    It had been some time.

Between her first hours with the blade, a boat ride, a few students she picked up, and a lunch with her son, she had changed. But watching her cat take in new blood, from a yet to rot corpse was something she would still think about. It wasn't uncommon to think about such things. So many shinobi had taken in organs and other DNA from others in order to greatly strengthen themselves. It wasn't something she could agree with. If you had someone elses heart beating inside of you, your victory was also theirs. It was strengthening, if that heart was given to save your life, someone you owed it to. It was weakening if it was something you took, because you yourself was weak.

Did that mean the cat was weak?

She stood, her weapon lifted to rest the blunt end against her neck as the flat side lay on her shoulder. She was different now, they both were. A tan dress shirt with bits of stained blood was all that kept her warm, save for the black wrap that covered her chest. Her stomach bare, exposing her muscles that were all but lost after having a kid. For a mother, she was in great shape, for a Kaguya, some could say she was lacking. Her pants were blue shorts, the end of them wrapped and tape down with black bandages, all the way down to cover her feet. Her sleeves rolled, as always, with her hands wrapped in the same bandages. Her right wearing a sort of brace to support her wrist.

She waited. She waited not far from the entrance to the sewers. A busted gate that had long gone without repair. She waited for the cat.

    She was weak.

Nothing had exposed her to this more than the constant humiliation she had received since integrating into the world of shinobi. Everything had served to kick her down, each event another boot pressing down against her face. Even the slightest victory she had was marred by the same tastes of defeat. Having to rely on the help of others, trusting herself to their whims and desires. To compromise, cowing herself down and bowing her head to human society, to philosophy, to culture, would have been something she would have been disgusted in herself. To be domesticated to this extent was like death. To be broken down and then have parts of yourself that were considered inconvenient cast aside, and then all put back together with those pieces missing as if nothing was wrong.

The surgery somehow made her feel even weaker, despite it being a success. It gave her energy, swelling and bursting inside of her, but that did nothing to help her mental fatigue. She was tired. The pain of her broken ribs and likely infection was gone, but she couldn’t help but feel unnaturally weak following it. Perhaps it was just her damaged pride melting down to inflict phantom somatic damage. It was difficult to tell. Maybe it was something else?

Her hair was clean, for the first time since she had come to this country. Silvery-white locks, freshly bathed following her surgery, were almost glistening compared to how ratty they had looked in the past. She was clean. The outfit she wore was a far cry from the elegant, yet beat up dress she had previously had been seen in. She wore a pair of black boots, raising up to just under her knees, while the rests of her legs remained bare. A pair of shorts, perhaps a bit too short, would be around her hips, but the similarly black hoodie she wore traveled down a bit past her waist, giving the illusion that she wore no pants. Her tail stuck out behind her, through a hole punctured in the shorts to let them out, snaking below the draping hoodie to reach air. Much more casual than before.

Hands buried into the pockets of her hoodie, Ikomiki would approach the gate, the entrance to where she would be presumably be spending the next few hours. The woman was there as well. The same as before, who she had met first on the boat. Green eyes turned to regard her, idle and thoughtless.

She eyed the feline, reduced to a soulless husk. She was so strong when she lay alone on that table, all of the inner workings, the tubes, the blood. All of it lay inside of her, wrapped up like a present. She had walked away, healed, a miracle, yet she stood as if it was her spirit that was taken from her, surgically removed.

She lifted the sword off her back, resting the end onto the ground as she looked over at her newest pet. After the hospital, she appeared more sickly, almost frail.

"What's wrong with you?" she asked plainly, no real need to dance around niceties. She wanted the answer, and she wanted it now.

It was a strange way to greet someone, but the question didn’t phase her. Her eyes followed the sword as it was raised, being pulled off her back and then rested down cleanly onto the ground. Only when it stopped moving and came to a complete stop would the girl’s eyes travel back up to the woman. There wasn’t much to say. She felt naked now, in front of the woman who had surely seen deep inside of her body. But there was nothing else to hide now, and maybe there was a small security that could be taken in that. When everything was exposed and there was nothing left that she had to hide that meant there was no more reason to squirm around. Under the brightness of the light she could relax, or at least allow things to happen without resistance. Struggling now would just be wasted effort.

