    • Coordination: D -> C (UA effect)
    • Intelligence: D
    • Perception: D

    Unique Abilities:

-Coordination Prodigy- (Freebie UA for not having a BL, effectively Big Boost)
Though she lacks the training of some of her peers from ninja clans, Minami's natural raw talent shines brightest when it comes to her balance and grace. Her unassuming appearance and reliance on glasses aside, Minami's just a little ahead of the curve when it comes to her coordination and accuracy. (This UA can not raise her Coordination to S Rank; she must still purchase that for 2 skill increases when the time comes)

    Appearance:

At nine years old, Minami's still a pretty typical child, even if she is in the Academy to become a kunoichi. Standing at 4' 6", the girl's a relatively normal height for her age albeit a little pudgy. Her most distinctive wardrobe pieces are the glasses her mother bought for her the year prior, red frames decorated with a small pattern of flowers along the outside rim of each lens, and her well made if somewhat drab looking "uniform". The sweatpants and sweatshirt were comfortable, resisted the dampness that always seemed to creep about the village, and even had a few hidden pockets sewn into them. Who cared if they weren't as flashy or feminine as what some of the other girls in class like Riku would wear? They were training to be Shinobi, and though she had hopes that she wouldn't turn out quite so plain looking as her family seemed destined to be, Minami could read the cards.

As someone from a mercantile family, Minami hasn't been pushed into the Shinobi life as early as some of her cohorts. She lacks the scars (physically and emotionally) that many of the others possess despite their young ages, her skin still relatively soft and tender even if training has begun to harden the muscle underneath. Yet, careful examination of her hands would reveal a plethora of tiny pockmarks and scratches from mishaps with a sewing needle in her youth, and ninja tools since joining the academy.

    History:

To understand Minami, first one must understand her family. Unlike some of the founding members of Kirigakure who hailed from shinobi clans in the Land of Water, the Kurages were never embroiled that deeply into the hidden world. Artisans by tradition, the clan gained famed in the past for their exquisitely produced kimono and clothing items; in recent years however, with the foundation of the ninja villages and stabilization of Kirigakure in the land of water her grandfather steered the family ship more into mercantile endeavors. The Kurages still deal in textile, mind you, but in addition to the high-end clothing have undertaken more commercial work. The family runs a small yet well oiled shop that produces everything from basic civilian wear to standard ninja uniforms; of course, they still also take custom orders for finery if the coin's good.

Everyone expected Minami, second born in the new generation to the family, to pick up a needle as easily as the rest. Doing so was difficult, however, when your older sister happened to be a wunderkind when it came to fabric. This left Minami to do basic things, like stitch in pockets in sailor pants, when her sister was embroidering robes for the high-class clans of the village. Needless to say, Minami grew restless.

She learned to stay out of sight and out of mind easily enough, especially after the birth of her twin brothers. Though loneliness crept in, Minami found herself oddly grateful at times for being able to watch from a safe distance. She also found herself fond of escaping into the pages of books and scrolls, reading stories or inventing them at her leisure. When she was five, she read a short comic scroll about the eponymous Lady Snowheart; a fierce warrior woman, Minami was smitten with the novelized idea of the kunoichi life.

Her parents resisted the girls pleas to sign up for the Academy, citing it as far too dangerous work for their daughter; after all, she had a future in the shop. What more could she ask for?

No one in her family's quite certain where the stubborn nature she presented came from (except, of course, for her father when he would conclude it was maternal...always out of earshot of her mother though.) Still, Minami persisted. When they shot her down, she'd spend her free time away from the shop watching ninja in the street or tailing some of them. It was only a matter of time before the little girl managed to track down a few basic scrolls to study.

Peace in the Land of Water was never guaranteed after all, and some people seemed to believe that anyone with a will to fight deserved a chance. It was only after an accident involving a senbon and the family's pet dog (who has yet to forgive Minami for throwing a needle into his paw) that her grandparents, exasperated, agreed to her demands to attend the Academy and overruled her parents' earlier decision. If Minami was going to ferret away weaponry, her grandmother figured she might as well be able to use it properly.

