Labor in the Laboratory

Anzo Aburame had been taking a few small samples of various medicinal compounds over the course of several months, and now has enough such compounds to construct a poison of his own, as well as an antidote. He carefully selects a medicine that is normally meant to cure some forms of chakra sickness, though the drug is rarely used when such a disease is rare, and it often expires and begins to break down a mere few months after its creation; however, the chemical compound it breaks down into is still capable of targeting the chakra pathways of an individual, but instead of the usual compound merely cleansing those rarely-understood pathways through the body, the decaying chemical compound eats away the chakra itself.

This is not common knowledge for most, but Anzo had been watching the way whole bottles of the medicine was being discarded, and simply absconded with one that was meant to be thrown out anyway. Now he simply allowed the medicine to decay, and form its vapor within the bottle which he carefully collects and allows to propagate into the top of the bottle, with the regular medicinal compound still in liquid form at the bottom.

Anzo even had a name for this new gaseous poison: Litargia, named for its capabilities of eating away at someone's chakra reserves rapidly. He didn't think he'd use it much, but it would be important to also create a fast-acting antidote for his own tool, and so he also begins work on that.

With his poison developed, it's only fair to make an antidote, but he needs to be careful since the poison itself is gaseous and therefore difficult to contain. Luckily, he's able to use a simple lab tool to siphon off the gaseous particles of his poison into a vial, though it won't be helpful for storing the poison in the long term. He siphons off a few grams of the gaseous compound before he begins a few tests to see its reaction to certain compounds. Water lacks any form of reaction to the gas other than to suspend the gas in the liquid, though he knows that the two would likely eventually separate.

Still, this gives him something to work with, and using an application of medical chakra to the water, the chemical compound undergoes a serious change, transforming it from a poison to a more helpful antidote that can cancel out the effects of that particular poison.

With his work complete, he takes the rest of the expired medicine as well as several stoppered test tubes of his newly made medicine gingerly out of the lab, though he still moves quickly to the market to purchase some very necessary instruments for storage.

Anzo returns to the hospital, this time carrying several vials in order to contain the new poison he's planning on creating. He's actually brought along a somewhat dangerous venomous creature with him, a small insect from the Senju forest, though not one he could do much more than communicate with; it was far too hostile for him to ever be able to control, even as an Aburame. What he could do with it, however, is synthesize its venom in a lab, so long as he can get a clan sample of the little creature's venom. He treats it gingerly once in the lab, covering a beaker with a thin film of plastic wrapping and then adding an antibiotic to the top of the wrapping to ensure that there's as little contaminant as possible. Once the set-up is complete he lightly presses the insect's mouth to the plastic film, coaxing it into stabbing into the plastic and releasing its dangerous venom into the glass beaker.

Anzo carefully places the insect back into the box he'd brought it in with, leaving it a few dead Kikaichu to feast on as a reward for its giving up some of its own venom. There's very little in the beaker, but even a little is useful for synthesizing it into a poison; thankfully, with his medical knowledge, a biological substance is far better to help him understand how it interacts with the body. After a bit of work carefully separating some of the other biological material from the venom, he finally arrives at the actual venom agent, what interacts with the body to cause those rarely fatal but often terrifying episodes caused by a single bite.

It takes a little work, but Anzo finally manages to synthesize the exact peptides into a much larger amount, allowing him to create the new poison; Hebetudo. He carefully fills all nine vials with his strange new poison, ensuring that they're efficiently locked away in their new vials before washing away all of the remaining work, ensuring that it can't be recreated by others. He also makes sure to take the insect back out to the Senju Forest to release it far away from the village.
