Traveling from place to place ever since visiting Menzagakure was boring, so while Lily was in the little boat she was making her temporaty home in she figured she had plenty of time to do some small iron crafting again. Using her tenacity, she began her work. Pulling out a small mallet and other tools that by all accounts she should not have had she'd set up her little temporary workshop.

Closing her eyes, she'd think back to her time in Vandel and all the various kinds of weapons that people could use during the big battles. Knives were an obvious one, but she had a sizable amount of those already. No, she needed to have variety. The first that came to mind was that of the long knife, or as most people called them 'shortswords'. Those would be a good place to start. After that, she could work on the more exotic types of weapons. Next that came to mind was that of the hand axe. She personally found knives to be better, but having a tool she could hack with would be a nice addition to her weapon collection. The same went for the mallet for crushing her enemies, or just bashing their heads in. Even if knives were the superior weapon, since fighting the Shabnak and the spooky tower she had to concede that not everything could be killed with her current toolset. Finally there was that of the Javelin. She personally found the stick knife to be silly, but having a better range option that didn't need her to toss her knives would be nice. besides, she enjoyed poking people with things, so having a knife with a realllly long handle was perfect for a girl like her.

With her initial toolset in mind, she'd begin bending the metal to make the beginning of her backup tool kit.

    Crafting:
1 set of Iron Shortswords (1 day; 5xp)
1 set of Iron Hand Axes (1 day; 5xp)
1 set of Iron Mallets (1 day; 5xp)
1 set of Iron Javelins (1 day; 5xp)

Setting her tools to the side, Lily looked over the various tools that she had made. Swords, Axes, Mallets, & Javelins, all lovely to behold for the small one. Picking up one of the swords, she'd give it a couple of test swings before trying out the others. Each felt nice and balanced for her body type given she wasn't the type of person who'd normally be swinging them.

Looking at what else she had on the list, something seemed missing. Ah, yes more knives. Even if she didn't have the tools to make the best of the best, she could still make her second best for the moment. Pulling out a lot more iron, she begin working on hammering out the imperfections. It was rather difficult for her to do this kind of work in a boat to be fair, but she was used to doing this sort of thing in the training grounds, on in her home, or basically anywhere. She had a skill that very few could replicate.

Having gotten the molds ready, she'd get up and take a quick walk around, making sure she got her stretches in for the day. Up down, up down, up down; each motion was important for her to take and she couldn't skip out on it; not yet. Not Ever. She had to be able to take down the Shabnak eventually, and making sure she was in fit shape was step one of being able to do such a feat. Stretches done, she'd work on her fingers. Crack crack crack, each joint would pop and Lily would feel a small bit of pleasure from it. Flexing them, she'd take one of her knives out and would make a few warmup cuts before putting it away. She was ready to start crafting her stabbers.

1 set of Iron Shortswords (COMPLETE; 5xp)
1 set of Iron Hand Axes (COMPLETE; 5xp)
1 set of Iron Mallets (COMPLETE; 5xp)
1 set of Iron Javelins (COMPLETE; 5xp
1 set of Much Bester Iron Knives (7 days; 85xp)

Zoning out for a lot of the crafting as Lily knew how to make knives in her sleep, she'd turn her thoughts inward for about five seconds before needing to do something in her off hand. Setting down her iron for the moment, she'd step out and wave down one of the beat-people for some chalk and a chalkboard. It took a bit, but eventually she'd be given one. Bowing in thanks, unaware that the generosity was due to her childish appearance, she'd sit back down and went back to working the metal in one hand while she began practicing writing warmups in her other, less dominant hand; summoning a penguin to begin her learning lesson for the day.

If one were to get technical, Lily was left-hand dominant but trained with her right hand (and right foot, and left foot...and mouth) for so long that she was effectively ambidextrous. As such she had little issue doing the basic writing warmups that she had been taught by those in the pit and Kit-Kit, but it was hard. Ever since she had gained the penguins as teachers, they had been trying to teach her how to understand Fuinjutsu, but her brain wasn't built for it. Instead they taught her other things, such as how to properly use them in battle, how to swim (that one was one of the hardest), and how to act like a proper human being. Lily didn't find much pleasure in that last one, but Kit-Kit wanted her to be more mature. Kit-Kit was worth it.

