It seemed like easy work, and with things becoming so hectic, Kaikasame personally thought he could use a little easy money. He had distanced himself from the volatile Momochi, realizing that the path the ninja was headed wasn't conducive to survival. It was one thing to be opportunistic to wealth, but he felt Ariza was opportunistic to death. Kaikasame wanted to flourish and see the full extent of what he would be capable of in the future. For now, he took on a mission to guard the gate.
The travel there was short, as he took the side-roads rather than the main streets. He did this to avoid the crowd of people moving throughout the city, but more importantly to cut his travel time in short by moving through the diagonal stretch of alleyways that hotshot him there. As he neared the gate, he could feel the breeze thicken a little bit as it breathed the cool, moist air against his skin. In the distance, he saw the structure and gargantuan doors that led to the exterior of the village. There were two men stationed there, one atop the wall and the other at the bottom.
"What's your business on the outside?"
The question was short and without much pleasantries involved. The guards had been walking around the clock and they had lost whatever social skills they had. He understood and nodded, a toothy grin exposed as his beady eyes took in the visage of the tired ninja. He reached into his satchel and produced a miniature scroll that had the details of their relief.
"I'm your replacements. You're on leave for twenty-four hours,"
The Hoshigaki notified verbally in addition to the message.
The two ninja lit up understandably as they thanked the Hoshigaki and ran off. It didn't take any time at all for them to do their final procedures before they were departing from the gate. The Hoshigaki scaled the wall and stood atop of it for a moment; peering through the Mist which encompassed the entire land around them.
He hadn't spent much time outside these walls as of yet, but even still he had dove into the underworld of the village quite a few times. His gaze was heavy with the thoughts of what was out there. He wanted more than what he had, and he wanted to do more than he had done so far. These missions were simply stepping stones for every ninja before they were assigned to a higher-tier of work. It was work that would take him out of the village so that he could delve into what was out there. He let out a sigh and kept on the lookout.
Throughout his shift, for the most part anyway, it was fairly quiet and uneventful. There were passer-bys going in and out that were merchants, ninja, and more that all needed to provide him paperwork as to the validity of their entrance or departure. There were a few times when he had to turn away travelers who wanted to enter but it seemed pretty standard for all the ninja to be properly authorized to leave and come in.
All in all, uneventful as forementioned. At the end of the shift, there were more guards coming onto the watch who had similar paperwork that the Hoshigaki had initially arrived with. Upon being relieved, Kaikasame would gather what he had there in terms of supplies and food and headed back into the village. He went straight to the designated place to turn in his report and did so to claim his payment for the extra work.
