The smell of graveyard soil clung to the air about him as the misty night wore on. The moon was unseeable this night, the shadow of the planet hiding it from the light of the sun it so desperately needed to be visible to miniscule beings down below. Calin could barely see, it was an infuriating conundrum since he couldn’t really help the issue due to the dense mist that lightly brushed it’s cool embrace against his body as he moved. Luckily the headstones were organized in nice and orderly rows, and it was a simple matter to find his way around with them as guides. Not a sound could be heard besides the crunching of the grass beneath his feet. He wasn’t particularly worried, it was in the village. The cemetery within the Kaguya clan to be more specific. He had decided to come visit his father’s grave tonight. He tended to come here during this time, as it guaranteed privacy. Allowed him to speak his mind about matters to the man who was no longer there to guide him through the trials and tribulations that life might bring before him. Get things off of his chest so to speak.
He finally reached the headstone he was looking for. Although his chosen entry point this night brought him to the stone feature from behind. As he had just come from training and so was entering the clan compound from the outside. Contemplating momentarily he decided to sit his back against the backside of the headstone, leaning against it as he contemplated his words before speaking. “The girls found out the genders today I expect they’re waiting up to tell me all about it in excitement.” He said softly, a small smile on his face as he thought of Tsubaki and Alkaid, his wives. One was secret of course, Alkaid to be more precise. Tsubaki was the clan head, so hers had to be the public one. But they all loved each other, and wouldn’t abandon one another. A couple of months back they had discovered the two women were pregnant, much to the joy of everyone. They had waited in anxious excitement for the day they could discover the genders and begin decorating rooms.
A soft crunch was heard in the mist
“Who’s there?” Calin asked, an eyebrow raised in mild confusion. Had Tsubaki or Alkaid gotten impatient? He couldn’t think of anyone else who might be out here. It would be right the hell up Alkaid’s alley to get impatient and then come out to tell him herself. However the lack of reply denoted something else. Something a bit more sinister, considering no Kaguya Clan member worth their salt would’ve stayed silent at the question. An intruder then? He moved off of his old man’s headstone and began to move around it. His line of sight cleared the edge of the monument when a sight that roused his anger came before him. Where once a corpse had been buried, now a hole remained. Piles of dirt scattered the immediate vicinity, showing that his father’s body had in fact been dug up. Righteous fury tore through him before he suddenly heard a quick flurry of steps on the crisp grass. Sliding a bone blade out of his hand he spun around to block a strike.
Only to come face to face with the half rotted form of his father.
Shock, disgust, and fury struck him at once as he saw the form of his father. A high quality sword was in the corpses hands, at least on par with the bones that he employed in his battles. ‘The corpse was dug up, and armed. Someone’s controlling it, but with this damn mist I can’t see who, or where.’ He thought as he fought down the powerful desire to retch at the stench of rotting flesh, coagulated blood, and corpse soil assaulted his nose. Someone has desecrated the grave of his father. Whoever had done that would not be leaving this graveyard alive. The corpse of his father swung the blade again Calin, angry, and resentful of whatever being has decided to treat his father’s remains this way, parried the blade and cut into the ghoulish figure. Only the back pedal swiftly as he suddenly came to the realization that a corpse could not die. ‘I need to find the controller.’ He thought as he put some distance from his father.
No sooner had he done that did a voice pierce through the misty veil around them. “Oh don’t worry brother, I’ll get you another live one to enjoy in a moment. This one’s a little feistier than the others. The voice said as Calin’s mind raced at the words ‘Another live one? What the hell are they ‘enjoying’?’ He thought as he heard a slurp and a crunch from around the same general direction as the voice. Turning and dashing toward as quickly as he could he ran through the mist toward the noise. His intent was clear, he would kill the monstrous individuals that had invaded his home. His form was perfect, the feeling of the cool mist on his skin wasn’t even present within his mind as he dashed through it. Dark silhouettes became visible as he ran, one hunched over something, another standing up, hand outstretched. Calin finally broke through, and now saw his opponents.
Then proceeded to fall to his knees in horror at the scene before.
Bile rose up in his throat as he saw the hunched over individual gnawing on a severed arm, working to such the very marrow out of the bones as the blood spilled down his front. Next to him, stood his ‘brother’ a manic grin on his face as he saw Calin’s appearance. “Look brother, you’re next meal has arrived.” He would cackle as Calin continued to stay where he was, eyes transfixed on the scene before him. Not at the two men however, but at the two bodies before them. Laying on the ground, eyes wide yet utterly blank, showing no signs of life were the bodies of Alkaid and Tsubaki. Both of the two women he loved more than anything. Their torso’s were cut open and gutted, the bloody, hollow core open wide for the world to see. Absolutely no inner workings remained. All of it, lungs, heart, everything, all ingested by the man whose snapping teeth continued to gnaw on the arm that he had severed from Tsubaki. A discarded bone sword lay to the side, spikes of bone jutting out of the woman’s body that clearly showcased the use of The Dance of The Willow.
Alkaid was no better, her limp spinal column laying near her cold hand, but no spikes whatsoever out of her body. She’d wanted the speed, was probably trying to move to protect Tsubaki. Both were dead, and Calin felt himself throw up savagely as the crunching of feet on grass could be heard from behind. The standing man’s fingers working to control his puppet. The crossed out Sunagakure headband barely visible in the moonless night. The corpse of his father raised the blade high once more, and brought it down with startling speed.
Calin suddenly awoke in a cold sweat.
He was alone on the large bed he shared with his wives, sunlight streaming through the nearby window. That’s right, he had taken a nap while the ladies had gone out to find out the genders. They had specifically told him to stay home. Despite his desire to be with them, they wanted to find out together and tell him together, themselves. They were extremely excited about it all, Calin was too of course. However, not quite to the degree the soon to be mother’s were. His own excitement had started to get the better of him, anxiousness and impatience wearing down his resolve. So he finally laid down for a few minutes to help the time pass. A soft clicking sound was heard, as the doorway opened and the two women walked in. Smiles on both their faces as they moved to each side of the bed and crawled in next to him. His own impatience was showing now he was sure of it. But he held it in check as they snuggled against him, Alkaid took the charge, her general impulsiveness showing in the glint in her eyes. “Twin girls.” She would say, to Calin’s shock. T-twins?..He was already worried about how to handle two newborns. Now however, there were going to be three? Tsubaki came next, her own voice confident, yet content “Triplet’s, all girls.” Now Calin’s heart froze. Five children, all girls, what in the hell was he going to do? What were they going to do? Oh god, what about when they all hit puberty? His eyes rolled into the back of his head and he suddenly passed out.
Thank fuck he woke up from that one too.