Lily would feel a twinge of pain as she thought about Kit-Kit. She had little idea if the princess knew she was alive or dead, and to some extent Lily was okay with letting Kit-Ki...no, Kitsuki. She was okay with Princess Kitsuki thinking she was dead for the moment. In a way Lily had died. While she was asleep, something had changed in her. Her brain had changed, Lily could feel it. her thinking was...different. Yeah, different. Less first, more third.

Lily wasn't sure if she liked that fact.

As Lily continued to roughly shape the metal in one hand while working on improving her spelling in the other, she would mull on her thoughts and how they had changed. In a way, her speech and thoughts had swapped, her words become more stilted and foreign compared to her inner voice which was more refined. In a way...she liked it, but she also didn't like it? It was hard to think about. That was one thing that hadn't changed at least, trying to think deep was hard. Some things changed, others stayed the same.

Returning her mind back to reality, Lily would look at her writing before handing it to the penguin. They took a good, long look at her work before nodding and handing it back, Lily erasing what she wrote as she moved on to the next line. The penguins really were kind, teaching her things like geography, basic history, maths, language arts, and of course ninja magic. She had actually picked up a trick or two from them finally, grasping how the ninja magic worked to a degree. She wasn't good at it by any means, but her years in the pit had honed her in such a way that when she had learned some of the basics her teachers said she might be able to pick up quicker on how to use it then most ninja; at least starting off. Something about her body harboring darkness or something made them worried that her growth may be stunted later on.

Whatever it was that spooked them, Lily wasn't worried. While she was learning how to use ninja magic to improve her fighting skills, it wasn't her bread and butter. She could hold her own with body alone for the majority of people; but ninja magic may help her beat up the Shabnak, so it wasn't a bad option. Setting the chalkboard down she'd unsummon the penguin for a bit as she'd focus on working her craft again, feeling her muscles strain as she shaped the lovely piece of iron into a basic shape.

Break time. Setting down her tools again she'd get up from the knives (so far she was making good progress, but it was tiring trying to bend metal.) and began a small workout session. She didn't have anything fancy planned, but she knew that she needed to stay in shape.

Moving to a more open space, she'd begin her stretches, starting with some simple arm stretches before moving on to toe touching stretches. She'd even sprinkle in a few of those 'yoga' poses she had seen from the more meditative pitmates during her time in Vandel on top of stretching poses that she had learned weren't exactly...appropriate, but she was alone so it wasn't like Kit-Kit or anyone else could stop her.

Her stretches done Lily would move on to some of the basic excersizes she had been taught, starting with pushups. Lily was pretty good at pushups, she could do a thousand or so if she wanted to, but given she wasn't trying to push herself she went with a simple fifty. After that came curl-ups, of which she'd also do fifty. Looking around she'd catch sight of the doorway and moved over to it. She'd jump up and grab the trip and did a few pull-ups, but only a few before stopping as it wasn't built for her. Instead she'd do some squats, feeling the burn in her legs after some time.

Feeling a bit parched, she'd realize she had forgotten to get any water, so she'd step out and get some of the purified stuff to quench her thirst. At least she didn't need much water, that was one of the pros of having a small body after all. Workout completed she'd take the cup back into her little work area and set it to the side, giving her knives a look over and realizing she had goofed up a little. A small setback, but that was why these were the good knives; good knives required a lot of work.

Looking at her unfinished knives, she'd pull out one of her completed knives and compare it to where they were now. She had finished the initial shaping of the new knives, but they still had a long way to go. Things like sharpening, adding small grooves, making those silly little handles so that her tiny hands wouldn't get hurt. It was a lot to do, and with the limited resources she had she wasn't sure how much she could do.

That was one of the things she missed being out here by herself: not having the nice things being in the village had. She was able to take care of herself quite well even before the village, but she did miss that bed. And she missed the sink. She missed a lot actually. Perhaps she should visit Vandel before heading back to Kit-Kit. Even if they weren't the best people, they were her people in a way. Hopefully the barman was still alive.

