Clan History/Description:
Like the modern day “Inazuma” clan of Kumogakure, the present day “Tenkishin” clan can also trace its ancestry back to the times of the Sage (i.e. 1000 years before present day). More specifically, both of these clans had originated from a rather obscure and nomadic tribe that existed during these times with a physician-scientist couple at its helm. Of this couple, the man was known as “Stein” and the woman as “Otohime”. Their lot in life and that of their people, aka this nomadic tribe, had not been an easy one since it had been filled with misfortune at every turn. So, in an attempt to remedy this ongoing situation, “Stein” and “Otohime” had sent their first-born, a son named “Marobi”, to visit the Sage. After arrival, “Marobi” had made his people’s wish known to the Sage, and that was for the power to confront and overcome the series of misfortunes that had been plaguing them. Naturally, the Sage had been amused by their request for power, but nevertheless, had granted their wish in the form of knowledge concerning an ancient “Ninshū” ritual. “Marobi” had then returned to his people with this knowledge and performed it on the entire tribe, including himself and his parents, “Stein” and “Otohime” too.
This ritual granted each member of the tribe the power to wield the elemental forces of Water and Lightning in their basic form and also to manifest a fused form of these two elements. Over the next several years, the entire tribe had experimented with their newfound powers. Eventually, they had found that this new fused element allowed them to not only manifest the elemental chakra in the form of destructive ranged beam attacks but also as more localized masses of thunderclouds. Their mastery of these elemental arts had, in turn, given them the power to surmount the challenges that they had been facing due to their misfortunes. Thus, for a long time, the entire tribe had managed to live their nomadic lives in relative peace. Several more years had passed after this and in due course, the Sage had passed away and his Disciples had begun to carry on his work to spread the teachings of “Ninshū” throughout the world. By this time, “Marobi”, the firstborn of “Stein” and “Otohime”, had become a young man and had then left the tribe along with about half of the tribe in tow in order to track down one particular Disciple, a man known far and wide as the “Lightning Disciple Raiun”. The objective, of course, was to show their gratitude by serving under and learning from “Raiun” for the rest of his life.
In this manner, time had marched on once more and eventually, “Raiun” had passed away as well. After the passing of his mentor, “Marobi” had then gone on to raise a family of his own and over time, via intermingling with the half of his tribe that had come with him, this family eventually grew to become the earliest version of the modern day “Inazuma” clan. Eventually, this “Inazuma” clan would join forces with a handful of other clans in the “Land of Lightning” to found the beginnings of the modern day Kumogakure. Here, the histories of the two halves of the tribe diverge significantly as the remaining half which still remained under the leadership of “Stein” and “Otohime” had followed a far different path than the half that had left to travel with “Marobi”. However, to discuss this adequately, the clock must be rewound to the times when “Raiun”, the Sage’s “Lightning Disciple” had still been very much alive. The story goes that, once again, misfortune had befallen the tribe after the departure of “Marobi”.
Once again, as before, “Stein” and “Otohime” had sent their child to seek a solution in the form of even greater power. The difference was that, this time, the child was their second born, a girl named “Sakuya” and the one she had visited was not the Sage, but rather “Raiun”, the Sage’s “Lightning Disciple”. Like his predecessor before him, “Raiun” had also been thoroughly amused by the request, but regardless, had taken pity on the girl and her people which had moved him to grant her request. Also like his predecessor, he had granted this gift in the form of knowledge about another ancient “Ninshū” ritual. “Sakuya” had then brought it back to her people just as her elder brother, “Marobi”, had done before her in the past. Then, like him, she had performed it on the entire tribe including herself and her parents, “Stein” and “Otohime” in order to grant them all the powers inherent to the ritual. This ritual had been an updated and modified version of the one that had originally been granted to the tribe by the Sage so long ago and the difference was that this one added a third element, namely Wind, to the Water and Lightning that they already had by then.
Since they had been armed with this new power over the Wind element along with the Water and Lightning as well the fusion of the two, aka the Storm element, the tribe was able to overcome their adversity and in so doing, had once again achieved peace for some time. In this manner, time had marched on once more for this remaining half of the tribe and their leaders as well and eventually “Stein” and “Otohime” had grown old and finally met their demise after having lived full lives. In the era that came afterward, the world had slowly but surely started to make the inevitable paradigm shift from the peaceful teachings of “Ninshū” towards a time of bloody warfare and terrible, incessant conflict between the now empowered lands throughout the world due to the development of new and powerful ninja arts of all kinds. Needless to say, since the tribe had wanted no part of it, “Sakuya” who had become a young woman by then and inherited the position of next tribal chieftain ensured to institute a policy of strict, but peaceful isolationism for the tribe to follow going forward. Thanks to this, the tribe was able to remain at peace while going about their nomadic lifestyle in the Land of Lightning which had been their home since time immemorial.