“Nothing.” The answer came slowly, and Ikomiki would return to Akeruseirei with the same stare as before. The question would be thrown back at the woman, pressed away from Ikomiki. “What’s wrong with you?”

Cold words spilled from her, only for a cat to repeat it back. Maybe it was just how the kitten learned. Repeating words and phrases to collect as her own. Words spat back out as she slowly collected pieces of the language. But that wasn't true. She was just as human as she was. She had seen the insides, the inner workings. But even so, her own anatomy was askew. They weren't close enough to be a human anymore. They were now a off branch sort of species. Strange things worked in strange ways.

"What isn't wrong with me." she would answer back. It was an answer that gave no real information, yet all of it at once. "If you aren't well, go back home and rest, I'll take care of this myself." She would make a step towards their task, only before stopping to speak again. "Here I thought a cat would be excited to catch some rats."

“I am excited.” She said, with no real excitement in her voice. “This is going to be my dinner, so I can’t afford to go back home and rest. Otherwise I'll go hungry.” It was hard to tell exactly if she meant that she would eat the literal rats as dinner or if the pay from the mission would be her dinner. Ikomiki of course meant both, but it wasn’t exactly obvious just from just the inflection and tone of her voice.

“I’ve rested enough, either way. I need to do something to wake up, since there's no reason to bother with worrying about the Chunin Exams any longer.” The words would be punctuated with Ikomiki’s approach towards the gate, following in the footsteps of the taller woman. This could hardly be called work in the first place. Just some idle hunting. Chasing and killing pests that couldn’t fight back. It was fun. Food that you could play with appealed to her, especially the sort that still kicked about, only to go still and silent as you caught it in your jaws. Sometimes she wondered what it would be like to be fifty feet tall instead of her current height and do the same to people instead of just rats.

Empty words that held no sustenance. They had no value among the others and would serve as useful as small talk. How could anyone walk into a mission, however simple without the confidence that their teammate wouldn't make it difficult. She wasn't someone to screw up the mission, but to lazily go about was just as dangerous. Even ants are a threat when millions go unchecked.

She nodded, only to be reminded of her son, as well as her students. She should observe them, watch them. But she had other things to do. But maybe it was something worth taking the time out to do. "I take it you're going to eat them then." She would ask, though not that curious. "I suppose you prefer to kill yourself? If so, then I'll be sure to catch them live for your amusement."

“Yes. I’d prefer it if you caught them live.” They were just rats. Pests to be hoarded into corners and played with until they died. Hopefully. If it turned around that simple rats could get the better of her and prove a problem it would likely just come for the point for her to leave out into the forests and allow herself to die. Then again, she was weak and hungry. Her mental acuity was questionable as well. She lacked the same kind of focus that she did before, although perhaps this was a good thing considering where that mentally got her.

“I’m not sure why they would bother sending us down to take care of a rat infestation. This seems like a job for civilians. Or a few cats.” Her ears would perk as she followed the woman into the sewers, staring into her back. Unless they had some sort of terrible disease to them Ikomiki couldn’t see there really being any need for those of their caliber of firepower. Even if she had failed the Chunin Exams she was still of a fairly strong power level. Surely beyond what was needed to take care of rats. The same surely could be said about this demon lady, whatever her rank was. She had a big sword, which surely must have meant she was strong.

“So why are you here?”She couldn’t help but ask. “Taking this mission in the sewers. I’m here to eat. I don’t think you’re doing the same, unless you’re more like a demon than I thought.”

A fresh kill, something she understood and would do her best. Just enough to slow them down, but not stop their hearts. She nodded, closing her eyes as she inhaled, lifting the sword to return it to its resting place on her back. She would have to do her best to leave them alive for the cat to pick up, everything else would be up to her. She didn't plan to let her most recent patient overexert herself, even if things had gone perfectly. It would have been a good idea to get a cage, but if the sewers was their target, she was sure they could find a sort of net.

They walked inside, the two of them looking around for their smaller, plaguebitten targets. Or, she hoped they weren't at least. Then they would have an entirely different problem. "Blood is blood." she would say, "I take up any task that helps my people, or ends lives. Doesn't matter whose, be it people or animals." She would smile, looking back and offering a glance at the girl.

