Ryuko was laying in her bed still half asleep. Currently she was wearing nothing but a simple white nightgown and her hair was disheveled from sleeping the last seven or so hours. She was awake now, well sort of anyway but she couldn’t quite work up the will to get up out of bed and start dressing herself, but at the same time she’d slept long enough that she couldn’t get back to sleep either even if she wanted too.
With a heavy sigh she covered her eyes with the back of her hand. It was unusual for her to be so lackadaisical but lately she’d been in a bit of a rut. After her traitor of a sensai had vanished the squad she was supposed to be apart of had fallen to pieces and without them it was hard to work up the will to continue getting up in the morning.
It wasn’t hard to see why a rift had formed. Natsuru had been injured during the last mission and had been recovering and Shimiko’s brother had died leaving her a wreck emotionally to the point she’d been hospitalized.
Ryuko blamed herself, she should have been their more for them but instead had been so side tracked with her medical training and crafting that she’d barely seen either of them and only found out that something had happened to Shimiko weeks after the fact when she’d gone looking for someone to go on missions with her. She had some nerve on her to be calling herself their friend in this situation. Some friend she was.
Allowing herself to continue to wallow in despair like this wasn’t going to accomplish anything. At the very least she should go see Shimiko in the hospital. After all she was a fully trained medical ninja now. Maybe not the best in the village but if there was anything she could do to help her friend get back on her feet then she ought to be doing that instead.
Suddenly she felt a lump by her right leg that hadn’t been their before. Startled her eyes shot open and she lifted the covered to find a strange red colored egg with pink stripes had appeared out of seemingly nowhere.
Her mind raced as she tried to think of possible explanations from where it had come from. A genjutsu? No why would anyone bother making her think she was seeing an egg. Her eyes widened in shock and horror as an other possibility came to mind…. Could she have laid it in her sleep?
But wait hadn’t they told her at the convent that children where born when two people who loved each other a lot held hands and really wished for it to happen? She didn’t think humans laid eggs, at least normally but then again she was a vestal. Technically speaking that meant she was married to her god Hakkin while she was in his service. Could this be possibly be a blessing from him?
“Oh great platinum dragon swimming in the sea of stars, please grant thee thy servant a measure of your wisdom.” she intoned a prayer reverently hoping for a vision to give her guidance. Suddenly she had a flash of inspiration. There where more of these eggs, and her god wanted her to find them.
But as soon as the flash started, it also ended giving her little idea of where to begin looking. Perhaps if she communed with her god on a deeper level he could point her in the right direction. There was several ways to get in touch with her spiritual side as it where. She could preform an elaborate ceremony but that would take lots of time, and she had a feeling she didn’t have much before the eggs would vanish.
Another method involved intimacy but since Ryuko was lacking a partner in that department so that wasn’t an option since she was about just grab someone off the street to get kissy face with. So instead she’d have to settle on a simpler option, alcohol consummation. Booze was one of the best mediums on earth for a medium to get in touch with their spiritual side short of some very race hallucinogenic herbs.