Alas, eventually, they were forced to abandon their pacifism and their isolationism since, even though they had made sure to keep out of the bloodthirsty affairs of the rest of the world, the world and especially the warlords in the Land of Lightning did not show them the same courtesy. In fact, the tribespeople had been regularly forced to serve under the warlords in battle and thus these tribe members ended up being killed in action every time, causing great anguish to those who were left behind by their dearly departed. Throughout her life, “Sakuya” had tried to do her best to minimize this, but eventually she too actually suffered the same fate of death in battle. This sordid situation had then continued for several more decades until the start of the reign of the great-grandparents of the current clan leader, “Faustein Tenkishin”. By this time, the tribe and his great-grandparents had felt that they had suffered long enough and thus, had set themselves the task of searching for a permanent solution to this problem. Their search after many fruitless attempts and a great deal of anguish, had led them finally to the ancient abode of the Sage. There, they had found a certain mysterious radiant mineral deposit and after mining it, brought it back to their people.
After bringing back enough of the mineral deposit to give to each member of the tribe, “Faustein’s” great-grandparents along with the rest of the tribe had ground the mineral down into a fine powder and concocted an alchemical potion out of it through their knowledge of Medical Ninjutsu and Chemistry. Then, all of them had imbibed this potion and had gone to rest, with the hope that in the morning, something would change for the better in them and hopefully give them the power to resist the oppression they had been suffering all this while from the rest of the world and especially the cruel warlords in the Land of Lightning. Fortunately, it seemed that luck was indeed on their side for when they arose the next morning, each member of the tribe had found that a completely new power had taken root inside them, namely in the form of an evolution of their fused element of Storm composed of simply Water and Lightning, to one that allowed them even greater power over clouds and cloud-like phenomena.
In addition to this, they had also gained a special brand of ocular ability which allowed their eyes to physically see even the most minute of weather pattern changes in their immediate environment as well as generate clouds by sight alone and a special enhancement of their bodies as well which afforded them several unique abilities such as an immunity to poisons, the ability to passively heal themselves, resistance to certain elements including their own cloud themed one, and so on. Enthralled by these new powers as they were, every member of the tribe with their leaders, aka “Faustein’s” great-grandparents, at their helm had undertaken a period of research into and experimentation with their new powers. Eventually after several decades of such study, they had managed to refine their powers and even created a slew of secret jutsu that took advantage of and were powered by these new abilities. Interestingly enough, they had found that over the course of their study and experimentation, they had been able to manifest a crystallization of their new powers in the form of an oblong strange-looking stone which was embedded in the centers of their respective chest regions.
It seemed that doing so had actually helped the tribespeople stabilize their new powers and jutsu, leading to more control over them. Once that had been completed, the remaining half of the tribe led by “Faustein’s” great-grandparents had finally managed to use this new power to throw off the yoke of oppression which they had been suffering under for the past several decades and even centuries. To celebrate their new victory, the tribespeople had decided to christen themselves with the name “Tenkishin” meaning “Weather God” and thus turned their group into a formal clan. After that, they had gone on to label their dōjutsu as “Tenkishingan” or “Weather God’s Eye” and their body enhancement as “Weather God’s Body”. Lastly, they had decided to call their fusion of Water, Wind, and Lightning as “Kumoton” or “Cloud Release” as it focused almost exclusively on clouds and cloud related phenomena and took away their power to wield their former element of Storm Release and its beam emissions while retaining its ability to create thunderclouds. However, that was not enough since the threat of another set of oppressive warlords was always possible. Therefore, to put an end once and for all to any future suffering, “Faustein’s” great-grandparents had decided that the best course of action was to align themselves with the newly formed Kumogakure. This was because it was to be the ninja village in the Land of Lightning.
To that end, they had started negotiations with the early leadership of the village and succeeded in securing themselves and their new clan, the “Tenkishin”, a place in Kumogakure society. Since then till present day, the members of the “Tenkishin” clan have been serving Kumogakure faithfully as strategists, medics, weather reporters, and as frontline shinobi as well. Thus, in the present day, the “Tenkishin” clan enjoys almost as much renown as the founding clans of the village such as the Inazuma who are essentially their cousins or even the Chinoike. Only time will tell what fate lies in store for the members of the “Tenkishin” clan and their current leader, “Faustein Tenkishin”, but it will undoubtedly be an intriguing story.
