At first glance, Barlow would appear to just be an average man. Which is exactly how Barlow would like to appear. Slightly above average height at 6 foot even, but not enough to draw any unnecessary attention, and a pretty average body build; Barlow definitely doesn’t look like the type of person who would stand out in a crowd or stay on someone’s mind for any time after leaving their field of vision. His ordinary appearance made him even more valuable as an agent, allowing him to slip into the crowd after completing his mission without people around him being actually aware of him. Barlow’s eyes are black as night, not even worthy of much attention and emotionless as can be. The quick moments of eye contact that tend to occur between people in public are even shorter for Barlow as people tend to glance away from his eyes instantly on to something much more interesting. His raven black hair is usually cut short and held back in a short ponytail in order to keep it out of his eyes. Yet another detail of Barlow that fails to draw attention to him.
Barlow tends to wear a red leather jacket along with an identical pair of red leather pants. The collar of this jacket is high enough to effectively cover the bottom half of Barlow’s face. This outfit is the only part of Barlow’s appearance that is deserving of even a second look but the other details of his looks tend to work in allowing him to remain inconspicuous. Under the cloak, he sports a mesh undershirt with a matching set of mesh shorts. Barlow chooses to wear this because of the mobility he manages to retain while wearing it without actually being nude. Barlow has an abundance of tattoos and scars on his body, which is one of the main reasons he chooses to keep his cloak on at all times. Across his upper back is a black raven tattoo with its wings spreading from shoulder to shoulder. His entire torso is barren of tattoos but is still marked with a long scar stretching from his navel to his ribs.
History:
As a baby, Barlow was very difficult to deal with, and gave his mother an extremely hard time at every opportunity, harder than any of his 3 older siblings. To her it seemed that Barlow was even able to scream louder than any of her other children had been able to. So it makes sense that a child who came into the world exceptionally annoying would grow up into a nuisance would stay that way through childhood, and despite his mothers prayers Barlow grew up to be exactly that. From the moment he was able to both walk and talk, Barlow did so at every opportunity and was a huge inconvenience in the process. The amount of times Barlow's mother thought she had him safely put to bed only to find him stealing or breaking something was higher than she'd seen from any other child, including his older brother who grew up to be a literal thief for hire.
As he grew up, he didn't end up any easier to deal with, and by the time he began attending the academy she was grateful to have a break from having to take care of her troublesome child. Of course, with him spending time in the Academy his mother still had to constantly deal with calls from the Academy's teachers about messes and incidents her son had caused, but that was a much better option than having to deal with him being an issue for her directly. These calls were still a headache though, as they came extremely frequently and occasionally resulted in Barlow's mother having to pay out of pocket in order to repair something (or someone) her son had broken or to replace something that had mysteriously come up missing. When it was almost time for Barlow to leave the Academy, he discovered that he could get extra money by helping other students that were being bullied. These students had Barlow perform a variety of tasks including beating up those bullies and stealing from them and their homes. He was luckily able to avoid getting caught during any of his illegal activities, but word got around the village so that other young ninjas knew that Barlow was not to be messed with and that if they had some extra money he could help them a lot. This reputation followed Barlow even after he left the academy, and even some of the Chunin were wary of Barlow once he became a Genin.
Personality:
Quiet: Barlow is very quiet and seemingly shy. He only really appears shy though he actually has no problem with social interactions. The reason he doesn’t actually talk much is that he just prefers not to. He believes that people that are too loud and draw too much attention onto themselves are trying to hide something by drawing attention towards what they are saying or doing at the exact moment when they are being extremely loud and boisterous. Barlow would much rather let his actions do the talking than speak about things he plans to do eventually. The loudest nigga in the room is the brokest indeed. Sometimes Barlow chooses to communicate through gestures when he just doesn’t feel like talking but still feels like he needs to communicate something.
Secretive: Barlow is uncomfortable letting other people know his true thoughts and feelings. He is more of a presence that operates in the shadows than someone who directly lets his motives be shown. He is willing to work with someone who benefits his cause in order to serve his purpose without being obvious in his intentions. Most of his secrecy and covertness comes as a result of his time as a thief. The more he allows someone to know the more likely he is to be found out.
Observant: In order to be a more effective agent, Barlow was trained to notice even the most insignificant details of his environment. All sights and sounds in his area will be taken into account and stored in his mind. Barlow’s observational skills were his most useful quality while he was in training because no suspicious activity ever managed to escape his his notice. The fact that he has more eyes than humans obviously contributes to his observational skills but he is still observant without even using his third eye.
Intelligent: Barlow is an incredibly smart man. He did a lot of reading throughout his childhood and even more during his time spent learning to be a stronger shinobi. From those books, he gained a lot of knowledge on things from human anatomy to navigation methods. His knowledge on those subjects doesn’t extend nearly as far as it would for an actual doctor or navigator but he at least knows what’s going on around him most of the time. He’s also brilliant as a strategist, able to come up with plans to effectively escape from any sort of situation he’s stuck in.
Indifferent: Barlow is the type of guy that doesn’t really care too much about most anything. He isn’t the type of person to worry about things like the future and as a result, he is able to be calm most of the time. Barlow doesn’t really get stressed out because he doesn’t care about the majority of issues that come up. He doesn’t really care about the issues going on with other people which allows him to stay out of conflict unless he wants to get involved.