Lily stared at her knives, lost in thought. This wasn't like her, that changeling had to have done something to her. Or that mean castle. It had to be that...right? Getting up again, she'd go to the mirror and down to the bathroom the ship had since it had a mirror. looking into it, she's stare at herself for several minutes. Who was she anymore? First was the thoughts, but the more she looked at herself a dawning realization struck: had she changed appearance at all? She barely bothered to put any work in making herself look nice, usually a rinse and some soap was more then enough for her, but she wasn't sure she had gained any height at all, which didn't seem right.

How old was she again? She was...twelve. No, sixteen. Nineteen? If she was nineteen, she would have been taller, but she wasn't. Why? The changeling looked older, so why didn't she look like that changeling? Something wasn't right and Lily knew it, but she wasn't sure how to address it.

Staring at the mirror for several more minutes, Lily would blankly wonder about what she was. She was Lily, wasn't she? Yeah, she was Lily; Lily killed the fake, making her the real Lily. That was how things worked, if they didn't then what would she be instead? Already her mind was struggling with these thoughts, but she had to push forward. Lily was her, a small girl with white hair and green eyes, a lot of battle tattoos from people she beat over the years. Lily was from Vandel. Lily's caretaker is Kit-Kit. Lily likes weapons, with knives being her favorite.

All of that make Lily, but was that all? There had to be more. Knowing that if she kept standing in front of the mirror she would shatter it, she'd step out of the room and onto the deck of the ship, looking out at the water. She'd think more about who she was. Lily Liked apple juice, those funny shinobi food packs, and enjoyed that 'gum' she had been given once. That was still basic stuff though, why was it so hard to think about what she liked. Clutching her head and closing her eyes, she'd think harder. Why did she feel the need to think about this? This wasn't like Lily, Lily liked to fight, to kill, to win. She liked the thrill of being on the knifes edge until she could taste her own blood and come out on top. She hated wearing these clothes but kept them on because...

    because...
    because...

Kit-Kit wasn't here to stop her, yet she still wore these clothes. Did...had Lily grown comfortable with wearing clothes? She didn't know what to do with that information. Perhaps...perhaps the idea of Lily had changed. Lily had changed once when Kit-Kit took her in, but at the time she hadn't seen it. Perhaps that was why the changeling was able to be killed, Lily had killed Lily, leaving only Lily. Satisfied with her thoughts for the moment, she'd step back inside and continued her knife crafting.

Post by Lily Thu Apr 25, 2024 8:41 pm

Lily pause midway through her work on her knives, mind drifting again. She was Lily, full name Liliane Anastasia Sisyphus, but why was she so wrapped up in such worries as to who she was now? No, no she couldn't think about that right now, Lily needed to focus on her knives. Shaking her head, she'd get back to work. Work, why did people work?

Lily would toss the knife against the wall. "Why? Why brain why?!" She couldn't get the thoughts out of her head. Lily was Lily, why couldn't her brain just accept that fact? Screaming, Lily would take the other knives and toss them at the wall. Being unrefined hunks of metal they'd only stick due to Lily's strength and years of knife practice, but they did stick. Lily knew she'd have to pay for repairs later, but she didn't care. Her brain was being silly and she needed to fix that somehow. The problem was that she didn't know how to do such a thing.

Lily got up and went to the mirror again. Looked at herself, pulled her cheeks out, bared her teeth. It was her in the mirror, but it didn't feel right. Why did it not feel right? Lily hated this, she wanted to go back to when things were simpler, when she didn't think about these ideas and could do whatever she wanted to do. Curling up in the corner Lily would make herself small. She didn't like being aware.

Lily would stay in the corner for a bit, the thoughts overwhelming her for a while before remembering that she had left her knives cooling on the wall, which could catch fire and she didn't want to lose some quality knives. As such she'd get up from her seat, pull herself together and walk back to her little makeshift workshop, pulling out the knives and setting them back to their proper homes as she got to work.

