Ashitaka took several moments just to take in all that he had just bought and had assembled in his otherwise unassuming and inconsequential-looking home. He was sure that at this point, he had finally crossed a threshold in terms of what he'd be capable of producing. Then he rolled up his sleeves, and put on his work-protection gear, and got started. These weapons weren't about to forge themselves. The heat of the smelting furnace and the crucible took a lot to get used to, but luckily he could take the latter outside and work with it there.
The steel and titanium were largely uncooperative in terms of alloying together, but with some trial and error, he got the mix ratio to something the two seemed to agree with, and a new metal was born. It combined the light weight, tensile strength, and corrosion resistance of titanium with the impact durability of steel. It was so tough, that he actually had trouble "working" it into the small, functional blades that he wanted for his weapon. Once he succeeded, though, he saved the alloy recipe and procedure in one of his many notes and set to work carving the Senju Wood to suit the unique design of his weapon. The most difficult part would be arranging everything just slightly off of what conventional wisdom would demand so the whole assembly could fit together like a puzzle.
