Innocence and Koharu's Apartment Empty Innocence and Koharu's Apartment

Post by Innocence Uchiha Wed Apr 03, 2024 9:18 pm

Innocence didn't want to live at home. There were too many memories there. Some good and some bad, but nearly all involving her deceased father. Mercedes would never leave. It'd break their mother and while she always came off as the more independent one, she was the new "woman-of-the house" after her father's death. The matters of his estate were her's to settle and that meant holding down the fort until their mother had recovered and was ready to retire in peace. Innocence, meanwhile, as the youngest was told to go out and make her father's sacrifice worthwhile. She knew she couldn't do that with reminders of her "old" life everywhere.

And so our young heroine decided to get an apartment in the cheap side of town. The genin's shifts at the hospital did not pay well enough for her to get her own spot and so she got a roommate. The young man's name was Koharu Kotoshura and he was apparently quite the artist. That was all well and good as it meant Innocence wouldn't have to worry about her insecurities arising. He wasn't in the medical field so there was no competitive overlap between them. They had gotten along well-enough so far but Innocence worried it was only a matter of time until they butted heads. She had been sitting in a recliner reading a medical manual when she felt the apartment building shake. The lights flickered and soon another tremor reverberated across the room.

    What the hell?!

A roar sounded across the village and then sirens began blaring. The TV buzzed on and a reporter spoke calmly but firmly to the masses.

"This is a breaking news report. Konohagakure is under attack by the Seven Tailed Kabutomushi. The elite forces of the Konoha military are currently battling the Beast....."

The reporter went on to warn civilians to seek shelter while shinobi should standby for further orders from the High Command. Innocence threw her book to the side and fell to her knees in front of the TV.

"Holy thhit! Koharu come quick! We're under attack by a Bijuu!"

Ah. Painting. Nothing relaxed Koharu quite like it. A steady plume of smoke rose up from the table beside him. The sweet scent of pine filled the room. The smoke burned his nostrils somewhat. Painting outdoors was relaxing, but Kaharu didn't like the spectacle. People would often stop to glance his way. While he was proud of his work, he was also a bit self conscious. So instead, he would vividly memorize a particular scene, and then slowly get into a meditative mind set where he could recreate the image.

In this case, Koharu was working on a bit of forest, with a fallen tree, where the light burst through the trees in an oddly sentimental way.

It was nearly perfect. Until the apartment began to rumble. A tiny candle that was a little too close to the edge of the table fell onto the fool. His steady hand, which was forming a delicate black line, was thrown several centimeters off.

He could hear his roommate hollering in the other room.

After growing up in an entirely different land, it felt a bit strange to train and live in Konoha. He was often a bit confused about customs and other things like that. It seemed practical to have a roommate who grew up here. Well, and his parents sort of kicked him out, but he kept that to himself. Of course, he had many options. He ended up living with the young Uchiha by pure chance.

Taking a deep breath, Koharu set his paintbrush on the edge of the wooden easel. They were under attack by a what? That instantly made him tense up. He stood up, straight as a light post, then walked across the room like his legs didn't have knees.

Stepping out, he did not take things the least bit seriously. Innocence seemed very shocked, and he found it baffling.

"Wait... wait... hold up. What's going on?"He asked. Somehow, the tv was also not a subject of his concern.

Innocence turned to see her roommate enter the living room. Koharu was almost certainly painting. Ordinarily she'd give him the space and quiet he needed to express himself, but this wasn't the time for such niceties. She pointed to the TV and shouted:

"That theven wing or tailed bug Bijuu thing ith attacking Konoha! the Kage are fighting it and a bunth of other Jounin!"

Innocence turned her attention back to the TV. It looked like the Bijuu had just killed someone in a particularly brutal fashion. She looked away from the carnage and destruction. She could witness amputations and open heart surgery but this was something totally different. This was destruction on a village-wide scale and all they could do is huddle in their cramped apartment watching it all unfold. If they were lucky they'd be instruct to begin assisting with evacuation efforts. Innocence balled her hands into fists. She wish she could fight. She wish she could protect her village from the monstrosity. Her own father had died fighting a Bijuu-like monster. The only difference was that the entity he fought was a machine-based construction rather than flesh and chakra.

We used to think Dad was such a wimp....and he fought something bigger than that? He was stronger than we knew. He always was. Innocence thought bitterly.

Another blast was set off. It rumbled and shook their room as the battle continued to unfold.

Innocence watched as the battle against the Chomei continued to rage on. Every instinct in her body told her to stay where she was or even flee to the shelters with the other civilians. She had no business being in a fight against a Bijuu. And yet, she felt compelled to help. Somehow, someway she wanted to assist the high level shinobi in taking down the beast or at least helping mitigate its damage. Innocence shook her head.

Absolutely not! This is crazy! Look at the size of that thing!

But it didn't stop her father from fighting such a beast. It didn't matter that he was a Kage, he would have done it even when he was a nobody Jounin or maybe even as a Chuunin. But as a genin? Innocence wasn't sure. She watched as buildings crumpled under the weight of the beast's violence. Innocence swallowed as she imagined the dozens of dead and dying. She couldn't fight this creature but if she could save at least one person. If she could get at least one human being to safety then she'd have proven herself worthy of her father's legacy. One person and then I'm out. Just one person.

Innocence suddenly stood up and turned to her roommate.

"I'm going!" she suddenly declared in a loud voice. She then rushed out of the apartment before he had a chance to talk her out of it or before she could talk herself out of it.

    [Exit]