Lily continued to craft away, but the thoughts did not go away. Thoughts of what it meant to be so focused on knives, why she cared so much about such matters and what she was going to do about it were...she needed someone to talk to. Taking one of the knives she'd spill some blood and summon a penguin, not any specific one but just one that she could talk to. At least, she would have talked to it were any words to come out of her mouth, but nothing did so she would unsummon it.

Lily would proceed to do this five more times before her summons stopped answering, sending a clear message to her that she needed to be more mindful of her actions. Lily interpreted it as simple 'its her problem to figure out, which wasn't far off but still inaccurate. Lily still didn't understand why she was having such a problem with this idea of who she was, yet it kept lingering, so back to the mirror she would go and ruffle up her hair. It was still her. She would pull up her cloak and try to act mysterious. It was still her. This feeling on not understanding would continue to plague her as she went back to the knives.

After some more time she had finally finished her knives, but there was little joy to it this time. It was nice having such fine weapons in her hands, but it didn't have the same oof as the previous ones. Perhaps it was because she was thinking a lot, or maybe she had matured. Whatever it was, her gut was telling her that it was going to linger.

    Annoying emotions.

Spinning the knives in her hands, she'd tuck them away and 'turn off' the makeshift crafting station she had made for making knives. These babies needed to get tested, and the best way was to spar with some of the crew.

Stepping outside, Lily would twirl her knives in her hands as she looked for someone to spar with. "You! Sailor boy! Pick up a sword and fight me. Lily needs to test out her new weapons." She'd take one of the swords from earlier and toss it to the unsuspecting challenger. Confused, they'd look at lily like she was insane. "Yer' joking, right miss? I could easil-"

Lily would toss a dagger in-between his legs, showing her strength and accuracy. "Pick it up." Realizing Lily was serious, the lad would indeed pick up the sword and take a fighting pose. Watching his muscles, Lily could tell he wasn't a fighter like she was, but that was okay; she just needed to test the blades; not overwhelm her opponent. "Good. Come at Lily, and do not hold back." The man would rush forward, his form in her eyes sloppy, but it would do. As he struck down with the sword, Lily would move one of the daggers in the way and block the attack. He'd attack several more times and she'd casually block them, the man growing impressed and a little frustrated that this 'child' was casually parrying him with little effort. Trying to catch her off guard he'd then attempt to kick her, of which she'd catch out of the corner of her eye and che'd bring another knife out to block with the blunt edge. "Good, you're taking this seriously. Keep it up."

The two would go at it for several more minutes before the man got tired and took a step back. "That's enough from me lass, you satisfied?" Lily would ponder this question for a few seconds before shaking her head. "Hmmm, no, but you did well. Here's some coin for helping." Giving the man some of her money, she'd take the sword back and sheathe it. What to do now...

Moving to the back of the ship, Lily would sit on the back railing, the poop deck or whatever it was called, looking at the land nearby, Her knives and other weapons were good, probably the best she could make given the circumstances. But there was still the issue of herself. The more she thought about it, the more she had tried to reframe it. Perhaps Lily was still Lily in the was her knives were still iron. She was in the process of being made into something better. That didn't mean she was something completely different, just the same different.

It was a silly idea, but it put her mind at peace a bit. Not fully, there were still plenty of issues she could feel lingering on the tip of her tongue, the back of her mind, but it would do for now. Lily was Lily, no matter what would happen. She was Lily, Child of Vandal; Blade of Kirigakure; and now something else that she had yet to even discover. She had only just begun to understand the intricacies of ninja magic, and in due time she planned on studying the cool ways people had fought with weapons in the pits. For her it was onward and upward, nothing would stop her. And if something tried, she'd simply make a path through it, around it, or hell, even over it. That shab-nak would fall, she was going to make sure of it.

Standing up, Lily would raise her arms to the sky with a smile on her face. "Witness me Sun! I will become the strongest, bestest Lily I can be! Not Kit-Kit, Not Shab-Nak, not even those silly sailors or pit fighters will stop me now!" She'd let out a laugh; a real laugh. It had been a while since she had laughed. Smiled and snorted, sure, but it had been what, months? years? Honestly it didn't matter; it felt great to laugh, and she fully intended to ride this wave as long as her heart could keep on pumping out this joy she felt.
