Uwaaa~
5 AM. Early even to Kurenai's standards. The sun had yet to rise and throw the first rays of warmth over the land, the world currently cloaked in darkness as the night still held a solid foothold. Kurenai had picked up a mission to help out the fishermen for the day but had not expected them to rise so early. The fisherman's ship she was currently on was well on its way towards a newly discovered fishing spot and floated to a halt once they had reached it. Under the loud rush of moved water, the captain had explained her task and assigned one of his crew to be her patron for the day. She'd be throwing out nets, then help to haul in the catch. Heavy physical work, and not quite the sort she was good in... but the sort she needed if she was to improve her muscle power for bukijutsu.
A moment of quietude broke through as the ship halted and the captain double-checked everything. Assured he had been right in his sailing route, he started to bark orders. The crew moved. Kurenai moved. Together with her patron she'd throw out the first of nets, his guidance a stare of resolution as he imposed his expectations. The first net was out, they moved to the second one. The ship sailed forward at slow pace, nets dragging in passing fish from the deep. Then, the hard work started. A heavy net had to be hauled in, the weight too much for Kurenai's weak arms. The net would slip back into the water, scolding ensuing. As she'd apologise, she'd bite her thumb and whistle sharp, a white weasel seemingly appearing as it materialised from the air.
"Youngin'?"
"I need your strength, Wu. We have to haul in this net of fish but it's beyond me."
"Fish, you say?", its ears perking up at the sound. "I'll take it one of those will be mine?"
"Heh, I'll buy you fish after the job."
"An acceptable offer."
With renewed strength, the net would be hauled in properly this time. Wu's strength far superior to hers, probably rivalling that of the fishermen who went through this routine daily. Together, they'd get through it, Kurenai having to suffer the 'wise remarks' of Wu stating she'd have to do better in training her muscles as 'one day he'd no longer be around' even if he was far from dying of old age.
The day would pass slowly but after hours of fishing and seeing the reserves getting filled up, a feeling of satisfaction would settle once they hit port again and the captain patted her back with a smile of approval. She had worked hard, even if she had to call in some help. And that was what mattered.