Clan/Bloodline Traits & Characteristics:
The members of the “Tenkishin” clan run the gamut in terms of appearances and personalities. However, despite this plethora of differences, there are still certain similarities which bind them together as a clan. These are as follows:
Bloodline Appearance:
Obviously, the fact that they all possess and can use the bloodline is one of the things that binds them together. Furthermore, despite whatever their eyes look like without their dōjutsu is inactive, when it is activated, it takes on the following appearance in every clan member:
The clouds in the image above are seen to be in constant motion and the lightning bolts shown bounce around slowly while the clan jutsu is not being used, but with ever greater speeds when they are in use. The thunderclouds shown also display brief, bright flashes of electric blue lightning when the dōjutsu is in use. Overall, the eyes gain an eerie electric blue, sparking glow to them which may unnerve some of the more faint-hearted beholders, especially when viewed in a dark room.
Apart from this, because of the powerful charge of electricity that is coursing through them due to the Lightning/Raiton part of their “Cloud Release/Kumoton”, their hair stands on end and looks ultra-spiky whenever they are using their bloodline as follows:
Furthermore, the vicinity around them experiences a sharp and sustained spike in humidity level to a somewhat uncomfortable degree for as long as they are using their unique Cloud Release chakra. Lastly, what seems to be wisps of fog can be seen to swirl around them constantly whilst their bloodline is in use.
Lastly, right from birth and throughout the rest of their lives until death, each of the clan members has a nonliving, gemstone core hidden in the center of the chest regions of the completely organic, living, flesh and blood bodies of the bloodline bearers, specifically next to their hearts and between and behind their lungs. This gemstone is oblong in shape and bluish-green in color with the appearance of somewhat white bluish tentacles inside it. It is equal in size and weight to a standard, large-size chicken egg (i.e. 55 mm in length/height, 43 mm in diameter/width, and 49 g in mass/weight).
This stone is intimately and inextricably connected to the bearers’ chakra networks and governs their usage of and access to their bloodline powers. Hence, it is ultimately tied to the its bearer's life force and affecting one would affect the other in some manner.
Ideology/Personality:
Due to their bloodline trait which allows them power to manifest, shape, move, and generally bend to their will clouds of various kinds at will and since the mineral deposit that had transformed their genomes to grant them this ability in the first place, every member of the “Tenkishin” practices sky veneration. Thus, while they are normally placid and laid-back individuals who like to go with the flow like the clouds that constitute their jutsu and bloodline trait, they tend to become quite irritated if anyone were to insult any element of the sky whether it be clouds or anything else. At best, this would earn the offender a death glare with narrowed, eerily glowing eyes and at worst, it may even provoke the normally peaceful “Tenkishin” clan members to physical violence which can quickly turn the situation sour unless the offender recants their statement or unless the situation preclude it for some reason. Interestingly enough, however, they have ABSOLUTELY NO qualms about making such wisecracks, puns, and complaints themselves, a fact which outsiders may find hypocritical to whatever degree.
Besides this commonality, the other similarity in psyche that all clan members share is their love for ever greater degrees of knowledge and their intense love for the pursuit of said knowledge. In fact, this is so great that the children of the clan are made to undergo rigorous instruction in many other skills besides just the standard ninja arts and thus, usually possess at least ONE non-combat skill among the ones in their repertoire as they progress through their careers. They also ensure that their children have thorough knowledge of meteorology and other related subjects as well as fairly advanced scientific and mathematical knowledge. Of course, since the clan is part of the upper socioeconomic strata in Kumogakure, the children of the clan are also taught from childhood about the various aspects of high society life. Lastly, the children are usually held back after graduation if that is what it takes for the child to master all of these areas of expertise before they are even allowed to go receive their Kumo headband and starter packages.
Modus Operandi:
Generally speaking, as a direct result of their placid and laid-back nature, the members of the “Tenkishin” clan hate to be in the spotlight and usually prefer to avoid it unless absolutely necessary. Therefore, ever since they had first joined Kumogakure, their preference for their shinobi work has mainly tended toward being weather readers and reporters working for the Raikage's Office, espionage, assassination, and other such jobs where stealth is of paramount importance. They always ensure that they leave as little trace of their existence or passage through any environment as far as is humanly possible and are fairly reticent about themselves unless they have absolutely no choice.
