It was late in the evening a few days after he had woken up in the hospital. Calin still looked a bit frailer than he used to. His sense of balance was a little strange and his reflexes were nothing compared to what they had been because of his lack of constant training. He had accepted a simple C rank mission that involved catching a few delinquents that were tagging up a part of the village. He had a partner, but he wasn’t certain who, however he was nervous. He didn’t want his temporary weakness to get outside of the clan. If this mission went wrong, it could look back for the Kaguya. Not many would think about him being the first plague survivor in, well, ever. He might find it difficult to save face, even with his diplomatic skills. It was a fear he had since he got out of the hospital. Since then he’d thrown himself into his training, pushing himself until his body simply couldn’t move anymore. He knew it was dangerous, especially after so long in a coma. However he just couldn’t help it, he’d gotten behind, he’d had to of. It was an infuriating thought, he’d worked so hard to make real progress, and he’d done so well, even in his highly critical eyes. To come within grasping distance of his peers. Then suddenly it was taken away from him. He felt weak, inadequate, even helpless. It was something that the male Kaguya wouldn’t tolerate. So he’d trained, day and night. During the day there were a few people willing to train with him, but never for very long. They wanted to respect his need for rest. During the night however, he’d train alone. Never in reflex training though, you couldn’t train reflexes alone. It ingrained your mistakes when you had no one to iron them out. Normal training though? Practicing the fluidity of his techniques, the potency of them, his speed, strength, and coordination? That was still on the docket. So he’d done so relentlessly. So far as he knew, no one knew of the night time training. He’d done it in his own homes backyard, which granted, was only about as secure as anyone else’s. But it wasn’t a public training ground or even a training ground within the Kaguya compound. It was, well, it was just his damn backyard.
He’d left the hospital a few days past, he’d woken up, and been let out soon after. He’d remembered taking Tsubaki’s hand in his own right before going to sleep the night before, and being content. He hadn’t seen her since, which he supposed wasn’t surprising. She was the clan head, the Queen of the Kaguya. She was busy as hell, and he needed to respect that. What he wouldn’t give to see her again though, to hug her tight while he was standing and not bedridden. He needed to work hard to catch up to her. He couldn’t be worthy of her if he couldn’t stand on even ground with her. Which was something he desperately wanted to be able to say. It was something he wanted her to be able to say as well. He wanted her to be proud of him, not just wanted it, but craved it. To him, service to his clan and Queen was everything. However it went beyond that. He cared for Tsubaki, and he couldn’t stand the idea of her being disappointed in him for any reason. He knew it was irrational, that she wouldn’t feel that way given what had happened. However the very thought itself was enough to strike the spark of fear. The flame of insecurity. She could have any Kaguya she wanted, and she had chosen him. So far as he could tell, he was a bit dense when it came to women. He had to worthy of that.
He’d let his thoughts wander off, his partner would be arriving soon and needed to at least appear to be a competent shinobi who was in no way, shape, or form, crippled from a lack of training for 6 months because of a coma. He took a deep breath and leapt up to the lowest tier of a buildings two tiered roof. He’d proceed to learn on the wall that led up to the second tier and begin scanning the area, looking from shop to shop, checking the alleyways that he could see for any signs of vandalism. They were being sent to handle some vandals and ‘talk to them’ about never doing it again. To be honest, it shouldn’t be hard to instill the fear of god in them. Or in their cases, the wrath of the Kaguya. Kirigakure was their home after all, and they didn’t take kindly to anyone vandalizing it.
