Loam on the Range

Mission:

As the sun rose Nakaba's run would take him to the wall's edge. Behind him he'd be dragging a large cart filled with bags of beans. Quick to work he'd grab a plow and begin dragging a plow meant for a creature twice his size through old barren farmland. He'd create row after row after row as the sun slowly crept up into the sky. pausing at noon, he'd take a break, eat a sandwich, and drink a liter or so of water. He'd get right back to work tending to acres and acres of land, some of the famers men would work alongside of him with oxen for brief stints before getting back to work in other places. It wasn't until far in the afternoon though that Nakaba's ruthless endurance got him through the acres of untended land.

The woman who owned this plot of land was a cash crop farmer, but her returns were continually diminishing as the incredible amount of money she had to put into reintroducing nutrients severely ate into her purse. After a few days of negotiating Nakaba had convinced her to plant some beans since she had harvested her tobacco. The beans would serve a few purposes. They reintroduced nutrients back into the soil, encouraged wildlife in the area, could be sold for profit, and increased the villages food stores. Handful by handful Nakaba laid the beans into the earth with water and care. As the Sun slowly began to set he could feel the fruits of his labor paying off as he got to the last few rows, and felt the telltale signs of soreness setting in indicating that he'd done a good day's work. Saying farewell to a few straggler farmers leasing some of the owner's land Nakaba would head home for the day, hopeful that the beans would flourish.