    What was their plan anyways?

“Blood is blood.” Ikomiki would repeat. She found herself liking the phrase after hearing Akeruseirei say it. “It’s all the same. From a rat or human. I understand.” It was something that suited her nature. The clear value in what Akeruseirei said was appreciated, and it was delightfully inhuman logic as it was interpreted by Ikomiki. There weren’t many humans with that sort of attitude, thinking of both groups in the same light. But they all did have the same blood. It was all the same. Maybe, that this woman wasn’t human should have been something Ikomiki took comfort in.

It smelled down here. The stench was gradual, something that built up over time instead of surprising you. It was musty at first, similar to the smell of an unclean toilet, but as they progressed deeper additional tones of garbage and rotting plant matter were added in until the smell because an unintelligible mess of many different tons of bad, with the constituent elements unrecognizably mixed together into just pure filth. Filth would be spread everywhere as well. Unidentifiable rot, slimes and molds of various colors. Perhaps it was what you might expect from a sewer, but to a girl without knowledge of human society it felt more like walking down into hell.

“How many are there?” Her nose was crinkled, obviously disgusted. Just being in proximity of this felt uncomfortable, and she was beginning to have second thoughts when it came to eating anything that lived down here.

Repeated words from her own pet, it was amusing enough to get her to smile. She nodded, shaking away the thought. It was really like having a parrot. She would just repeat phrases and things. So, what else had she heard and what else would she share? Rei reached up, clasping one of the larger buckles on her harness. She looked into the sewers. Only to try and gauge things.

Rei was far from human in her own eyes. Tens upon hundreds upon thousands of bodies. She had peeked inside of organs and carcasses. She played with the insides, only that when she had peered into her own, it was much different. On the outside, she was just as any of they were. But on the inside, she knew how different it was. She knew she didn't belong. Or at least, the Kaguya. She was inhuman, only to take a form that was similar enough. A shape that allowed them to easily assimilate among others, and mutations that allowed them to breed with them as well.

Rei was used to the smell. Years spent taking refuge in both trash and garbage alike. It was fitting then, but almost a shame to mention now. To her, it was just a matter of surviving. She looked back at the girl, a visible sign of disappointment. Almost like an of course you have a problem with the smell. She reached to her left sleeve, her right hand growing quick claws to rip the fabric, reaching back to pass it to the girl, "Just wear it over your mouth. Though, I hope you don't mind the faint aroma of fish and honey." Her breakfast.

She reached back, turning around to hold the same buckle. "Well?"

"I dunno. Maybe about a dozen. They're all kinds of sizes."

She patted it. She was never one to use real buckles. Of course, they were all clams.

She could deal with fish. Honey was a foregin word to her, but she could deal with fish. The cloth was taken, and it would be wrapped around the lower half of her face like some sort of math. Easy enough to breathe through but enough to keep the stench away. It was fastened tightly behind her head, under her hair which would be raised to allow it to be draped over the knot. The scent was as mostly as she expected, although perhaps a bit fainter. There was something foreign in it too. The same as the foreign word, she surmised. It was hard to put a finger on exactly what it was, other than it smelled of sweetness. It wasn’t unpleasant, but it did make her a bit hungry now. She wasn’t used to sweet. Other than the occasional fruit in the springtime it was entirely meat and fish that made up her diet.

Then a third voice came out from the darkness. Ikomiki raised her tail, stopping half in her step for a moment. It was a stutter that she recovered from seeing that Akeruseirei didn’t falter or jump to attention. The voice was so close though, it nearly put hairs on the back of her neck up in surprise. It would only take a moment to identify its location. Her belt. There was a buckle on it that she had been tapping, but rather than a buckle it was actually a clamshell. Or we, a full clam.

Ikomiki would reach over, poking at the belt buckle clam. Her attention would be on it fully, and she would paw at it a few times, stopping her train of thought entirely.

Cats were all cats. Felines all had the same natural bit of nature. To have her own pet paw at the clam, only rose a brow when she had finally realized what she had begun to do.

