An extract from the diary of Rafaela
The day I met god was a quiet one at first. One like any other where I woke up at the crack of dawn and went about my chores. That was the only life a simple village girl like me knew, the only life I should have known if not for what came next. Without warning for no reason that have ever been able to discern a horde of bandits on horseback descended upon the village shattering the quiet countryside with the thundering sound of dozens of horseshoes clattering against the hard hills followed by the screams of the dying that haunt me to this day.
A few of the braver men in the village tried to stand up for us, picking up their hoes and running to meet the marauding hord and were quickly cut down by the Bandit’s swords. After that the Village quickly descended into chaos as arrows flied and houses burned. For the rest of us it became every man, woman and child for themselves. Before long I was separated from my parents whom I would never see again.
Desperation took me as I began to run, my speed fueled by a mysterious power welling up inside me. This wasn’t the first time I had displayed unusual strength in my short life up till this moment. The village chief had often told me that I seemed to be more blessed than most but I’d never understood what he meant before that day as the others who fled with me failed to keep up with me and were soon captured. I myself would have made it to the treeline and to safety if not for the vile Jashinist who cut me off.
“Did you think you were the only one with Mana?” he said with a devilish laugh. “When I lead these louts to attack the village I hoped to bag a couple sacrifices for my lord Jashin but it would be a shame to waste someone as pretty as you so quickly.” said the man as he reached out a hand to grab my shoulder. “Why don’t I start by teaching you all about Pain...and pleasure!” he exclaimed with a dark look in his eyes as he licked his lips. I knew then if he got a hold of me that I would suffer a terrible fate.
I had never really believed in the gods before. I had heard tales of a Platinum dragon lurking around the religion growing up but had dismissed them as a fairytail to comfort crying children. Even so in my fear I prayed for a god, any god to save me. I wasn’t expecting an answer but was given one anyhow as a clap of thunder disrupted the Jashinist attention for a split second allowing me to slip by.
What happened next was astonishing. Words like Gigantic and enormous did not do our Lord justice as his majestic and divine form descended upon the burning village. With but one flap of his wings both the flames were extinguished and many of the thieves were knocked to the ground.
“Have you lot descended so far in your villenry that you would prey upon a defenseless village?” asked the dragon, his voice weary of all the evils of the world. “Let this be your final warning. Give up your life of crime and sin and begone from this place to start anew.” In his infinite wisdom our Lord decided to show those scum mercy rather then smite them on the spot.
“Don’t listen to that overgrown lizard. This village is a sacrifice to my lord Jashin!” proclaimed their leader. Hearing that Hakkin sighed and with a flick of his tail the Jashinist was gone before he even knew what hit him, his body reduced to a fine red mist on the spot from the overwhelming application of force. The remaining bandits witnessed their leader's death and quickly fled from the scene of the crime like rats scurrying before a great lion.
“You there girl, I’ve been looking for someone like you to spread my word. Will you sit and listen to what I have to say?” asked Lord Hakkin to which I quickly agreed. It was at that moment that I became his first followers, and his first Vestal. He had many lessons for which to teach me, the first of which was that Justice without Power was empty and that Power without Justice was only tyranny.
Though he is a god Hakkin couldn’t be around us forever and protect us from everything. He will come to our aid when we need it the most but we villagers needed to learn to stand on our own two feet.

Personality:
Calm, wise and generous are the three words best used to describe Rafaela She's usually a very kind and gentle girl who almost always treats others with kindness and respect. She is also very caring and she always interested in her what her fellow worshippers are up to. While she is usually slow to anger when her boiling point is finally reached she becomes a force to be reckoned with.
However, when around Jashinst her personality takes a drastic change. She becomes incredibly cruel and violent towards any Jashinst she encounters. Before sharing a body with Ryuko she would attack and attempt to kill them without thought or mercy, not even taking into account whether or not the Jashinst in question is good or evil.
It is only because of Ryuko's influence that Rafaela has come to begrudgingly respect certain Jashist such as Shimiko and the twins Yui and Yua as not being all bad, even so while she's willing to tolerate their existence for the moment she's still far from accepting the religion as a whole.
Relationship with current host:
Rafaela never had any children. Being Fellow Vestals that worship the same God she and Rykuo have a lot in common and because of that she see's Ryuko as a essentially surrogate equivalent to a granddaughter.
The two of them generally get along extremely well but don't always agree with everything such as the topic of how Jashinst should be treated in the Kingdom of Thunder. At first Rafaela wanted to exterminate the lot of them in a religious crusade or failing that at least banish them from her lands and had to be talked down by her more open minded counterpart.
Rafaela is often a wellspring of guidance and advice for the young Queen however because the first Vestal is is incredibly pragmatic about the things that must be done to run a civilized society she's ironically not always the better angel when it comes to dealing with the complexities of the modern era.
Triva:
As the First Vestal Rafaela founded the Church of Hakkin and wrote the first book that became their bible
Rafaela was so in love with Hakkin that she never took a human partner during her lifetime. After her death her successors misinterpreted her intentions and decided that all Vestals must remain Virgins from then on much to the chagrin of many who followed in her footsteps
She loves watching birds, particularly the Blue Jay and Cardinal and would often sneak peanuts out of the church pantry and put them for them in her garden so that she could listen to them sing while she read scriptures. Part of the reason Hakkin granted her angelic wings upon her death was so that she could sore the sky with her beloved feathered friends.[/b]
