History: Kim Chang-Min was born in a lesser branch of the Hayami Clan. The family was so far removed from the general clan that they had more or less dropped their surname over the years. While they fulfilled their obligations, Kim's parents were mere accountants and they raised their son as such. Kim grew up crunching numbers and engaging in quantitative analysis when he realized how much more fun it was applying math than it was scribbling it out in a notebook. Kim's interest in the practicality of math extended into an early interest in chemistry which continues to this day. Kim's skill at combat encouraged the Hayami Clan to put pressure on his parents to let him join the academy. Sunagakure needed a fresh crop of competent genin and they weren't about to let a potentially gifted shinobi waste his life away as a petty accountant. Kim was sent to the Suna Academy where he passed with flying colors. Now a newly minted genin, Kim is eager to make a name for himself as Suna's number one genin.
Unfortunately, such a thing could not, would not, and did not happen. Not long after he joined the academy, the village plunged into chaos and Kim and his family were forced to leave. The boy's father fell ill with the plague and he became man of the house. Kim supported himself and his mother by taking over his father's accounting business. While he never truly gave up the art of being a shinobi, Kim simply didn't have time to dedicate himself to the military. He moved quite often, "following the market" and slowly accumulating enough wealth to build a stable life for himself, his mother, and his cousins. Kim predicted that a war would soon come to the continent and got ahead of it by moving to Kumogakure. He accurately predicted that unlike the Minor Nations and some of the Major Nations, Kumo would weather the storm fairly well under Queen Ryuko's leadership. He was also aware that some Hayami were settling in Kumo and that distantly related though he may be, it was better to live among family than strangers.
Kim intended on primarily serving the village as a financial analyst and accountant but ultimately he was drafted in the army. He had told his family that it wasn't by choice but the truth was that the civilian life was boring him. He craved excitement, adventure, and meaning. He decided that the best place to find it was in the greatest military on Earth during one of the most impact times in history.
Personality: Kim is somewhat arrogant despite his age and inexperience with military affairs but he does a good job concealing this beneath a a demeanor of quiet politeness. Kim's nonchalant attitude is a product of having exhausted his passions and desires during his time as a high living financial engineer. However, it wouldn't be accurate to say he wants the traditional family life, Kim has found he bores easily with the mundane. Unfortunately, the mundane for him has become partying and staying out late. He seeks a change of pace and though his expression may not show it, he is willing to go to great lengths to find excitement. He still has a vested interest in proving his Nindo correct even after all these years since he started in Suna's academy. This goal has made him quite disciplined despite his familiarity with the wild side of life.
Kim has a strong conscience. He values family, duty, honor, and has an innate respect for human life. He is primarily a utilitarian but he acknowledges that virtue ethics have a place in the ninja world. Kim's conscience, however, is not obvious based on the way he acts. The genin does have a fierce temper that is cold as opposed to hot.
Kim Chang-Min enjoys studying mathematics and the applied sciences and coming up with new and interesting ways to apply them. In short, he is a personable young fellow who is honorable, smart, and possessed a below-room temperature temper.