Smiling, she pulled him off, silent objections as he begun to shake not opening himself up to the other girl, in both meanings of the word. She extended her hand to give him to the girl, ready to drop it in her palm. "Don't eat him." she would say, "If you're nice, he'll talk to you."

She would hand him off, silent and unhappy as a clam could be in the hands of a cat. She would turn around only to point her hand, preforming a seal with her left and shooting off a flare to light the way in front of them. It would be shot, the charge lighting the way ahead as it bounced off a few things before landing on the side bank. Without going the distance needed, it would not explode, but remain for a while as they would look around. Only a few scurried footsteps could be heard. Rei smiling as she watched them move.

"Three." she would say. "You ready for dinner?"

The trembling clam would be placed into her paws. Her posture changed immediately, with her attention focused entirely down on the small little shellfish. She would hold it close to her face, in open palms, while her eyes peered down at it. The tiny little slit that was between the two tightly clenched shells would be stared into. She couldn’t see anything at all, not even the slightest bit of darkness on the inside. It was a shame, but she remained intensely curious. She had never seen a creature like this, let alone one that could apparently talk. More than anything Ikomiki wanted to hear it speak more, but at the same time it didn’t seem very willing at the moment. She would be good at least and made no act to consume him or try to pry him open, which would hopefully let him open up in time.

The flare would be set off, and Ikomiki would follow it with her eyes as it flew down the sewers. It would bounce after hitting a solid surface, boinging a few times before finally coming to a halt. Immediately she would hear the scurrying footsteps, echoing out in the newly illuminated area in front of them.

The clam would be held tight now, and she tensed up for a moment only to explode outwards like a coiled spring. She ran forward like a cat would, zipping through the sewers until she reached the point of the flare. A short struggle would follow, but it wouldn’t be long until Ikomiki had won over. The rats had scattered as she approached, but she had a creative trick up her sleeve - That being the shadow clone technique.

The rats would be put up until a small pile, with one resting dead in Ikomiki’s mouth. She would be gnawing at it, satisfied with her work.

It seemed as if things were meant to be wrapped up quickly. As she darted forward, Rei would be quick behind. She watched, the clone appearing, and the clam held tightly. Maybe she was different than she had pictured before, but even so, Rei was prepared to wrap things up quickly. Each hand brought together, forming the seals whole as they were intended only for a surge of chakra to build up in her hands. She stood in the midst of the sewage, looking down the other passageways. She could hear the scurried steps as they ran away, mentally counting them. She looked at Iko, only careful to not strike her and her own clam. The clone however, was none of her concern. She knew the one that held the clam, was the real one.

Electricity would shoot from her hands as she directed down each path. Shooting and striking all of the small rodents. Enough to slow their heart, but lowered enough to leave them alive, suffering. She wasn't going to steal the glory of the kill, not from the cat. Blood was blood. It didn't matter how they died, only that they did.

"Hurry up then." she would say to the feline. "Collect them, and lets go. You should be home, resting." A small moment outside rather that being cooped up in a box at home. Maybe she should extend a bit of aid to her pet for her stay in the village. It wasn't like her husband could really object to the matter anyways.

"Oh boy..." The clam mumbled to himself.

Weaknesses: Requires the user to be unencumbered with both hands, given that's where the chakra is focused and then released. They also have to remain stationary.

Cat Got Ya Tongue? [Mission: Rat Race] Empty Re: Cat Got Ya Tongue? [Mission: Rat Race]

Resting. In the moment of this excitement she almost forgot what had happened. The slightly charred rodent would drop from her mouth, thudding to the ground as she let it go. Although already dead it would still be twitching. A curious side effect of electricity. They did taste filthy, as expected, but food was food. It was the memories that came back to her, from behind the momentary veil of distraction that brought her away from what was supposed to be her meal. Walking down here and being with this strange woman let her forget about it all for a while, as they were drawn deeper into the mission. The idea of a meal and the charm of Rei and the talking clam made her forget about the fact that she was supposed to be resting. She was supposed to be resting because of the surgery. She got the surgery because of the deal with Akihiro. She made the deal with Akihiro because she wanted power. She wanted power because she was weak and afraid.

She stared down at the rat on the ground. Then others she had slaughtered, having all been thrown messily into a pile, would be looked at for a moment. They were fresh, still crisp and covered in their own blood. Although with how small their bodies were there wasn’t really all too much blood in the first place. She would turn around, back to Akeruseirei.

