardless. Most don't know whether that trait is admirable or detestable, as he helps people who truly need the help as well as those who might have been better off without it.
As stated before, Marcus is willing to let himself get hurt if it means he can sleep at night knowing he did what he believes is right. Thankfully, years of abuse at the hands of his father has toughened his body up the the higher levels of regular human ability and this trait is one he wants to focus on more as his career blossoms. Marcus tries to enjoy life as much as he can, some of his favorite hobbies including walking around the village, socializing with people, trying new food, etc. He wants to enjoy even the little things and thinks everyone else should be able to do the same. He is not likely to do any truly bad things unless it's the only option he sees available to him, but heinous crimes like outright murder in cold blood and robbing banks are not things he would consider. Killing is a must in his line of work and he knows that, but he wants only to kill those who would endanger his home or the world at large if he can help it. In general, he tries to be an upstanding person in society regardless of the personal cost to himself.
He can still fall into bouts of depression every once in a while and becomes a bit nihilistic when these bouts come over him. Life takes on a more crude coloring to him and the worst aspects of people are what he tends to see when in this state of mind. Marcus becomes more dismissive of things he otherwise would have noticed or taken interest in, events that he dwells upon later and beats himself up on for not stepping up at the time when he normally would have had he not been wallowing in self doubt and pity. These bouts are rare, but the change in his personality is definitely noticeable.