    Personality:

A middle child in life, Minami's grown used to being the last thing on most people's minds. Her twin younger brothers take a lot of time and energy for her parents and grandparents to deal with, while her elder sister's craftsmanship continues to garner the family more acclaim than anything. It never left her family much time to deal with the quiet middle girl, outside of realizing how capable she could be at watching the little ones around the shop.

Honestly, Minami's occasionally resented the way her family treats her but also couldn't ask for more out of life really. Left to her own devices as often as she was, the young girl's imagination's been allowed to soar to heights far beyond her family's shop walls. Her unassuming nature and temperament take awhile to break through for new people, but when those walls are down? Another side to Minami roars into view. As much as she folds into the wallflower persona at times to survive the chaos of the family life and business, deep down Minami has eccentricities and passions her family can only accept (begrudgingly) with a sigh.

Her voracious appetite for reading is less of an academic mindset (though make no mistake, the bespectacled girl earns high marks in all her classes) and more her passion for stories. Minami loves nothing more than delving into the goriest parts of fiction and history of the shinobi world to escape the shop, even though she's living a good life with her family. Recreating those tales with her siblings are some of Minami's fondest memories of late. Her prized possession is a Lady Snowheart doll, with ball joint limbs for quick posing and a replica katana! She's lost count of the number of adventures she's taken Lady Snowheart on, truth be told, especially considering most of her other dolls are a little too regal for rough and tumble play; something about collectibles made for viewing and admiring, from what her mother once said. They're pretty, but frankly Minami prefers seeing things in action.

Minami does resent her older sister Ayame slightly, almost always failing to replicate the seamless stitching her sister's famed for and swore off her family's traditional job of tailoring in favor of the kunoichi life. All she really wants is an opportunity to dispense justice and fell her foes like her childhood hero, Lady Snowheart; does it matter she doesn't have foes at the moment?

Not if you ask the bespectacled girl.

    Roleplay Sample:

"And so, Lady Snowheart drove her sword deep into the gut of the wicked samurai lord; he gaped as the lithe woman flicked her wrist, spilling his entrails into a steaming pile infront of him!"

Minami cackled darkly as her younger brothers both cooed in a mixture of horror and awe at the scene she was weaving for them. The look on her mother's face, meanwhile, turned positively sour.

"Young lady, what have I told you about reading at the breakfast table? Who even gave you such garbage?" Setsuna's disapproving look may have been enough to stifle her brothers and sister, but Minami merely grinned, pushing her glasses up further.

"What if I told you it was required reading for class Ma?" She poked her tongue out playfully, causing her mother Setsuna's eyes to roll.

"Why your father ever agreed to allow you to enroll in that Academy, I'll never know."

Minami giggled briefly as she finished scooping the last of her rice and egg into her mouth and darted for the door, pecking her mother briefly on the cheek in passing. It was early morning in Kirigakure, and the merchant district that Minami's family lived in was already bustling. The shinobi of the village were always active, after all. Some families, like the Kurages, benefitted from supplying them with necessities of their way of life; who hadn't found the impeccable stitching of a Kurage sewn uniform comforting? Before she'd ever learned the basics of holding a kunai or senbon, Minami had long learned to manipulate a simple needle in her hands.

She dipped into a courteous bow as she passed by a ramen cart feeding two Chunin who either loved the noodles or lived nearby. The men greeted the pig-tailed girl, wishing her luck on her practical exams. She'd yet to graduate, given her youth, but with every passing class she steeled herself a little harder.

She'd just barely managed to make it to class on time, judging by the approach of her teacher down the opposite side of the hallway. Slipping into the classroom, her bespectacled eyes scanned it briefly before settling on her seat; front left of the room, to see the chalkboard as easily as possible. It had a double bonus as well, when you considered the odds of the teacher ever calling on the forefront of the room compared to the middle of the pack or rear. Some valued a better vantage point, but Minami found herself less prone to daydreaming in the front of the class than the rear.

A small grin crossed her face when she flicked through the notebook, seeing a doodle or two of Lady Snowheart dance across a few pages. She might have been trying to avoid day dreaming, but a girl could doodle from time to time, right?