“I’ve lost my appetite.” She would say, turning back to Rei. The clam would still be held in her hand, although her grip had loosened.

That was that? No, what was the whole build up for? All of the excitement? What was the point of coming out to even do the job if it was over just like that? Surely there was a reason. Was it what she said, or maybe how she said it? No, there had to be something more. Walking away after a single catch and some lightning. Was it the lightning?

A sigh escaped her lips, only for a dozen clones to appear, each of them off to the side, watching the feline, only to make their way to pick up some of the rats. The dead ones to prove their success, and live ones for, well . . .

"They taste like shit, don't they?" She smiled, her hands folded in the small of her back as she threw glances and glares at her clones. Each of them taking a few in their arms. It would seem only a hand's worth of them were still living, beyond being paralyzed. "I'll clean them up then." She would, say, turning around to make her way back to the entrance from where they came. Their job was done for today.

"Let's go home." She would give a wave, as if telling her to follow, but a signal to the clones.

"Oh thank god. I thought it would take an hour!" The clam opened up, speaking, its tongue hanging out for a moment until it could feel the felines prying eyes. Then it would retreat inside, only to remain a bit opened, but frozen still. If she peeked inside, she would just find his tongue nervously flicking about.

    102/110 Chakra

    Name: Water Clone Technique
    Rank: C
    Cost: -
    Range: 25 m.
    Speed: -
    Element: Water
    Skill: Ninjutsu
    Classification: N/A
    Requirement: N/A
    Parent Technique: N/A
    Handseals: Tiger
Description: By using water as a medium, the user can create one or more clones of themselves. While the clones can perform techniques, they only possess one-tenth of the user's chakra and cannot go too far from the original. The clones can also be used as medium to perform other Water Release techniques, as demonstrated by Kisame when he reverted their arms into water to perform the Water Prison Technique. When these clones are struck with a sufficient amount of force they will revert to their water form. The clones can be created anywhere within a 25 m. range of the user, unlike the Shadow Clone technique which requires clones to be created next to the user (such ranged spawning would require the clone to be spawned from a pre-existing source of water)
Drawbacks: When casting this technique the user's stamina must be above 30% in order to maintain control over his/her clones. In addition, the user must maintain general concentration to maintain their clone's presence. If at any time the user is inflicted with heavy damage in contrast with their Constitution all clones will be dispersed. The user must be within 25 m. of their clone.

Time to go home. Wherever that home was. She had spent the majority of her time in Kirigakure just sleeping in the streets. It was how she survived in Konohagakure as well, but the unfamiliar territory here made it less pleasant. Foreign ground. Like sleeping in a different bed. It was difficult to keep herself pristine amidst the garbage, but her normally insufficient attempts at doing so had become irrelevant during her stay at the hospital. The strange people there washed her, and kept her and her clothing clean. It was strange. Humane. She felt like a pet, in a weird way, even though they were doing the same to other humans as well. It was just odd, increasingly so with each day that passed by.

They would probably have food there as well. They had before, insisting on feeding her for her strength. Something like that. There was a soft bed too. Then, maybe someone like Akihiro or Kureji would visit her. That would be nice. She was already getting used to this sort of lifestyle, even though she hated it.

The clam would be brought back up to the woman, returned to its owner, and in a sense Ikomiki would be returning to her owner as well.

    “Let’s go home.”

The clam returned in hand and placed back onto the woman's harness, something fit for an animal to be controlled. Perhaps, in trained eyes, they would find it fitting. As if the correct one of them was placed within control. But Rei would remain wild and unchecked, as she always was, even when she pretended to be a domesticated house wife. Times were changing. And she was ready for a hunt.

The clones would make their way past her, at her side and caressed what still lived in her hands. The others were careful on carrying the deceased, as if not to alarm others.

"When you're ready, you can find me at the Hozuki district." she spoke, looking over the now stunned rodents, her hand reaching out to lightly brush their dirtied fur. "I'll clean them up for you, or, I'll keep them as pets if you don't. Either way. A Days work is a days work." And she would turn.

    And she would leave.
