Crafting Expertise: +1 rank accessible, +50% material cost for outside scope crafting
Stat Trade: Eye of the Perpetually Scrutinising Tengu
None becomes a master craftsman without a keen eye to spot microscopic flaws within the crafts, constructions and defences of other works. Along with a cunning mind, it is the master's way to drive all other merchants out of business. Unfortunately, that impeccable perfectionist's bird eye requires intense focus and more often than not makes Tengu sluggish to react during their overzealous eyeing. Gain Perception (+++) but lose Speed (- - -).
Limit Break:
Destiny [3 points]: Inexplicably survive and negate any damage inflicted in the previous round of combat.
Appearance:
Ashen white hair frames her chiselled face, the pointy ears and crimson red horns betraying her inhumane nature. The light marble-coloured face looks firm and youthful, with deeply sunken ocean green eyes revealing a glimpse of cunning and trickery. Red accentuations right under her eyes and a favouring of red to colour her lips serve as a warning to others she is not shy of a fight; a war-inspired habit which is often misinterpreted by humans as her putting on some make-up to look pretty. All in all, despite the obvious inhumane appearance, the Tengu Yokai is considered to be an alien beauty.
Beneath that attention-drawing face of hers, the true atrocities of the yokai's physique are generally hidden under clothes. Like many Tengu of the Yokai clan, she pretty much looks like an emaciated bone willow. She boasts a lean figure, willowy in form and light in weight to a point where many claim a single gust of wind would blow her away like a leaf. She has nothing to complain about her feminine form, though doesn't sport anything extraordinary in shape either. But what remains hidden from sight under layers of clothes are the purple and black outlines of where her veins run, visible underneath the surface of her paper-thin skin like some sort of corruption tainting her health from the inside. First impressions tend to invoke a mixture of worry for a seemingly underfed youngster and aversion for an equally alien, if not monstrous, anatomy.
Luckily, few people need to deal with this sort of experience as Hua Li generally keeps her body covered by clothes. Her hair is on the shorter side, reaching about an inch away from her shoulders and often wears ribbons and jewellery to decorate her horns in a testament of pride. Her torso is most commonly covered by a sleeveless top (sturdy cloth or leather) which allows flexible combat and room for movement while protecting most of her torso's vitals against the hazards that come with her job. Her legs commonly disappear within a pair of loose pants of sturdy cloth or leather make, with her feet being covered by the shinobi's standard combat sandals. All in all, she thus dresses light and comfortable; a mixture of fashionably acceptable and combat ready.
History:
What is there to say about a demon and her forge? That she's noisy? Working hard? A pain in the ass? Probably so. Ever since this yokai could lift a hammer, it has tasted iron. If not to hammer a blade into shape, then to knock some nails into place. Wood onto wood. Climbing gear onto rocks. Bandit brains into ground. It matters not. To Hua Li, anything can be solved with a hammer. And what can't be solved by it, simply means you're not hitting hard enough. But that being said, the yokai would not have ended up as a shinobi if all she did was hammer away the day. No, Hua Li has more brains than brawn. She makes plans about the hammer. How to make it, where to use it, when to apply it. She doesn't stick to that one smoked up place called the smithy. She travels around, learns about the environment and proceeds to hammer it into a shape according to said plan. It's how the clients like it. A bolt here, a trap there, a couple of alarm system everywhere.
It is how this demon earned her name. The Demon Smith of Kumogakure.
At first, the shinobi thought none of it. Until that one fateful day where her hammer knocked loose a few teeth and made short work of a prying thief in the night. It was a coincidental observation which lead to the next step within the shinobi web - recruitment. A thirteen year old Hua Li was requested a demonstration of her skills; an astonishing art betraying a lot of potential. Many had thought that she'd be helpless when her hammer was taken away. They were wrong. The yokai had never worked on sheer power in her life. She used guile and cunning. A newly crafted naginata nearby was her answer to the theft of her favoured weapon, forcing her shinobi agent into a corner. When he ultimately snapped the solid weapon in two and believed himself done with the deal, she dropped the bottom shaft and grabbed a rope. One knot later, the naginata head continued to haunt the shinobi, and while it wasn't as efficient as a kusarigama would have been, it did reveal one crucial detail about this lass - she'd hammer the nail that stuck out or die trying.
From then on out, Hua Li was trained in the arts of Bukijutsu to hone her natural talent and was shown that there were other uses to architectural plans and schematics if one added a bit of chakra and symbols to it. Now with newfound abilities, one has to remain cautious of what this yokai will end up doing.
