Yoru hummed as he looked at the materials on his bill. Shrine Maiden had been a great first puppet, but this next one was probably going to be the most expensive one he'd ever made. He had returned to the same merchant as before, much to the shop owners chagrin. Puppet-users always brought big business, especially with how they tended to buy most of their materials in bulk. After thinking for a short while longer, Yoru would sign the bill and slide it across the counter to the store owner. "Very good sir, I promise you won't be disappointed with your purchase!" He said excitedly, brimming with energy as he motioned for his employees to start loading all the selected materials into the horse-drawn cart that the shinobi had traveled in. The high cost was worth it in the long run, or so Yoru believed. He had big plans for this next puppet, and he was determined to see them come to fruition spectacularly. He left the shop and hopped onto his cart, nodding to the grinning shop owner and his employees. Over 100k Ryo spent in a single purchase, gods, he had to do well in these Exams, only the salary of a Chunin would be able to keep up with the growing complexity of his puppets!
Upon returning home to the Uzumaki Compound, Yoru would drive his cart through the newly-created streets, ignoring the wary gazes that he got from members of his clan. His relationship with them was tense, certainly with his parents, but he had no choice about his current situation. He was building more complex puppets and, at the end of the day, wouldn't be able to fit them all in a single apartment or one-room 'workshop'. He needed space, and that meant being the not-so-prodigal child coming home to his clan. Upon reaching his home, Yoru would hitch his horse before taking the rest of the materials out of the cart. He'd work then on getting them inside his workshop. Once he had done so, he could truly begin his work...
Yoru would start by taking the 3x15 logs of wood and placing them alongside one another until they had created a section of 12x15 wood. He'd bind them together next with binding agent, reinforcing their durability and constitution. Next, Yoru would take the piping he'd purchased and start embedding it into the wooden section, creating smaller branching pipes that moved away from the center before jutting upwards. He'd flip the section over before doing the same thing on the bottom half. With both sides seemingly mirroring one another, Yoru would grab slabs of steel and begin smelting them in a furance, superheating them so that he could mold them to the section. After they cooled, he'd attach each metal armoring to the top and bottom sides of the section, the small holes lining up perfectly with the piping. Yoru would install some igniters near the exit points of the holes, watching the small flame spark for a second before becoming dark once more.... That was one section done, now he had to do 6 more.
The work was hard, gruelling, and miserable, but by the time he had finished, 7 vertebrae like sections had been created, spanning 105 feet in length and kept aligned by a series of piping and durable wires. Already sweating a storm and covered in grease, Yoru began the monotonous task of attaching the many steel-tipped legs that he had crafted. Once that had been done, and once the tail and head had been finalized, kabuki mask and all, Yoru reached the most dangerous stage of the building process. Carefully, the teen began filling the holding tank within the emerging puppet with petroleum oil, taking care to make sure none of the lighters went off accidentally. With this done, Yoru would isntall a number of senbon into the holding tank, dousing them in the petroleum. Finally, with this internal mechanism and chemical mixture bound to the puppet's piping and structure, Yoru would create his piece-de-reistance: taping down a hidden Explosion Tag to each section, top and bottom, that faced outwards from the puppet's body.
It was midnight by the time he had finished. "I know you can hear me Okumade, you miserly old man. Now, get up, or I'll kill you where you stand." Yoru grunted, exhausted and frustrated. He sent out chakra strings, prompting the puppet to at last whiz to life. The giant centipede puppet reared up onto its hind sections, its steel pincers and innumerable steel-tipped legs gesticulating excitedly. Yoru grinned from ear to ear, he had made a monster today. He was burning with pride. The teen twitched his finger, watching a spray of napalm launch from one of the holes in the creature's back at a target area, followed by a napalm-noated senbon from its mouth. PErfect, it was working perfect.
