Personality: Despite a typically cold and serious demeanor, Yasuka has a soft spot for cute things. Yasuka often appears somewhat emotionally detached from others and tends to keep her distance, especially from strangers. She also has a fear of snakes. She's modest about her appearance, and she becomes embarrassed easily and is likely to scold others for making comments about her appearance. Yasuka is quite dedicated to what she considers are her duties, first and foremost to Kumogakure and her clan.
With her reserved and often quiet nature, she doesn't often make friends, with the teasing she endured at the Academy making her even less likely to be friendly towards others. Despite this, she doesn't hold much of a grudge against the other Academy students she went to class with, although she does tend to avoid them as though they're strangers.
Yasuka is quite intellectual and is known to enjoy reading more than interacting with others, and will mostly tolerate human interaction as long as she can see it as a learning experience or for training. She's very much and intellectual introvert, stoic and respectful, with particular politeness to people in authority. She'd learned a little bit of politicking from her parents, and is capable of feigning friendliness with those that are more likely to take offense to her usually distant behavior.

Yasuka was born to a fairly wealthy and conservative part of the Inazuma clan, although this particular family was part of an echelon of the clan that actively looked down upon clan members that chose to become ninja, despite the fact that the Inazuma clan also includes members that have made it to the esteemed position of Raikage. Yasuka's parents often thought less of those who had to perform manual labor in order to earn a living, in general. Therefore, for much of Yasuka's early childhood, she didn't interact often with the ninja or the naval members of the Inazuma clan, although she still received a lot of schooling on the history of the clan and its most notable historical members. At the age of 8, during a visit her family made to Kumogakure on a business venture, Yasuka had wandered off and inadvertently fallen off one of the docks into the water, where she was saved by a sailor that had seen her fall off. Although Yasuka complained about her ears hurting, her parents didn't think much of it. Yasuka's pain grew worse until her eardrums ruptured due to an ear infection from the sea water, and she didn't get any medical care until it was too late; by her 9th birthday, Yasuka's eardrums were considered a lost cause.
The next time she visited Kumogakure with her parents to visit the clan, Yasuka formally requested to be trained by the ninja members of the Inazuma clan after they discovered that she had some capability to use elemental ninjutsu, particularly the Storm Release. Her mother was quite surprised to learn of her potential, but her father secretly confessed to his daughter one night that his side of the family used to be ninja, but had become rich merchants a few generations ago. With her father's blessing (and her mother's protestations) it was agreed that she would be trained in the use of some of the Inazuma clan ninjutsu for the purpose of making her a ninja, although she would receive none of the financial aid or the inheritance from her parents.

Yasuka mostly had a hard time during her years at the Academy, not just because she no longer had any parents, but also because her previous lifestyle mostly made her physically weaker than her peers. Her ability to use ninjutsu was enough to help her to pass, and although she had few friendships, she was happy enough to get through the Academy on her intellect and natural ability alone. The Inazuma clan as a whole helped to train her in the use of Raiton, Suiton, and Ranton elemental use.