Personality:
Like many Yokai of her kind, Hua Li is first and foremost a crafty creature, eschewing strength in favour of cunning and strategy. She is an opportunist by nature, who prefers to use the guise of 'being humane' as a means to lure unassuming people closer before she preys upon them with the apathy of a true demon. All in all, this is rather inoffensive when it comes to conducting business as Hua Li is merely seeking to sell her wares while driving others out of business - nothing different from your typical merchant. But when it comes to combat, it is a total different matter. Unscrupulous and brutal, those who corner the Tengu will soon realise that beneath the surface of her cute face the all-devouring hunger inherent to her true yokai nature lurks patiently.
She is a industrious and ambitious young lass. She cares little for morals if it means achieving her goals, yet limits herself to a certain standard. While options such as slavery, human trafficking and other highly amoral or heartless acts of the sort are not even taken into consideration, she feels little remorse in abusing the good of others or pushing them to their limits. In many ways, one could say she does so on purpose, as the oni's natural instinct is one of respecting hard work and strength above the good of the heart. And once such strength has been proven and respect has been earned, Hua Li tends to honour these (newly) set limitations.
Hua Li also bears a spirit of vehemence and vengeance, but that darker side is generally suppressed by a seemingly inextinguishable optimism. Even when angry she somehow succeeds keeping up a smile as her blazing fury slips through her teeth like the tongue of an adder - the fires of the demon burn brightly in her heart despite her brilliance; the malefic toothed grin of the oni. That being said, the girl is not all about appearances. The fires of her heart do not solely serve to lash out towards fools, they also carry a lavish warmth for those she would call friends.

- Spoiler:
Building up a reputation had its drawbacks. Mizuki's fame yet didn't stretch far. The yamabushi of the Valley of Mountains was a solitary woman that disliked roaming bandits, but to the local bandits she had become an omen of ill luck. They saw her as an akuma in disguise, her skill with the blade far beyond anything they had seen. To cross her while they were going on about with their unsavoury business resulted in a failure they would not soon forget. Most of their lives were spared, but the bandits didn't see it this way. To them, the akuma was keeping them alive so it could torment them further with failure.
But the bandits were learning to avoid the kunoichi. More and more often, lookouts and guard dogs were being used to alarm them when someone was nearing. More and more often they left in time when she arrived, their victims still somewhat spared as the bandits scurried away in fear. To make matters worse, the bandits grew bolder as the days passed. They trained their skill, recruited new members and started to scout and map the Valley beyond their general turf. Though finding Mizuki would not be that easy, she understood that it would not take too long before she would have to slay the first of many that would discover her remote little paradise. As unfortunate as it could be, she would be obliged to strike first by proactively hunting the bandits.
But the land here was vast, and the bandits scattered. Even if she could catch small groups off guard, she would not be able to take down all of them in an efficient way. And unlike the organised crime in the slums, these small gangs had no headquarters. They were down-trodden people looking to cope with their needs, springing up like mushrooms in false belief life would be easier this way. Their dark dreams usually scattered even before they had to mug a person as guilt crept in their hearts, or at the moment trained forces opposed them. It made Mizuki wonder if there was a single Village even remotely free of corruption and poverty. A hidden Village full of shinobi with one goal and direction. Did such a thing exist?
Answers would likely not come, but downright slaying all criminals felt like to harsh an execution for something that could be changed. Was it advised to meet with the Tsuchikage to debate such things after the Raikage's antics with his raiton spear? This was a task for the forces of Iwagakure rather than that of an outsider but Mizuki always had a hard time denying those in need of help. The travellers here needed protection. The criminals needed to be shown the proper way. Maybe Iwagakure was in need of assistance, how unlikely that had seemed to be the case the first time she entered here.
Mizuki sighed. No. She shouldn't be helping them out. Not only would it potentially blow the cover of her peaceful life but she had not come to reconciliation with her past just yet. The last thing she needed was meddling in shinobi affairs when everything about that world had thrown her world upside down. She couldn't blame the shinobi for trying to preserve her mother's life, but something deep inside urged her to do it despite. Her father's death was on her hands, but all of that laid with the origins of their responsibilities and traditions imposed by her own clan and some deluded ronin lineage that had succeeded at persevering despite the shinobi training. No, she was not to blame someone else for this. The only one to be blamed was herself. For not being strong enough to deny her father. For not having chosen her own road. For chasing her own dreams too hard.
...
She could name a thousand reasons. Blaming would not undo what had happened. Mizuki watched the horizon, her father's last words ringing in her mind. "Eyes on the horizon, hands resting on the blade, and heart reaching for the Storms". He had repeated those words a thousand times throughout his life. Every time Mizuki had nodded, believing she had understood what they meant. But did she really? It often felt her sister understood the words better than she did. Resting her hand on the pommel of her katana, eyes fixated to the distance that would never come, one question remained. What did her heart truly long for in this inner turmoil?
