It was not surprising that the 3rd Division of Mockingbird scouts was the most nervous one at the time of their departure. While there might have been no apparent reason for that, it was well known that the second Hokage had been murdered on his way to this land. It was also well known by the organization ad this point that the Society had orquestrated a strike at the Blood Prison and no one was quite sure of where they had gone afterwards- which meant they could still be around there at this point in time.
The fact that the previous ANBU commander had been murdered by the Society was a heavy blow to the men's morale as none of them believed they could stand a chance against such kind of opponents. But Akihiro's orders were absolute and he reassured the men by ordering them to retreat at any sign of conflict. They were there to monitor the Land of Grass for activity, not to fight. This bolstered their confidence.
By the time they arrived at the Land of Grass with no incidents, their morale was even above normal. They had plenty of natural resources, from fresh water to abundance of game for hunting. No to mention the huge variety of vegetables which grew all around the country.
Establishing a network of agents amongst the peasants and people wasn't too difficult, and soon they would know of foreign activity in the land. They would also be looking out for the Land's resource sites.
